  • Thank you for the old one. Very nice. Thanks to sessnazx for sharing.

  • Anyone else here from Athlone? :) This song almost brings a tear to my eye.

  • My grandmother can still remember McCormack sing live in Dublin at the Eucharistic Congress in 1932

  • Beggo321, That must have been a wonderful concert-to have been there!!!! Thank you for watching and sharing.

    Regards, J.

  • I never heard a John McCormack performance I didn't like, and this one is no exception. Strangely, although I am a veteran record collector, I don't recall ever hearing McCormack singing this before now. So I doubly thank you for sharing it.

  • Meltzerboy, Thank you for your kind words. I'm very pleased you enjoyed it.

  • As another veteran collector, I'm in the same boat as you! This is one of the few McCormacks that had hitherto eluded me completely.

[FXM-R's discography gives 10 December 1919 as the recording date.]

  • Saltburner2, I've never thought of a McCormack disc are being on the rare side considering his popularity. This is on of my most favored McCormack recordings in mt collection. Thank you for the recording date. I've added it to the descriptive on the right.

    Regards, J

  • Hey all,

    another bit of useless information.

John Count McCormack was born in Athlone. So I guess he's singing about his home town!!

  • Darrankillian, Yes on the 14th of June in 1884 I believe. Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoyed the recording.

    Regards, J.

  • The kind of simple piece that McCormack does so well! TY John!

  • CanadaPisces, Thank you, Im pleased you enjoyed it.

    Regards, J.

  • Hi, not gone on McCormack singing but it is the first time I've heard this song and I do like. "To the Thumble -Down Shack In Athlone". Did you know Fuzz that Athlone is a town in the enter of Ireland just 20 min drive from my town (Tullamore). Totally different place back in McCormack's time.

  • Acadia23, (Sorry for the delay in responding) I'm pleased you enjoyed it-it is a charming song-it has become on of my favorites. I did not realize that Athlone is in the center of Ireland. I'm sure much of Ireland is a very different place even from when I visited back in '73! I so hope to visit again someday. I'll have to ask my father if he's ever been to Tullamore. Thanks for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • Really beautiful.

  • The Recording is, "A Little Love, A Little Kiss".

  • Cvwtzhaar, I'm not familiar with that one off the top of my head, I'll have to dig through the stacks and see if I have a copy myself. ;-)

    Regards, J.

  • It's lovely song, made lovelier by McCormack. I believe Jeanette MacDonald also recorded it.

  • Great recording,I just bought a John McCormack 78 from 1913

  • Cvwtzhaar, Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Which McCormack recording did you get?

    Regards, J.

  • I could listen to this kind of music for hours. Wonderful videos! Thank you.

  • Tim, Thank you so much for your kind words. I love being able to share-even in this small way-some of my collection.

    Regards, J.

  • Tom, Thank you so much.

  • Great McCormack song! Aren't there any squirrels in your living room, John? :-)

  • He denies the presence of squirrels. I tried to coax one in, but apparently it was afraid of John's cat...although I've heard a few good squirrel stories about the ones residing in our neighborhood from him.

  • Rocky, Havoc would be jealous!

    YF, J.
