This was a great program, and fulfilled everything that NBC asked of it, except that it was not a money maker. About the only thing that now even comes close to this in 2009 is Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.
Agreed. Linda and Bill's intellect in comparison to KO's grey matter is a comparison of the sizes of Jupiter vs Mercury.
And L&B have a sense of humor. KO has none, which is the ultimate indictment of a self-important fool.

"They want to run their game shows instead of our game show." Classic ... and prophetic as tv news has devolved into nothing more substantial than game show since this aired. I used to watch Overnight all the time and was angry when NBC pulled the plug ... more than 25 years later, it's great to see so many others fondly recall this class act as I do.
NBC Overnight is fondly remembered for the tangy vinegar that flavored its stories and studio anchor bits. Clearly, regular network news has been dumbed down on CBS, NBC and ABC and turned into an electronic carnavel at Fox and CNN. And this great clip again provides evidence that the Presidency has also been dumbed down even lower. Back in the mid 1980's, who would have thought that to have been possible.
