hi there i've been stringing for a while now and when your beginning to tension off the first two mains u pull both strings and u clamp off one of them. do you have any tips to prevent it from slipping other then tightening the clamp. Because too tight and u strangle the string and to loose and it shaves the outer layer of the string
The way you have started to string the mains in this video..... is this the correct or best way for 1 and 2 piece string jobs, or is it just for 2 piece?
it's just that I think i've seen other videos where people string one side of the mains first.
@MidnightEDJK This is the correct way. Stringing one side of the mains before stringing the other is bad for the frame and is a practice avoided by professional stringers.
this is probably a stupid question.. but im just about to start stringing so i dno anything bout it.. but.. when u release the tension.. why does ur clamp move?? does that mean its releasing some of the tension?
@YULitle oh, 1 more question if you dont mind.. how hard is it to make a living from just stringing? is it possible if ur a good fast stringer? eg.. factory stuff or even big tourny work?
Hi YULitle! For some reason when I set my anchor clamp, and then pull tension to set the first clamp after the anchor, sometimes the string will 'slip' through the anchor while I am tensioning. Thankfully enough this has only happened so far stringing with polys where it isn't a problem, but I would hate to have this happen when I am stringing my racquet with gut. Do you know of any way I could solve this problem?
@mikeblair333 One thing is setting a starting clamp behind the anchor (fixed) clamps. This is something highly recommended for polys since there's a huge initial force to overcome due to poly's lack of elasticity. So using this video as example, pull both mains like YULittle does, set your fixed clamp like he does and also put a starting clamp on the outside part of the racquet at the throat on the string closest to him.
At the beginning when you pull both strings at once to set an anchor clamp, would that technique work on a drop weight like the alpha pioneer dc plus?
I'm trying to hybrid my new dunlop Mfil 200 plus, but it has proved impossible thus far. Do you happen to know anything about this racquet that would make stringing it easier? I use floating clamps, but my old racquets had an odd number on the throat which was pretty easy. This one has even numbers on the throat, so do you have any idea how I would go about stringing this using floating clamps?
Well, you can't have an odd number of grommets in the throat so I can only assume that you mean an odd amount of paired grommets. In this case, just reverse the way you do the one racquet on the other. Instead of starting at the throat you'll be starting at the head. Should be the same either way you look at it.
I have a question. why do you pull 2 string at once in the beginning with no clamps attached to either string??
In other words, is it wrong to clamp one string at the beginning, pull tension on the other unclamped string, then clamp that string. Then pull tension on the first clamped string, and continue on? Hopefully that makes sense.
Sorry I didn't express myself correctly. Is this way you do prevent from scratches on strings surface? Because I am having some problems on my first clamp when I start my string job the first clamp scratches the strings, sometimes I over-tightened it other it scratches a little bit. Thank you again
AND, I'm NOT tensioning the first two in the center at once, really. I let them both go and tension them both individually after I set my clamp. It is not wrong to just set the clamp first.
Is it wrong tensioning the first two in the center at once. So not letting them go, but clamping the anchor and the string opposite the anchor, and then continuing from there. The tension should be OK on both main center strings I.M.O., even if you pull them at the same time.
just wondering if you know this coz i dont. am i best to use natural or synthetic gut on the mains. and another type for example babalot pro hurricane tour on the crosses? or use the same for mains and crosses. its the first time im gettin my racket re-stringed you see.
It all depends on your personal preference. My advice is to try out a couple of different setups, and pick the one that suits your game the best. If you're a string breaker, I suggest using a full poly setup (or poly in the mains, and a softer string in the crosses). Good poly's are Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power, Babolat Pro Hurricane (Tour), Signum Pro Poly Plasma, ... .
If you don't break strings that often, I would go for a good multifilament (Tecnifibre X-One Biphase, Gamma Professional, Wilson KGut, ...) or natural gut (Babolat VS Team or Touch, Pacific Tough Gut, ...). Just remember that natural gut gets destroyed by moist. The cheapest option is Synthetic Gut (Prince Synthetic Gut with Duraflex, Gosen OG Sheep Micro, ...). These are truly great allround strings for a very good price.
I personally have never tried Dunlop strings, so I can't say anything about them. All I know is that they are not used much (I don't know any pro player who uses them), and that Dunlop isn't known for its strings, but more for their rackets.
Thanks very much for these videos. They're extremely helpful. One quick question, is it wrong to start by putting a swivel clamp (anchor clamp) in the middle of the frame and then pull tension on the other main?
Yes, you should have the swivel clamps as close to the frame as possible. If you do not, you will be pulling more than one string at a time, which is bad.

what do you mean by setting tension inside the clamp?

Most people that I know who do this "professionally" have to do something else on the side (i.e. run/own a tennis shop)

@rspr1vates3rv3rs This is natural, some clamps do this more than others but they all do it.

What's the function of a T-Bar on a machine like the Tecnifibre TF7000. Do you have to put the string under the T, or doesn't it matter?

You said that if you have 6 grommets at the bottom, you should start at the bottom. I always start at the top, is this a problem?
KerryTennis 3 years ago
Yes... But, I feel you either are not sure as to what starting at the top means, or you've miss-counted somehow.

the prince neos 100 is the manual one right not the 3000 for the electronic.
If i were planning on buying a prince neos or a gamma 5003 is there a store or website i can perchase it atfor a good overall price?

is the gamma 5003 6 point manual machine a good machine to buy

I've never used it. It looks alright. I'd rather get the Prince Neos 1000.

This does help to reduce scratching on the string, but I'm not sure if it will help your over tightening. It's worth trying to see though.

Hello Why do you tension the first 2 strings at once?
Is it wrong to place the anchor clamp and then tension the other string? Do you think this way stress the string too much? thabk you

It's to set the tension "inside" the clamp.
