  • "they're good if you're constipated" LMAO! I love Clara!!

  • I have a similar holiday story about going down the stairs and falling, but in my story I’m carrying an alcoholic beverage and not one drop spilled. :o) Well, thank you for the technique. I read about these treats years ago and never tried them out; they called them x-cookies in that book.

I think I’ll give them a try now.

  • Love it love it!!!

  • BRAVO CLARA!!!

  • I love the picture of The Last Supper above the kitchen table. I'm definitely going to make these for Christmas, and dye my hair when I get old:)

  • yummy!!

  • My Italian aunt on my step dad's side of the family would make these.Last time I had them was back in the early 70s.

  • I love the bedsheet idea because I don't have a lot of space in my kitchen. Thank you for posting these videos. I didn't know how to put it all together just by reading the recipe, I needed to see how it's done. When I make mine, I'll be thankful the fact that this recession is nothing at all as bad as the Great Depression.

  • @EcoEnvious that's what my grandmother used to do!

  • Oh, I am in tears. This is one of my all-time favorite videos of all times, and not just because I am part Italian, from NY, and happen to love love love Christmas fig cookies. This woman is so funny. If other cooks on tv were this funny and straight-forward, I'd be interested in watching them.

  • What if you`re not constipated :o

  • One batch of these could feed Africa. For a week. An then maybe some...

They look delicious, but they make too many & look like a LOT of work.

  • Thank you for this Great video Clara! God Bless. I made these this past Christmas. Came out wonderful. Like to make recipes from my sicilian heritage. Buon Natale! Liliana

  • Great Video! I made them too this year! Brings back memories of me and my Nonna, she's 97. I don't use the 4 types of nuts, just hazelnuts and almonds and Marsala wine instead of the whiskey. I will pass done my Sicilian heritage to my children. Thanks Clara and God Bless. Liliana

  • No offence, but the "Goodmorning" from the ladies, sounded quite...Uhm..weird.

  • This was Uploaded on my Birthday!

  • They ARE a lot of work...but definitely worth it. Unfortunately, I don't have any little helpers this year so I won't be making them...and they will surely be missed. Thanks so much for sharing your video. MERRY CHRISTMAS to YOU and YOUR FAMILY! We'll see you in 2011!! xoxo

  • Gotta love elderly people passionate about clean bowels! I think I'll be one of them one day.

  • Absolutely MARVELOUS!! One of the best videos I've ever seen. I loved seeing the old utensils and bowls and pot Nana uses.

  • looks like you had a great time with ur grandaughters :D you are so awesome clara!

  • What a job these are, but then again with all the holiday food,

One might need the assistance of a laxative cookie! lol!

  • 'To hell with the spiderweb! Pick me up!' Hahahahaha!!

  • The Holiday Cooking series combines my two favorite things - History & baking!! I love it!

  • "they're good when you're constipated too"

    awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • I have a rolling pan just like that. Got it from my grandmother. Those cookies look yummy and so healthy too.

  • Clara you are so beautiful! Watching you makes me miss my Grand so much. Thank you for making your cooking videos. You and your girls are so fun to watch and the recipes are wonderful. We are going to adopt your Cucidati fig cookies into our family holiday tradition. I hope to one day get to make these with my future grandchildren. Keep doing what your doing and Gods blessing to you and your family.

  • Clara, you so much remind me of my own Sicilian gramma and her 5 sisters, who were my great aunts.. I remember them making fig cookies every year and Italian chocolate cookies too.. they looked just like yours... thanks for the memories...

  • In watching this I wish I had the recipes to several cookies that my grandmother used to make...Love your videos Claire!!

  • Clara is so wonderful! Her Grandchildren are so very Lucky to have this wonderful collection of what the Depression was to an average person. You are all so fortunate to have one another! Clara is so Cute! I wish so much that she was my Grandmother. You are so Lucky. Continue to make these beautiful videos. I have watched every one and my daughter also. We have made a few of her recipes already. CLARA WE LOVE YOU!

  • Yummy; I can't wait for the holidays to roll around again so I can make these for my family!!!

  • Awwww the ending just broke me down, Great job Clara and the girls...

  • haha...no conversation with a grandmother is complete without advocating that the food will keep you regular.

  • I don't get why there is orange peel in the recipe.

  • oh man, those look so good. great, now i'm hungry.

  • waw you are very lovely i really like your videos i wish you coud be my grandmother :)

  • What a joy to watch!! Recipes looks absolutely fabulous! thanks for sharing :)

  • I'm making them as I type I'm watching because I can't remember if I have to sift the dry ingreds. The Fig paste is perfect!! Especially with that 18 cups of whiskey!..Just kidding I've written this down to the letter:)

  • Haha just like Great Granny Ambrogio every recipe makes about 5000 cookies!!...familys we're much bigger she was one of seven and had seven of her own! I'll post the result when I've finished tomorrow:)

    Buon Natale

    Buone Feste

  • Those look magnificent! I wish my family was more like this, but my grandmother is getting old and is starting to go, sadly. But maybe one day in the future i will have a family like this! Keep on cooking and keep on keeping on! P.S you're a lovely cook!

  • I'm soooo not going to make boring mincemeat pies I'm going to make these!

  • I'm making these for Christmas. Thank you Clara.

  • They look so good, but I don't know if I can make them I don't have the patience, something about you that I love is that your so patient, doesn't matter how long it takes, and your videos are amazing, and I can't stop watching them,Ima ask my mom can she get me your book..I want to read it and your the cutest, and you make me laugh and put a small on my face..when I'm sad the only thing I have to do is come watch your videos..I may be only 12 but your just awesome, and I couldn't help but subscribe.

  • LOL! "They're for when you're constipated!" Love old people! Something so precious about them! :) They just touch my heart!

  • Full of knowledge!

  • I can't stop watching her. I want her cookbook...just sweetness...

  • They look so delicious

  • I think this video is one of my favorite "Clara" videos. You show us how important it is teaching children how to "help" I am so sad for the children and teenagers of today. They have grown up learning nothing about the home and everything about how to "ignore" family and home. Thank you for your videos.

    The old woman from Colorado.

  • not true.. I am 22, my step son is 10 and I try at every moment to teach, and show him all the old fashion things my grandma used to. Just because some people are bad parents don't generalize everyone else.

  • You're right! I couldn't interest my daughter or son in cooking, tho I tried...My son eventually picked up on some but that came on his own. My daughter cooks a little, but not like I do...However, my 7 year old granddaughter loves to cook, so we have a lot of fun!

  • In the video Clara states One pound of lard but the recipe list on right states one cup of lard. The lard block looks like one pound not one cup. Thanks for taking the time to pass this recipe on. I will give it a try soon.

  • God Bless you Clara :) Thank you so much! I have been looking for a recipe to make these cookies similar to the way my grandma did and It looks as if I've finally found it.

  • This is what life is about. Good food with family surrounding you. I love that Clara is handing down her Italian traditions to the next generation.

  • This makes me miss Christmas....

  • grandma she is so sweet lady , thank you for the recipe, is any way you can tell me the recipe for the figs

  • Dang. That was alot of work! She went ahead and cooled them on the bed! Ha!Ha!

  • Constipated ! LOL!! She said it twice. LOL

I love how you have a tradition with the girls. Really nice.

  • Clara, I love the way you explain things truly and you made me laugh too.

These are the best cookies i have ever tried in my life. Thank you!!!!

  • Sicilian ( Taurmina) fig rolls (cookies) are the same recipoe AND DELICIOUS

  • Maybe we all have something to learn here....Cook with lard and white flour but eat lots of fruit and fiber too....and you might just live to 90something! Great video!

  • Cucidati??? In Italian "BUCCELLATI", in Sicily is "CUCCIDDATI"

  • wow those look amazing. i want to make them this christmas. :) adorable little boy! :D

  • This was my favorite video seeing you and your family enjoying this time together. greatgrandson is adorable.

  • i hope i can look that young when i'm her age

  • @cutetoiletwater

    so mentally sharp, as well!!!

  • My Nana, Pennsy Dutch, used to make little nutcup cookies once a year. A bit dry but wonderful. I ate most of them and she was happy. The others kind of ignored them.

  • OMG!! My Grammy use to make nutcups she was pennsy dutch!!! She lived in a town called PenArgyl Pennsylvania.... I miss her soooo much......

  • I hope I do as well as Clara when I make these cookies! I love you, Clara, a big heart, sensible mind, good health, family, what more do you need?

  • cute boy :)

  • there like home made fig nutons!!!! lol i love her! shes so cute!

  • Lard is actually better for your health than Crisco or any fully hydrogenated fat.

Taste of it alone is nothing much, but makes a huge difference in the final product!!

  • the lard is necessary for flakiness....and flavor

it's not like you are going to sit and eat the whole batch....or are you?

  • "They're good if you're constipated" LOL

  • Everybody should order the CD...I got it and absolutely love it.

  • Clara, you say to bake at 350 degrees; but, I notice that your granddaughter puts the oven on 375---is that a correction or does it really matter?

  • brought back so many good memories and emotions, thanks for sharing

  • ''Look! The best thing that I myself have seen, which is pretty, is that one should eat and drink and see good for all his hard work with which he works hard under the sun for the number of the days of his life that the true God has given him, for that is his portion." - King Solomon, Ecclesiastes 5:18

  • In Sicily, we call this " Cuccidatu". With this recipe you also can make " Buccellati".

    Kisses from Sicily!

  • "I dont know if it's worth it" hahah love the honesty.

  • Precious legacy, Thanks for sharing!

  • So sweet. I love this video! Thank you, Clara.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE COOKBOOK CLARA!

  • I never had a nana like Clara but, Clara is such a wonderfull person l think we can all consider her our very own nana. Love you clara

  • "...and they're good if you're constipated, too".

too wicked funny (bet they are, too)

  • Okay got my bags packed I'm on my way. Nah, but seriously your family is wonderful and it's a PLEASURE watching you.

  • Thank you for sharing your videos. You are bringing back a lost art; family time.

  • omg the cookies! lol

  • shes so sweet

  • The girl in the beginning is wearing a shirt from my college!

  • SO much about this video reminds me of my Nana, who passed away in 1993. The stories, the family time spent together, doing everything by hand, rolling out the dough "not too thin, but thinner than that," putting the finished cookies on the bed with a white sheet laid across it... it's like seeing my Nana all over again. I absolutely love your videos.

  • I LOVE your videos.

    Humor.

    Passion.

    Love.

    Food.

    Stories.

    The complete package! :D

  • Clara, you're the one! :D

  • that was beautiful! cookie takes alot of time and preparation to make, but was lovely to see the ladies cooking and talking together. now that's family! God bless you, Clara!

  • mmmi i just want to take a BITE

  • She's so happy and always smiling... that's wonderful to see especially at this age!

  • They're good if your constipated...LOL! Clara rocks!

  • Those cookies were mouthwatering! No doubt, they originated in very prosperous households that could afford to import 4 kinds of nuts with many servants/daughters in the kitchen to shell, crack, toast + mix the nuts + plenty of space to store the mixtures while they settled. Funny story about neighbors being more concerned about the cookies than Clara after her stairwell fall! For one lady to make those cookies solo with all those steps would have been a great deal of work for her! Thanks!

  • these look delicious!!

  • i wish they weren't so complicated to make. They look good.

  • WOW them look so good. I went to the Western Culinary Institute for pitisery and baking but this and even the simple things this women makes all look great. Im from the ghetto so and watching these videos takes me back to the goverment cheeze line days lol. Is ther a DVD or cook book, and if so wher can i get it?

  • are you talking about buying a DVD with her in it? The main video on her YT page is about the DVD shes selling. I'm so buying it next Friday.

  • Wow those cookies look so good, yet so complicated, I'm debating whether or not I should try to make them!

  • love it, lol, "they are good if you're constipated."

  • I love Clara....she makes me laugh especially when she tells the girls that the cookies are good when you are constipated....she reminds me of my Gramma but Clara uses way more salt than her.

  • I live in Mexico and we have fresh figs from a tree in the garden. Do I use them fresh or should I dry them in the oven first (I'm in a dilemma because our fresh figs are delicious!)

  • God bless you and your family, you are a joy. Keep up the great work.

  • mmmmmmmmmmmm...

    that look sooo delicious!

  • i love your smile! it just lights up the whole room

  • Clara's hands remind me of my mother's- and mine. She is a joy to watch and learn from.

  • These are great videos - thanks for being "everyone's Nana" .

I love the stories and will try the cookies for sure.

  • Im hooked too! My Grandma also made these cookies and it brings back such good memories.

  • I am HOOKED. This is my new favorite "show". I am fan Carla!

  • Bless her sweet little heart! She is as cute as a button!

  • What a wonderful loving family! Clara, you are an adorable little Italian nonna. The one I never knew!

    Love you!

    God Bless you!

  • Good for when you're constipated. That was so funny

  • i love nanna
