  • turkish and finnish are come from same language family.

their grammer, letter-sound system, supplement system are same, without some exception.

    one letter - one sound

    for example:

    finnish - turkish - english

    min''un'' ben''im'' my

    sin"un" sen"in" your

    ha''nen'' o(n)''un'' his-her-its

  • That was a very good video and it was very helpful. Thanks

  • Finish is One of the Few European Languages that is not Indo-European !

  • Thank you very much! I think this is really great! I met a finnish guy a couple of months ago, we became really good friends and I´d love to learn finnish! Since my mother tongue is serbian, it´s not very hard to pronounce finnish words because we also have 1 letter= 1 sound. The most difficult thing about finnish is that the words sound so unfamiliar to me, so it´s hard to learn them. But I hope I´ll learn it one day :)

  • Thanks this is great!!

  • Thanks for the great lesson. I lived in Finland when I was little and was fluent, but have no chance to use it anymore and as a result, it's gotten very rusty. Great refresher.

  • paljon kiitoksia rakastin sita

  • Thanks man!

  • This is funny when you already know how to spek finnish.

  • I think finnish is very easy to pronunce for a spanish speaking person :). Every time a hear a finnish person speaking i think they could master spanish language too xD especially for the R sound :)

  • Okay, so when I see "r" it is always rolled? Are there words in which the letter "r" is not rolled or rolled less, as in Spanish?

  • Kiitos!!!

  • It's easier, when you're polish becouse we are pronauncing our letters similiar. Of course arr, and this letters with dotts are new for me, but rest of them are similar :D Love finnish language :3

  • I love finnish people, when they speak english. This accent is so sweet ^.^

  • I'm seeing a lot of people saying turkish or hUngarian have similar pronunciations. Is this because they are all Uralic?

  • well, that was very exciting for me to see because eventhough the words are different the pronunciation of the letters and words are like in Turkish, we do also have ö,ü as pronunced in Finnish, i found very easy to prounce the Finnish words mentioed...Great Work

  • more tutorials, please...

  • hattara :3

  • rrrrrrawr !! :3

  • Rrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! see I can.

  • The trilled R is found in Scottish English.

  • "R is the strongest letter in Finnish"

Yeah, it's so nice to be a Finnish person who can't say it right. I feel like an idiot sometimes.

  • @th4970 i cant pronounce my 'r's lol so im screwed basically right ? :)

  • thanks !

  • you say those words sooooo like a finnish person :)) very rough

  • It's my luck that I am hungarian and the pronunciation doesn' t mean a problem. Rather the long-long words:) my tongue hitches

  • It was interesting lesson:-)Finnish is total different grammar-because is Uralic language...You don't use prepositions?Just grammar cases?thanks

  • This was really helpful, but im still confused xD

  • The new "lady" voice on GoogleTranslate is VERY good. She speaks too fast, but she is good.

  • i NOT like in fit....more like feet. Ha Ha, you can always tell a Finn. They cannot say an English short i sound. Try as they might...it always comes out ee. Very cute.

  • omg, so many variations on the word "vowel" coming from this man: vowel, wowel, wovel, and many more! :)

  • Im not sure why you say "wowel" for "vowel" because leter "v" does exsist in Finnish... eg: Keskiviikko ... o.O

  • R - funny and most entertaining ;)

  • this is a very good video!

  • Isn't it sad I don't even know my own language T.T

  • I absolutely love the way you say "tuuli" <3

  • Well word "tervetuloa". The most of Finns pronounce it as "tervettuloa" with double t on the middle of the word. "Tervetuloa" is "welcome". Off course it depends were in Finland you are. To hear the best Finnish language in the country, do not go to Kuopio or Rauma, those towns and areas around them have unique dialects that even every Finns don't understand. "Kat ku kat kara puuhu" "suattaapi mennä"

  • Best accent.

  • Thankyou so much for this little film. I am going to work in Finland for a week and although my workmates aren't bothered about language, I want to be able to communicate with my Finnish work friends. I've been studying alone, but hearing the words spoken, especially the alphabet (which really was a massive help) makes it so much better. I'm glad that I have been pronouncing almost all the letters correctly so far!

  • you read romanian just the same.

  • 1 letter = 1 sound? Nice! Just like in Spanish! =D

  • @Whiteoverblue That's how it should be in all languages :D Croatian is like that too, if I'm not mistaken.

  • Comment removed

  • wowels ;)

  • same as Turkish and Hungarian

  • Y is an unrounded u, but not as compressed as the Japanese u. At least, that's what I've understood from listening to a lot of Finnish music.

  • Is the Finnish Y similar to the French U in "tu"?

My teacher told me to pronounce that one as "tee" with my lips rounded.

  • @LovetteCher I dont know about french but at least words "new" and "dude" have almost like finnish Y.. And yes lips are rounded.

  • @LovetteCher Yep, it is =)

  • Beautiful video! Beautiful ambient music in the background, smooth relaxed speaker. I want to learn finnish!

  • what a charming delivery.

  • You my friend have the best accent I have ever, ever heard.

  • I'm Finnish American and only speak English. I feel kinda sad and empty whenever I see the old language. The rrrrr sound sounds like an angry animal in the night woods. Or maybe the sound of wild love. I like that. My grandmother spoke mostly Finnish. She was very quiet but when she did speak it was always with a big grin and a bunch of belly laughter. I never knew what she was saying but I knew I belonged to it. Like a leaf knows a root. Different parts of the same tree song concerto.

  • arrrrrrrr! love it. can't wait to come to finland.

  • I love Finnish accents. (I have a Finnish friend.)

This language is so much more complex than Swedish, so I'm a little lost. :P

  • @evyization28 Finnish and swedish languages have almost nothing in common, only some letters like "Ä" and "Ö", and also we have borrowed quite many words from them :)

  • @tontsa911 I noticed. He tries warning me that it is going to be hard, but I'm not listening. I want to learn! :D

  • I'm Half Finnish and I'm wondering how to speak it.Please help me!!!!!

  • Jävla Finska....

  • Finnish-English accents are definitely my favorite. :}

  • @milkman97 Are you high? Or just deaf?

  • Vittu sun englanti on paska...

  • @TheMissDouchebag Noniin, tee sä parempi. Omasta mielestä toi oli ihan jees.

Olis kiva kun Räikkönen tai Häkkinen tekis tälläsen... Halosesta nyt puhumattakaan :D

    Kitinä seis...

  • @lintu25 no mä oon ite 13v tyttö ja kaikkilla meidän englannin luokalla (including yours truly) on parempi englanti. siis varmaan sen perus englannin taito on iha ok mut toi lausuminen ärsyttää vähän

  • @TheMissDouchebag

suomalaisella äänellä ei saa täydellistä englantia, ei vaikka kui yrität. laita video kun ite puhut nii voin uskoa muuten TURPA KIINNI !

  • Finnish is the most beautiful language. Kiitos for your lesson :)

  • For Germans, the pronounciation of Y is simple. We sometimes also pronounce it that way. And we have the letter Ü, which is also pronounced like that.

  • paljon kiitoksia, se oli kinnostavaa! ^^

  • "Without sounding horrible"? Lol, come on. There are plenty of languages without vowel harmony, and they don't sound horrible.

  • Comment removed

  • @Scandinavian92 Then which word do you like the most? :)

  • Comment removed

  • I love that background music, makes me feel like I'm progressing lmao. Maybe if it was turned down just a tiny bit though... I love Finnish, such a fun language(:

  • Need to remove that background music - really disrupts understanding

  • Comment removed

  • 1 letter = 1 sound!!! Like in Serbian :)

  • the sound of Finnish somewhat reminds me of Italian - very musical and beautiful

your video is great! it is very clear and good

  • To the author: We Poles read all letters the same like you! The only exception is the letter 'y'.

    greetings!

  • 2253 different forms for every noun?! ha? ha? :O this is encouraging....

  • Raksatan Sinua!

  • @BrainsForBreakfastTV hahahahaahha I havent seen it spelled like that before :P

  • @BrainsForBreakfastTV Did you mean "rakastan sinua"? ;)

  • Hi :)

I just wanted to say that the o (with the two dots on top) isn't pronounced like in word or works. It's only pronounced that way when the words are spoken with a finnish or british accent. For an american accent, there is no sound equivalent to the finnish dotted O.

  • @ALXVid101 "horse" maybe?

  • @sundnick no, and actually i was wrong, there is no dotted o sound anywhere in the english language, not even with a british accent. how do you pronounce horse!? :D nvm, Y is the annoying one.

  • @ALXVid101

    how about "burn" or "sure"?

  • @ristuksenvittu not really.

  • ilove it :3

  • Minä en osaa lukea suomea 3: im still learning the language as is!

  • So after looking into Turkish and Finnish, I've concluded that English is not the hardest language to learn, (a "fact" that many English speakers are fed during primary school.) but rather, ANY Uralic language is a pain to learn. The grammar is easy, but vowel harmony is a very foreign concept, and many different forms of nouns (most of which do not have cognates in IE languages) are very difficult for speakers of Indo-European languages to learn.

  • @VFB1210 Stop spreading bullshit, no ones told that english is the hardest language.

  • @ALXVid101 I don't know where you live, but come to America, where I live. You will hear damn near every fucking elementary school teacher say it at one point or another.

  • @VFB1210 No, did elementary school in florida, no one ever said that to me. Maybe it's just different where you live.

  • Opettelehan ääntämään englantia ennen kuin opetat kenellekkään mitään :)

  • @TheSilentAnnie :) paras kommentti tälle videolle! täysin samaa mieltä siis. Esim. juuri sanaa "vowel" ei ymmärrä, jos et tiedä miten suomalaiset ääntää englantia suomalaisella aksentilla.

  • @TheSilentAnnie (I will learn to pronounce English before you teach anything to anyone:) LOL

  • That was extremely helpful! Thank you for being gracious enough to take time to do this. : )

  • Kiitos!!! Greetings from Greece!

  • this is really helpful, now i can at least pronounce words :) so i can sing along to levan polka :D

  • This is not only a very clear introduction but an example of what a beautiful and interesting language Finnish is. Thanks :)

  • I am absolutely in love with the finnish accent. THat's why I searched finnish XD lol

  • My god :)

    Lovely accent <3

  • Great tutorial!! I'm gearing up for a trip to Finland in Oct/Nov so this will help a LOT!! - P.S I love the "wubbles" it made me smile everytime, can't wait to get to Finland!!

  • thank you! im taking finnish for beginners at uni next year so i wanted to have a look at what it sounds like at least... most of the pronunciation rules are quite similar to my language (im czech)... anyways great work!

  • A very informative video! Paljon kiitoskia :)

I noticed similarities between the Finnish vowels and the vowels of my native language (quite dissimilar to English vowels).

  • OO i like how you rolled that R! Sounds like Spanish!!! lol

  • kiitoksia paljon!

  • @andthepharaohs kepp learning but its paljon kiitoksia :) keep practicing

  • Enpä tiiä mistäpäin oot, mutta minusta ilman murteita laudeliina lausutaan laudeliina, ei laudelliina... :D

  • Kiitos for making this! It really helps a lot! And I can't tell you how WONDERFUL it is to hear that some can't pronounce the "R"'s, I've found my inability to do that very embarrasing and typically refrain from joining in in a conversation in Spanish & Dutch because of it. Curse my lazy american tongue... Greetings from Atlanta and God bless beautiful Finland ;o)

  • As a native Spanish speaker, I can say I'm SO glad of that, given that I can easily manage "R" pronunciation!

Too bad 'cause my language only has 5 vowels and I'm REALLY suffering to say "ä", "ö" and "y".............

  • @wolf2272

Cool, for me it's the other way round. I am German and I can say ä ö and y (ü) quite easily, but I have problems with the r.

  • Comment removed

  • hahahaha how can u teach y or ö? thank god im turkish, we have all ur sounds. and it took 3 months to learn finnish. i bet finns can learn turkish easier.

    say simply y is ü :D

  • @karteorhan I know even his accent sounds like Turk. :) especially when he says Word.

  • Being a native Dutch speaker makes it so much easier to learn to speak Finnish xD

I can say the RRRRR :D

At last I got a reason to be thankful for being Dutch

  • Love it when he says vowel hehe

  • I'm Finnish and I always watch these videos :D I just want to read the comments!

  • i know that many ppl think that Finnish is a bad and funny language... FUCK! it's a very awesome language of an awesome country!!! <333 im crazy about Finnish and i can read it well cos the pronounciation is very similar to my language, Turkish^^ hope that i will understand this epic language soon... and i think it will be easy for me cos Finnis grammar is nearly the same as Turkish, there are certain informations about that=)

  • Isn't it because people who go to Finland want to learn Finish, so they access computers in Finland to view this video?

  • What a beautiful accent ^_^

  • I love Finlen :33333

  • @EnvyAbomination Finlen? :D

  • @FinOBrian

    yes. finlen is awesome

    :------DDDD

  • Finland is currently ranked as the number 1 country in the world. Best education, highest life expectancy, best country to live in, etc... Man, how I wish I could live there.

  • @andres170295 no its norway

  • Thank you so much! :D

I am reading finish like crazy now. I don't even know what I read, but it's cool and cute, and I hope one day I will understand it too :P ^_^

  • very rery reer ja wobbles :) tää on jotenkin niin rentouttavaa kuunneltavaa, aina kun on stressiä ni eiku video pyörimään taustalle ja heti tulee parempi fiilis :) ja hyvä video muuten!

  • I love when Finnish people speak English, I could listen to this all day. Great video c:

  • Very interesting. Thank you very much.

  • Finish language is so expressive. Words sound how they look, not like in English. Finish along with English are my 2nd and 3rd languages, so far i like Finnish better.

  • Grat video! I think speaking spanish and italian makes a bit easier the R and the double consonants... I hope I'm able to learn finnish someday :) TY!

  • My gpa only speaks finnish idk if i can ever speak it lol

  • wow, this was very useful

    and yet...

I MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO SAY COTTON CANDY IN FINNISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    *sniff*

  • took me 7 mins to figure out "wubbles" meant vowels XD

  • @limchulsu its tough because it has two different V's right next to eachother and we dont use W : )

  • @Furmilo No, siis. Sehän lausutaan enemmänkin suomalaisittain väännettynä "wauls" eikä "vovels"

  • @Furmilo It's not that complicated. You just have to remember that V is the sound that you have and W is the sound that you don't have.

  • I'm moving to Oulu next year and this is really helpfull!!

  • you have the best accent ever !

  • I'm sorry, "A like in Cup" Did I miss something here? There is no A in Cup. WTF is going on!?

  • @jambi880 no,he means when you say the word "cup" the "u" in it sounds just like a normal "a" in finnish :)

  • @Gleeba77 Oh okay thanks! Some Finnish pronounciations are quite tough to grasp. Perkele!

  • @jambi880 lol you're welcome :)

  • btw: tervetuloa = welcome but its tervattuloa (ter ve ttu lo a)

  • Just started learning a week ago, thanks for this

  • Alphabet sounds like German.

  • i'm totally learning this language! i have no probs in pronunciation, because the concept is almost the same with Malay.. you pronounce the word as it spelled. for instance, muka = moo-ka. not muck-a. anyway Sana in Malay means "there" and Tuli means "Deaf". I'm so excited to learn this language! :D

  • You forgot to tell us about velar nasal

  • You forgot to tell about velar nasal

  • I hope they have mixed sauna's in finland, then i leave my laudeliina at home and light the tuli in me and leave of with a beautifull tuuli.

    terveiset alankomaat.

    jäädytetty asia

  • Than you! I love your accent :) Well, finnish pronunciation is easy for a spaniard.

  • fuck all the fins !!! fucking stupid ifnnish

  • the R is almost the same in dutch, you say arrr we say errr xD

  • the difference between fire and wind is U ? shit

  • Would it be at all possible for a student such as myself with a busy life to teach myself the Finnish language and achieve some level of fluency?

  • You say that 'k' is the only consonant that is pronounced differently to English but that is not my experience. I have noticed, for instance, that 'p' is pronounced much harder by Finns than by English speakers; to the point where it sounds more like 'b' (which isn't in the Finnish alphabet). The vowel 'o' doesn't really map exactly between the 2 languages either.

  • one of the funniest languages i've ever listened to

  • Awesome vid..! Thanks a lot for sharing. Have you put up more of these? You're a patient teacher :D Keep it up :)

  • PERKELE

  • @thedudsonette

    Vittu nyt sitä KOFFIA pöytään!

  • @thedudsonette that's the first thing i learned in finnish hahahaha

  • @MrBaconMouth Tieks ihan vitun hauskaa... Hanki vähän lisää kävijöi sun johki YOUTUBE profiiliin.. Kehtaatkin levittää tollast paska sanomaa. On kunnia syntyä suomalaiseksi.

  • Like he said in the video even many of us finns have difficulty pronouncing "R" :D

  • great video. :)

  • Im slowly learning finnish and this is such a helpful video <3

    Thanks!

  • This is a difficult language, but fortunately, this video makes the pronunciation much more bearable.

  • perkerleen viikset

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

  • i really enjoy learning finnish, it's alot of fun specially because my native languish is spanish and words are almost read the same way as they are written. The letter R in finnish is pronounced the same in spanish so it came to me very naturally. The only mayor differences are with H which is silent in spanish, the letter Y which is pronounced like "i" or "J" . Im learning finnish because im planning on moving to Finland to study in Helsinki. I love the culture and hope to adapt smoothly =)

  • WHy is this video most watched in Finland?

Do the Finn's not speak their own language?

    hahaha!

  • @Annnabef9

We are curious to see how other view our language. This is why we look these sorts of video's up.

  • @Annnabef9 We want to know how he is trying to teach you guys.. And btw, in Finland we don't usually SPEAK literary language, we have many different dialects which are pretty different (ofc we understand each others.. well not ALWAYS..) and sometimes it's hard to know how something is written in correct literary language so we actually need many Finnish lessons in school 'cos it's hard for us too. For example word "you" is in Finnish "sinä" but you can say it "sä" "sää" "nää" "sie"...

  • @greeenrain Your english is very good, it is the same way in america with english, we take english class in school, for grammer and spelling. :D

There isn't a single grammer "rule" in the english language that is consistent. ;)

  • @Annnabef9 We just want to see how easy/hard is it to learn world's 3rd hardest language for non-finnish people
