  • I drive a Cummins, but am a lover of all things running on #2... And that truck is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen. Especially since it doesn't blow ANY smoke. Simply amazing. I can't wait to see the technology and HP we will have in Diesel motorsports in another 10 years!

  • can i please come to work for you? at least sweeping stuff up? i love everything about diesels and love to be around them. lol i convinced my dad to modify his duramax and always talk him in to getting stuff for it, he never lets me drive it tho :/

  • Diesels have long ago lost their "oil engine" image.

A diesel powered car wons the Le Mans 24 hours.

"Performance Diesels" used in high performance European sports cars are very clean and very quiet.

You are on the right track developing high performance diesel engines!

  • are you running fuel only? there is a video of the truck in the pits tittle "banks smoke???" and he is clearly purging something. just wondering what it was

  • @crewzindually Nitrous. When you tune a diesel not to smoke, that leaves some availible oxygen in the cylinder, that would otherwise not get burned. You can add nitrous to that air. So where diesel is going to combust with some of the air, if don't want the engine to smoke, then that leaves some unused air, and then you use nitrous. Gives you more power. You could also you autogas, that is, CNG.

  • ive got one question why isnt there any black smoke when its a diesels? he running propane injection lol ? any one here know ?

  • @pezsez2 @pezsez2 Diesels only start to make smoke once they start to run more than about 50% of the stoichiometric rate of diesel fuel. Basically, it reduces their efficiency and power to not make smoke.

But what's happening is that for the given amount of oxygen in the air charge, they could put more fuel in, but that would make it smoke, and the smoke is ugly. So the way they stop that smoke production is by purposely not putting so much fuel into a given amount of air.

  • @JesseDanielHimself 3 months old comment, but I would like to add that, to put it simply, when they produce smoke, the engine is running on a rich mixture so the fuel is not fully burned. When they do not produce smoke, the engine is running on lean mixture. If I'm not wrong, running on lean mixture produces more power and is more efficient at the expense of heat?

  • @TechnologyR0xx0rz Yes, that's correct. The leaner you can run an engine, the more power it will make. A rich mixture zaps away some of the heat in the cylinder, meaning not as much power to push the piston down. The danger is that you don't want to run too lean. Too lean in a petrol engine, you'll get knock and risk burning a piston. Run too lean in a diesel you'll really burn the piston.

But hotter combustion makes more heat, very true. That's when a good radiator is handy.

  • Why do you guys use only Duramax?

  • gotta hand it to ya, you dont get that kind of result without alot of great planning/thinking/wrenching. great truck!

  • No smoke! Thats impressive. My big ol turbos take forever to spool. Im considering adding a supercharger if I can get it figured out.

  • so how can banks be the first when the dr. performance drag truck did it on 2007 with their truck that used to be called Predator? of course, it wasn't officially backed up in the same year....so maybe banks is the first 'on the books'?

  • @upinsmoke945 The only time Dr. Performance showed a 7.x time was when they smoked out the lights. They even admited it later. The quickest their truck has ever run was an 8.34.

  • Hey bankspowerinsider I know roughly how you make all that power with no smoke but I would like to know if you guys have done any research into Diesel + Gasoline Mixing I heard of a research project that was able to increase diesel fuel efficiency by mixing Gasoline and diesel fuel in the motor.

  • (to bankspowerinsider)The study was done by Rolf Reitz at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He achieved a 20% increase in fuel efficiency and up to 53% increase in thermal effiency. You guys at Banks might want to check it out.

    (Google: Fast response fuel blending)

  • whats the 0-60 time

  • well since its running a 7.77 at 180mph, id say its 0-60mph would be something around 1 second.

  • in the 6's now.

  • So much nitro you mixing with the diesel........

  • Mixing nitro in with the diesel fuel would make less power not more. Nitro has a lower energy output than diesel does. Any nitro added to the fuel, whatever the concentration, would displace that same amount of diesel fuel and actually lower the horsepower output. As a matter of fact nitro only has 12.9mj/L of energy density while diesel fuel has 38.7mj/L.

  • can u explain the transmission problems to me, I didnt understand?

  • they dont run nitrous in this truck... its just pure diesel fuel found at any old gas station.

just for the record, gale doesnt like the idea of nitrous anyways.... and neither do i.

  • if you wanted to make more power, propane is to diesel what nitrous is to gas

  • such a beautiful truck i've watch all your videos 5*****

  • Once again guys and gals. It's perfectly fine to comment on the video. However, foul language, bashing and insults WILL NOT be tolerated. Your post will be deleted.

  • ohh and by the way .. pardon .. my really .. bad .. english

  • Gettin the smoke away if pure Engeneering.. basicly the *Engine is completly remade * using new and better injection positioning , injection timing ,flow rate setup just to name a few of what it need.... Banks shoudl really show to every engine compagny hot to make pollution efficient engine

  • Getting rid of the smoke is having extra air in the cylinders diesels need the extra air rather than extra fuel.

  • Congratulations on the record, do you have plans to improve the power output your actual kits have? it would be nice the option of a Big Hoss that adds up to 250+ hp, 500+ lb/ft

  • how do you eliminate the smoke? i am trying to soup up my cummins and i would like to know how to make the smoke go away

  • well thats almost impossible in a cummins I think but give it a big turbo it helps a lot

  • Are you kidding? The best thing about diesels is the black smoke. I just love to punch it when someone close to me has their windows down.

  • I would like to punch YOU down mofo.

  • Nice truck do it on diesel only and you wont get so much flack. All the other trucks in the class are diesel only. What do you think the dodge boys would be runnin if they stuffed it full of nitrous? way faster than this truck 4 sure!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't mean to sound superior, but I'd like to see 'em do it. Obviously there are many more trucks running out there besides us. Just think of what losers we'd be if the magic ingredient was NOS, and if everyone out there only needed to add it their rig to do what we did? Wow, how embarrassing would that be? If that's all it takes then I invite everyone to put NOS on their trucks and come out to get us.

  • m not trying to take away the fact that the truck is amazing and a cool acomplishment. I'm saying that everyone else is not running NOS. I would like to see you run in there class with no Nos on the truck. Lets not forget how much of a facter track and temp conditions can play. Plus I would like to remind everyone that the Dr. Performance truck ran 7.82 seconds at the 2007 DHRA Indiana Diesel Nationals. I have no idea when you guys ran your time so its hard to say who was first.

  • It's ok. Dr. Performance truck is running NOS, and has been for a while. That run you mentioned is a bit of a controversy in itself. The timing light was so freaked out by the smoke that the results were skewed, and since then they haven't been able to get even close to that run... even in the sevens again. When we went to Vegas in October they came on by to hand us our hats, but after two runs didn't and ended up wounding the engine. Plus, NOS has done nothing to clean up the smoke.

  • Look, believe it or not we're looking forward to folks bring out their trucks and pushing 'em to out do us. By mixing it up a little the sport is going to get more exciting, and fellas out there are going to push diesel tech as well. I'm really interested in seeing the limits pushed to bring about the better, to evolve. Diesel motorsports is going to become more than a guy urinating fuel into the combustion chamber with a garden hose to try to get the most power they can.

  • That kind of thing results in HP you can see coming out of the stacks, but could never use. We want folks to work on the insides of the engine, to make them cleaner and more efficient. Remember the saying "necessity is the mother of invention"? If we created the need, then I'm happy. I just can't wait to see what comes next, and who comes up with what. It's going to be a very exciting year.

  • Seems to me that if the Dr. Performance crew really thought that 7.82 was legit, they'd include that in their advertisements. However, in the Dr. Performance ad in the april 08 diesel world mag. they advertise they have "the worlds quickest diesel powered pickup" DHRA record of 8.480 @164.23.

  • yes ..... yes .. lets start a diesel performance war ... and let the consumers reap the benefits!!!!!

  • Banks rules all the tuners. Not only are they coming up on the "dart" dragsters with their times but are doing it with no smoke! Gotta love that dsl pwr. And for all you empty heads spouting profanity, remember this, Stupid people need profanity to lend weight to their otherwise useless words. Ram, chevy, or ford, Diesel rules!

  • yea we all know chevy is the badest cant fuck wit the duramax motor

  • you dont need alot of power to run 7's in a truck with no weight on it.. plus N02 helps the hp alot to.. if i had the money i would build the sickest cummins anyone would have never thought of.. im not all bullshit.. i know how to build it..

  • Wow, that sucker really launches! I'd like to know the 60ft time.

  • Way to Go BANKS! Can't wait to see that thing on the drag race tracks later on this year! Congrats on breaking the 7 second barrier Whoo hooo! Slick.

  • How do you run the engine that hard, and not blow the slightest bit of smoke? Is that a Duramax? You can hardly hear that it's a diesel.

  • According to an interview with Gale Banks in a recent diesel magazine, he's a firm believer in burning diesel fuel completely. He's not a fan of heavy smoke.

We have to commend Banks for doing an amazing job of not only running 7's, but also eliminating diesel smoke completely, which is a big challenge itself. If it's indeed diesel and N20 only, nice job Banks!

I'm not sure about some people's claims that this truck running on alcohol though.

  • sweet. i love it. how can i gain some knowledge in that field of racing diesel. Got room for a future A&P mech. on your team?

  • the foot brake method, aka power brake, put it up on the converter, no lag time between go and move, just launch hard as hell.. works god, only good for a second or two on spool up.. otherwise the converter will burn up

  • balls to the wall on that one. good one banks.

  • drag race bigfoot eighth mile, banks would still win, but monster trucks are fast 0-60

  • The trans brake needs help so he foot braked too? What will you do for a brake as you develop more power???

It's a shame he hit the revlimiter leaving the line, you can see the tires load-unload-load in the slowmotion. Fix that and it'll ET even better...

This thing leaves like a proper drag racer and is Quicker than all the diesel back motor dragsters but one. How would you like to be one of those dragster guys knowing a damn truck can kick your ass. Talk about embarassing...

  • Wow! U guys truly are at the forefront of diesel technology.
