The person you´re talking about has posted on the BIS forums a while ago, though. Apparently the Ideas they had weren´t implemented quite as nicely as they had envisioned.
Big difference is, though, no radial menu. Anything like that, especially when multi-layered, is just clumsy to use, as OF:DR proves.
Hehe, yeah, I've also read his posts on the BIS forums, saw that this is also a 2D animation and thought there might be more to it.
Well, I don't know what you do for a living, but it's probably a good sign when people confuse your work with that of a person who makes his money with this stuff. Certainly looking forward to how this will develop.
And I agree, a radial menu seems rather cumbersome, especially when it comes to managing a lot of commands (but I'm only a end user, no pro...).
I fancy myself an artist/designer, most of the time :p
And I´ve not found a game with a radial menu that was comfortable to use. For example, the one in Crysis has as its saving grace that it´s only a single layer, not 10 billion as in OF:DR. The number system Arma uses is better, because all you need to do is remember numbers, not directions.
After watching your Ambush FTvsSQ video, I can see how things should be far more streamlined if possible.
As you know, you can currently split your team into groups (red, blue, etc.), but a more realistic implementation is certainly desirable as long as there's still a way to order individuals about. I'll be interested in what conclusions you come up with.
Cool idea, but modded GUIs in Arma2 are invariably slow, and linking it to orders is a pain, unfortunately. I agree that it's not the greatest as it is, but as a seasoned player, it allows so much and remembering commands is less problematic the more you play.
I´ve been with the OFP series since the game was released in 2001, so I have to agree that when you know it, it´s a pretty powerful command tool. But I think, especially with Arma 2´s new AI, it´s much too cluttered and in need of a more simple and realistic replacement, commanding fireteams instead of individual soldiers, as in this example.
I agree that mods are no solution, though. I´m planning to dev this a little further, and see what the official forums say about it.
Give this to me...I wants is noW! pls i beg of you!

Are you the guy who worked for CM a while ago and made the GUI concept video for DR that kinda leaked?
Just asking because it looks like the vid was made the same way. :)
