Hey Bernard if by some crazy chance you're reading this please throw a concert in Dallas, TX. New Order is my favorite band in the universe. Screw U2 and Coldplay I have seen them both in concert. They are nothing compared to you. You touch my soul man. Where ever you are I wish you happiness.
Ahh yes I remember this was the one that got me into New Order, I sang along to every word and they all looked at me as if I was mad. A great day and the last time I saw them play live.
I prefer Bernard's singing to Ian Curtis. I don't think New Order would have prospered with Curtis as a vocalist. The guy could barely carry a tune let alone JD's music would have died if they didn't pick up on the dance craze. Curtis was a one note hack whose been given the Morrison treatment, undeservedly.
Ian was Ian and Bernard is Bernard. His voice is perfect for what they write. I can't imagine a world without a New Order out there somewhere. This track is pure class.
I find it infuriating when people criticise Bernard's singing, cut him some slack for fuck's sake. He didn't choose to be the singer, he was the bloody guitarrist and Ian popped himself. He could have just slunk away to bemoan what had happened, but he didn't, he tried to put the pieces together and make the most of what there was. Can you imagine the pressure he was under, he knew he couldn't sing and that he would for ever be compared with Ian but he did it anyway, that took balls.
A haunting intro leading to a great song.............gets the old goosepimples going. What were you doing / who were you with the first time you heard this song?Brings memories back for me.
I saw them play at Move Festival at Old Trafford ground, Lancashire Cricket Club. The whole night was amazing but this one stood out. It just has all the classic new order special ingredients - melodica, great hooky bass lane, cheeky lyrics and a guitar hook to die for.
I actually saw them as Joy Division supporting the Buzzcocks. As usual with support acts no one took much notice and they played to a room of about 15 people.
I love the way that it is completely pointless, but he has done it for like 30 years. Even on the Mrs Merton Show. Style. Class. Cool. Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.
SIMPLY HEAVENLY!!! Like most of their songs from the albums "Movement" , "Power , corruption and Lies" , "Low Life" , "Technique " and the others as well like Substance. The greatest band ever along with Joy Division!
Vive New Order !
this reminds me of being gutted at 15 and listening to this after my girlfriend dumped me...she phoned me later to see how i was and all i could think of to say was why don't you piss off....felt great after that
Compares with Atmosphere for me. Like that, this is a song of great beauty and soul. Like a fine wine, live this band improved with age. This is just not the same band I can remember from the early-mid 80s shows I attended. Not sure their recording strength was maintained. Some good stuff written in later years, but nothing matche their 80s songs. Not sure why the teleprompter is an issue. Why care? This is still great art. And don't orchestral players have music sheets in front of them?
i agree - they were at their peak in the 80's - i was lucky to see them 5 times as they toured in n. america and always came to san francisco...not a big fan of some of their later stuff - and barney's new group Bad Lieutenant is running at the back of the crowd for me...
One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite bands. I was lucky enough to see them a couple of times back in the early 80s but sadly never got to see them after. Wish I had.
Bernard plays guitar like I mash potatoes.
