  • Love this. Y'all are so lucky in Minn. to have Al:)

  • I'm the Joker

  • President Obama!

    Senator Franken!

I like, I like! This country's headed in the right direction again.

  • Good luck on November 4th!

  • One health crisis away from disaster- that's EXACTLY where I'm at. I haven't been able to afford health insurance for years. Over the past 8 years I've felt a great decay in my sense of security and in my hope for the future. Al- between Barrack and you I think, and hope, the US is moving towards positive change. "The Truth with Jokes" helped to convince me that you understand the rugged landscape of Washington DC and that you're brave enough to take on the challenge. You have my vote sir.

  • Very sincere video.

I personally would prefer that government stay out everyone's lives and let private service groups provide a helping hand to people who need it.

  • Franken!

  • Stuart Smalley for Senate!

  • He sounds like the Heath Ledger Joker.

  • It's just his muscular tics.

  • He's not good enough, He's not smart emough, and dog-gonnit people don't like him.

  • Inpirational and intelligent.... go Al!

  • Al will be a great US Senator!

  • I hope that Jerry Springer learns from this campaign.

People will take you seriously if you show them YOU are serious.

Al Franken makes me wish I lived in Minnesota.

    DON'T LET US DOWN, AL!

  • It's like having a friend running for senate. I love it.

  • GO GET 'EM AL!

  • Stuart Smalley for Senate!

    Savage/Coulter '08

  • Mr. Franken, I'm not from Minnesota and I've never been there, but if I lived there I'd vote for you. Over the years I've thought that you always were a pretty smart man, and I hope Minnesotans will give you the chance to do good things for your state in the United States Senate...Go Give 'Em Hell!!

  • yeah he's really not my favorite!

  • I'll translate.

"I am a terrorist. Please shoot me now."

  • Republicans require a translation from plain English. What a surprise.

  • And they still believe in fairy tales too.

  • Blah Blah Blah

  • I agree, the republicans should get out of the way of small business that encourage growth in this country, and stop feeding billions to large special interest corporations that are killing this nation. Like you said, if the Republicans would just get the hell out of the way, lots of things could be done, but don't hold your breath, because it looks like McBush and his slut may have a chance to will in 2008.

  • if i lived in minn. id vote for him.

i hate that people think less of actors or comedians that have poitical views. Just cause your talented doesnt mean you dont know what your talking about. you can be talented and intellegent.

  • Maybe people are discouraged because they know that Republican actors don't work. So let's try a Democratic one!

  • Beachman42: When has deregulation ever worked for anyone but the wealthiest Americans? Under Reagan, the very favorite figure in Conservative history, deregulation took off. But in the 8 years of Reaganomics the rich got richer and the poor got poorer. Bush is big on deregulation. Have we gained jobs or lost them under Bush? Name one time that Government "getting out of the way" led to the "economy taking off." Obama proposes tax RELIEF for anyone making less than 250 thousand.

  • He sounds like The Joker

  • i support the democrats, but you didnt pay your taxes in 11 different states, and you called it an "honest mistake"

i do not like norm coleman either, i dont support the war, and i do not think your made for polotics, your made for comedy, which your good at. stick with that.

  • BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.

  • But government isn't a safety net. You can't count on government to be there. Ask someone who's lived through Hurricane Katrina.

  • Al -- On your side!!!!!

You are an intelligent, honest, and, yes, humorous individual! Love to hear you annoy the hell out of those self-righteous, brown-nosing, media a____les.

As for your comments on human nature and your best-selling books . . . more power to you!

    A proud American, Jeanne : )

  • And he did that in ONE TAKE. Listen and learn y'all.

  • Al has my support. God bless him and America--we sure need him.

  • where's the punch-line?

  • having no punch-line is the punch-line

  • Precisely. What's funnier than a comedian becoming a Senator...and actually succeeding at it?

  • Good luck Al! Support your stand on renewable energy, education, Iraq, universal health care, social security and private pension protection, and the general role of government.

  • Are you nuts? ColemanBUSH is the worst of the worst.

He stands up for EVERY greedy special interest there is....big OIL, DRUG companies, Trial Liars....I mean Lawyers.....

Vote for Al. He is flawed and real and cares.

Coleman is cosmetic, unreal and FALSE!

    Do it......

  • The conservative estimate for the Defense budget released Feb 7 2007 was $766.5bn. Which doesn't include monies from other sources( DOE, Department of State, Veterans Affairs) which make the budget closer to 1 trillion dollars for fiscal year 2008.

  • uhh no coleman sucks, good-bye!

  • Why won't "Frankenclown For Senate" let me post a response here? I never used offensive language, nor did I ramble. I only typed, "Al, Al Frankenclown.." They wouldn't post it. How Democratic.

  • You can make your own YouTube account if you want to post negative comments about him. I don't see why they should be expected to give you a place to speak on theirs.

  • My hero.

  • Al, Al Frankenclown. It doesn't get any worse than this.

  • WHAT? He lived in Portland Maine??? Dude I'm sitting in my appartment in Portland Maine watching this! haha

  • I listened to Al Franken on his radio show on Air America for 3 eyars, and believe me this man knows his stuff, he's truly cares about people and whether they are getting a fair deal in life. Government should be there to help people not the big corporations and the politically well connected. He can and will make a difference as senator of Minnesota. All he asks is that you listen to what he has to say and the issues that effect your community & yourself & then make a decision come November.

  • Go Al, go!

  • I care about the environment and Al will be a fighter for those who want to live in a cleaner world.

  • aletaleta .... Like high taxes? or are you financially set? If your set, then keep your trap shut.

  • This guy has heart, intelligence and courage. Now he's willing to put aside his career in order to fix problems in the US. We should be so lucky as to have him in the Senate.

  • What career?

  • Book writing.

  • Just what we need..........a bad comic.

  • Mr, Franken. If your elected, how much more are you going to raise my taxes? As you know MN. is one of the highest taxed states in the country. Your a liberal so that means more taxes that my family and I "CANT AFFORD". Step out of the race and leave us alone, PLEASE

  • I am from minnesota alot of our stuff isn't taxes like food and clothing. Do you have tax on food and clothing i mean that what you really need for your kids right? I am a mother of two and i will be Caucusing for franken. He is standing up for middle and low class family.

  • This hard-working, tax-paying, stay home Mom is completely backing Al Franken for US Senate. Go to his website, listen to this man on the issues. He actually deals with the REAL issues like healthcare and the economy.

  • Nice speech. Too bad if he'll fall into the same lobby pits and turn out like all the other leach politicians.

  • WEAK LIBERAL

  • Comments need to have approval?? C'mon Franken, let us high taxed hard working COMMON SENSE folks speak our mind to you. Ya scared we might WAKE-UP other liberals?

  • we love you al! keep the progressive spirit alive!

  • too bad the progressives were Republicans... Teddy and Taft

  • Oh hey can somebody remind me what happened to the infamous lib Russ Feingold's impeachment bill that was supposed to rid us all of that stupid Nazi fiend Bush?

Oh yeah, I remember ... it failed! Miserably! That was so insignificant that a fart in a hurricane would've made more of an impact.

You libs just never learn. You're losers! All of you! A minority of tiny whining little turd liberals with your heads up your asses.

  • rather be a lib than a con..

  • If I lived in Minnesota, I'd vote for him.

  • Perhaps we're turning the political corner in America...and thank heaven for that! With people like Al Franken & Barack Obama speaking of a vision...not rhetoric and false promises...there may be a future for us!

  • as a european, i often see amaricans like george bush or john bolton and i think " americans must be fucking stupid!"

then i see people like al, i think..."i'm wrong... some americans are clever, some americans do respect the american dream...

some americans will have my support"

  • Finally! A successor for Wellstone. Let's hope he wins!

  • This is the state that voted for Jesse Ventura & he beat Norm Coleman for governor

  • Great video, Al! I may have to move to Minnesota just so I can vote for you. We need your integrity in Washington.

  • go Al! i hope he wins.

  • Don't be jaded, take a chance, vote him in, tbh he's a better public speaker than I've ever seen out of the lot of you.

Can't hurt, America's track record for useful politician's ain't that great.

  • I respect Mr. Frankin for not smearing his opponent. His approach seems very logical and is spoken clearly. No rhetoric. In my humble opinion, we clearly need more citizens to step forward and run for leadership positions.

Best of luck with the campaign, Al.

  • I've always loved this guy... especially on SNL.

However, for the government to literally steal money from us to give to other people is socialism and is not constitutional.

So I dont mind Social Security, but it should be a voluntary thing. Not automatically taken out of our paychecks. Lets follow the constitution!

  • He's so moved by his own speaking that he starts getting choked up, around six minutes in. It's subtle, and he's a practiced speaker, but you can hear it if you listen carefully.

For example, when he says 'government' at 6:13.

  • I love Al Franken! I am very, very proud of you, Al! (my husband just said, "he'd better hire his own aircraft mechanics")You have our deepest gratitude for having the courage to tell some truth. best regards from a fellow northern midwesterner (upper michigan U.P.) lauren waters

  • Very smart and heartfelt. I'll help you however I can.

  • I would vote for him immediately. Great speech.

  • When it comes to political commentary, AL FRANKEN is smart, sharp, and passionate. When the time comes for the senatorial debates, Franken's opponent will certainly be in for quite a battle. I wish Al Franken all the best, in his run for senator of Minnesota.

  • This is the type of person we need in government. Someone who tried to support the government the best way they knew how, then, when that didn't work, stepped up and is trying to take matters into their own hands. Please Minnesotans, Vote for Al Franken!!!

  • I do live in Winona, MN. I'll vote for Al Franken and Tim Walz again.

  • Next year will be the first time I go to the polls feeling ready to kick some ass! Al, you got my vote.

    Jesse Corder, Minneapolis, MN

  • This man must be elected.

  • Isn't Minnesota the state that had the pro-westler for governer? If they are I don't think Fraken has to worry about getting a bad rap for being a comidian.

  • I'm voting for him. Definitely. We may not have the same over all agreements on issues, but he wants change in Washington, and that's what I respect most. Change for the better, change for the middle class.

  • After reading your books, I feel like moving to Minnesota in order to vote for you!

I think very highly of you Mr. Franken! Good luck, and I will be watching your candidacy here from Chicago!

  • Dear Mr. Franken,

In this video, you said that Bush tried to privatize Social Security. Everywhere I've checked indicates that this is not true. Could you or someone else please point me in the direction of some reliable information on this matter?

  • Bush proposes allowing younger workers an option - take a portion of your Social Security contributions and invest it - and this is referred to by Franken (and like minded individuals) as "privatizing Social Security".

I find this terminology to be confusing, deceptive, and weird.

  • When you invest that money, you are investing it into the stock market. The stock market is private business. If we hit a recession, it's going to depreciate your savings. Even if you have an expanded portfolio, a recession that is either big enough or long enough can still affect you, and that's not a risk the government should make you take. As for making it an "option," what will the alternative be?

  • Al I'd definitely vote for you if I lived in Minnesota. Keep up the good fight!

  • I'm sure Franken would do a good job and I believe he's sincere. Good luck, Al.

  • Hes just an extremely sharp man. And he has my vote in 08'.

  • If i livedin MN i would vote for you too AL.

  • Al Franken will more than likely blow Norm Coleman out of the water next year.

  • Yeah, cool, ain't it? ^-^

  • Wish I lived in MN I would vote for ya.

  • Al Franken is the man. We miss you on Air America and hope to see you on CSAPN 2, debunking Republican lies on the senate floor. Go get em AL!

  • Even as a comedian on SNL, Al's main topic used to be politics. He comes across as a man of integrity and social conscience. I sincerely hope he gets elected, and goes on to bigger and better things.

  • Articulate, intelligent, compassionate, passionate. My favorite Al story is how he challenged one of his right wing hecklers to a fight. LOL

  • Go Al Franken!

  • Go Al!

  • Yes, if you don't live in Minnesota, move here just to vote for Al. He will make us all proud to be Americans and Minnesotans again. We'll get back to what the founders meant for this great nation. Because that's what Al believes in.

  • Absolutely agree with this philosophy. Its just common sense. People who would deny their own citizenry essential government services like college grants and healthcare are just hurting their own country. Bush is cutting effective items like Pell grants and Chips, while spending on things like Iraq, "Homeland" bureaucracy and the medicare fraud bill of 2006. The result : less useful services, more poverty and at the same time hundreds of billions in debt.

  • I'm old enough to remember Hubert Humphrey and Franken is his reincarnation. As a native Ranger and now Georgia resident with two sad sacks in the senate I was delighted to make a small contribution to his campaign. If you live in MN get out there and volunteer to send this man to the senate for the benefit of us all.

  • Thank god. Finally someone who will be concerned with helping the country, and making the right decisions, instead of trying only to look good and be re-elected.

  • I am proud to say I am from MN (Brainerd..yes, from the movie Fargo) and I will be voting for Franken. MN is a very progressive state...#1 in public education, great economy...lots of amazing looking blonds of Swedish and German lineage...Anyway, I appreciate how he defines his character, never slings mud as Sen. Colman (who has done nothing for "his" State or his Country except point his finger at the UN...yes, we in MN do pay attention to what our Senators have been up to)

  • AMEN, Brother Franken!!! Here's one Texas voter who wishes you were running in my state. Go get 'em.

  • There is still hope for america with reasonable ppl like Al Franken in the senate.I really hope he will be elected, for the ppl of Minnesota, the U.S. and the rest of the world.

  • Finally, someone's talking about bread and butter issues. I'm happy to see Stuart Smalley, I mean Al Franken running for the Senate! He's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggone it, people like him!

  • Al Franken is definitely a talented comedian, but he also takes things seriously and he's willing to make things better

    He really should become president

  • I wish I lived in Minnesota.

  • I love this man. He makes me want to move to Minnesota just so I can vote for him, but I suppose when he runs for President (and WINS) I'll have my chance. Finally someone who isn't afraid to speak the truth and who wants everyone to succeed. Thank you Al Franken.

  • Al I miss you and your witty informative wisdom on Air America but Tom is doing a great job. Good luck in this pursuit - I hope you win. You stand for truth. That's what I liked about you on the radio. And that's what I will LOVE about you once you are one of our leaders in the Senate. Clean up that mess Al!

  • I think it would be a great statement if Franken campaighned by traveling around Minnesota in Paul Wellstones green and white bus. People remember the bus, and it will remind them of the great man that it was associated with, a couragous hardworking man that fought for the people.

  • Coleman! You're toast.

  • Al Franken: you are the man--Stand and Deliver!

  • Al - Run for president. You're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like you. Just watch the other side attacking you. They love to lie about good, honest people to convince the ignorant to hate.

  • Vote for this man!

  • Good Luck Al. I wish we had you in Ohio.

  • Al Franken stands for truth, prosperity and everything that is good about America. Your Country NEEDS Al Franken first as a Senator, then, eventually as the President. I say your Country, because I am a Canadian. One that is passionate about saving the world from your current administration. Al, you are smart enough, charismatic enough, and gosh, darn it, people like you! Minnesota, please for for Al Franken!

  • Forget the Senate, send this guy to the white house!! we need more people like him who don't take s*** or bribes from anybody!

  • AL

You need to ask George Galloway for permission to run against Coleman.... Because he SOOOOO owns him!!!!!!!!!!!! (youtube galloway at the us senate!)

  • Let's help Mr. Franken get ellected to the U.S. Senate. You don't have to live MN to contribute. There's power in #'s so even a few $'s will help.

He'll surely be an asset to MN as well as the rest of our country!

  • If this guy succeeds, I'm moving to Minnesota. Guess I'll have to start using "eh", eh?

  • ya sure, ya bet cha! Minnesota is the greatest State in the US of A!

  • Franken is the man!! I love his books. He is a humanitarian. He hates corruption. He's honest. He has integrity. He's funny. He's very intelligent. The right-wing fear him. He has brought Coulter, O'Reilly, and FOX news to their knees. I wish you all the luck in the world, Al!!

  • A voice of reason in a cacophany of faulty logic.

  • i too wish we had Al to vote for... (both in california and here in germany) So i will have to make due with my absentee and vote A S again. --- good luck...

  • Franken for President! We need this man so much! Oh, I just saw a funny comment! Ronald and Arnold are actors, remember Bonzo? drbods is quite unstable, maybe I nickname you Iraq.

  • From Wisconsin, but only this one time do I wish I was from the land of 10,00 lakes! Give em Hell, Al!

  • All I can really say is... Al Franken for President!

  • I may move to Minnesota just to vote for Al.

  • Al Franken will one day be president of the United States.

  • I'm not sure Al wants to hear dissenting opinions here. It's free speech if you agree with Al only, I guess.

  • He is a good man.I would vote for him, if I could.

  • Wow, it's interesting how EVERYONE who has posted a comment is seemingly ready to have Franken's love-child. Looks slightly suspicious to me...

  • Al, I love you! It's about damn time you did this!!!!

  • I feel like moving form SLC to Minnesota.

  • Excited to see this come to fruition, we need citizens like Al Franken in the Senate. This is a man who is a the top of his professional game, who has decided to take a different path and secure the legacy of his friend, one of the most compitent Senators this nation has ever seen and protect his nation while he's at it.

  • Drbods,

    Ronald Reagan was an actor!

  • You go Al!!! I wish you were from NY!

  • Al I'm very upset that you never posted my comments even if they were good ones. I'm aways defending you against people who don't like you. So please post my comments.

  • there are many here that aren't complete idiots. they just don't make as interesting television or create sensational opportunities to slam the US. You may want to spend a little more time observing something other than the Bush Administration and sound bites and watch what is really happening here in the grassroots.

  • Minnesotans will vote for him. They vote for wrestlers too.

  • I like it. Worth repeating:

    Gore/Obama 2008

    Obama/Franken 2016

  • I really wish I had an Al Franken to vote for here in Texas

  • FRANK-EN! FRANK-EN! FRANK-EN!

someone for the love of god get this man in the white house.

  • hell yea, that was pretty good, and Im a republican. Id vote for Al.

  • Hi powederwrecker, No hate-filled comments, but I do suggest that you read The Communist Manifesto, if you are going to compare people to communists. I do not think that a reasonable number of strong social programs should be compared to the complete abolishon of private capital ownership. I would also note, that while Marx was way off on communism, he was not so wrong about laissez-faire capitalism.

  • minnesota, don't be stupid, elect this man.

  • Love ya Al. Good luck.

  • Al verbally creamed Bill O'Reilly at the American Booksellers Convention on C-Span, was that Molly Ivans (recently deceased) who was with them? Gosh I miss her. Go get em Al. We need snarkier reps in DC anyway. Didn't watch that Stuart movie of yours, it was on, but well it seemed kind of dumb. I guess I was in a mood that day. Big fan since the first SNL days.

  • This is just a stunt to drive ratings and get attention.

  • A typical lefty. Why do actors/comedians think they can be politicians? Talk about fixing everything thats wrong and never can or never do. Then again the left always lie to get what they want. Vote for Al and rivers will be flowing with chocolate, the war will stop and everyone in the world will hold hands. Ann Coulter is right when she said Al Franken is one of the people who are screwing up america!

  • now I'm going to be torn from voting in ohio or minnesota.

  • great

  • Good luck, Al. I wish I still lived in Bloomington so I could vote for you.

  • Minnesota! Represent! .. Born n Raised.. dont live there anymore, but I loved it there when I did.

  • ha i agree : (

  • i assume you mean bush...he is a moron. they should really have a disclaimer flashing across the bottom of the screen in big red letters that says "WARNING: 73% OF THE COUNTRY DOES NOT AGREE WITH WHAT THIS PERSON IS SAYING. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY CONFUSION". i think that would work out well.

  • I think he can get elected...very intelligent and actually honest.

  • Congrats.

  • Exelent video, the world needs more people like him in politics. Wish I had someone like him to vote for.

  • life is not as easy as you want it to be. you do need to pull up your boot straps and do the best that you can in this world. if you don't have boots, make some. why do democrats think that everything should be handed to them? the america that democrats want sounds like communism to me, but that is just me. i'll be expecting your hate-filled comments.

  • You'll be expecting hate-filled comments? Why?

  • No hate today!! Not even your flame bait could ruin my mood. Today is a great day. Hugs and kisses.

  • By "bootstraps" we mean "hard work" and by "boots" we mean "jobs". If you're a housewife and you're husband dies it's not so certain that you can get an employment right away let alone start your own business.

And I promise you, the US is probably the least communist land on the planet. With an effective two party system your right and your left will never stray too far away from the other.

  • I don't have a license to kill a rabbit to make the leather for making my own boots.

  • "If you don't have boots, make some."

You know, Marie Antoinette said, "Let them eat cake" when informed that the people didn't have wheat/flour. Your comment comes a close second. Is that hate-filled enough for you?

  • i think you have communism confused with socialism. Socialist countries by the way just topped the list of countries that best take care of their children according to an extensive study done by Unicef on child well-being in rich countries...guess where the US placed? second to last. that's right. 20th out of 21 countries. Shame...

  • Put a link up will you re best care of children - thx. Perhaps you would be an american who will benifit by leaving your Democratic country and living in a socialist/communist regime...that is the best way to learn the difference...of course some people work these things out comparing everything possible ...way to go I think. If you don't like it, leave it.

  • What exactly is the government there for, then? Are they supposed to use the mass resources that they have to just watch poor people eek their way through life? You can't make bootstraps if you have nothing. And this comment isn't hate-filled, I'm pretty sure all Americans want the best for their nation. It's just that we all have different ideas on how to do it.

  • Do give us a link to where you have studied this...thx. Small point - America pays more for education than it does for it's military, look it up. The quick definition of democracy is that the people look after themselves...not the goverment, that's socialism. You all must be very young and uninformed-try working. I have never been without work, and have had a good life.

This was a good question-a non democracy might be best for some of you.

  • America pays less for education than the military - and I did look it up. The definition of democracy has nothing to do with "look after themselves". There are some similarities to socialism, communism, fascism, etc. That is definitely not a definition of "Democracy", especially the way it is in the US.

  • As if the Republican farmers could survive without subsidies. Let's take those subsidies away, I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of rural conservatives vanish.

  • "why do democrats think that everything should be handed to them? the america that democrats want sounds like communism to me..."

Listen to what he's saying. People just need a little push sometimes, then they'll do the rest themselves, not have everything "handed to them."

  • What did you do to pull up your boot straps?

Drank a lot in college while daddy paid the bill? We're impressed, really.

  • Dems want to help out the little guy (Repulicans call them Mythical Little Guy) and Republicans want Welfare for Corporations. Why is it that they are never responsible for themselves? I was always told to clean u
