I have a Garmin Nuvi. The biggest piece of shit I've ever bought. Constanty freezing up plus the suction holder only lasts a few months before it drops off. I won't be buying another.
Thanks for the reviews and feedback. I'm looking to buy GARMIN nüvi 1490T but what I'm concern about the map and smart routes. Unlike Googlemap's Navigation, I've been using Googlemap's Nav on my Andriod phone and it works great. It shows map even when you're in apartment complex area. The only problem is it's quite small and slow so this is why I'm looking for the full function GPS device. But which brand?
@austpom333 Thanks mate! Comparison between Garmin Nuvi to TomTom's map, I've found Garmin Nuvi's map is much superior in details and pleasing to the eyes. Garmin Nuvi's map comes quite close to Google's map which I might purchase. I am currently have Navigon 2100(out dated). I did a test route against Google's Navigation. Google's Nav auto route was much better but lacks in features of course, like speed limit/display/warning. Anyway, Thank you in advance.
@djhinrg It's all coming back to Garmin as a GPS unit. They are the first to release a truck GPS in Australia and that is good for safety. I am told that google maps isnt realy the go. The software on my garmin freezes ( probably uses windows software ) and isnt reliable enough. The Garmin recommendation is from someone else
Thanks for this. I have been juggling up for a few months now which to get. People leave so many bad reviews on each and everyone of the systems, it's hard to choose which one sounds the least worse!
But people will always find problems with everything. I've used a TomTom before, and found it to be great. My nokia phone came with free GPS, which served me well for about 2 years. But now it looks as though it's time to upgrade to this unit.
Don't rely on any GPS when driving, although they are better than nothing. If i had to get a new GPS i would purchase a garmin, the cumpas on this model is good, you can also find out the street your on ( good when you need to find where you are on a road map ) always keep a road map with you .
I have this exact GPS device. With the swivel ball coming out what i did is put a bit of lubrication on it and that helped by making it turn easier and not causing you to pop it out. The nice things about it are that you can select a station on it and you turn your truck radio to that station and it transmitts your directions through your truck speakers. also you can upload music to it and also play your own playlist through your vehicles speakers. Thanks
My Garmin died about seven months ago - im now using a Navman probably with better results

I am going to purchase a cheap spare GPS unit because the Garmin software keeps freezing to the point where i cant even turn it off.

Actually, go for the Garmin 1490T with the BIGGER 5" screen. A lot more screen size for your buck
