This is a wake up call to MLB to quickly require catchers better safety gear to protect their heads and necks. Perhaps a hockey goalie-type headgear would help preventable injuries or perhaps save a life.

These plays at home are impacts equal to a head on with a concrete wall.

MLB, get it together and do something, anything, to protect these guys. It's not like a helmet would really cut into your profits that much....

Doesn't matter if he loses the ball. The runner lowered his shoulder and plowed over the catcher. By rule, that is malicious contact, and the runner is out and ejected. Read the rule. That's how it works. Of course, being an umpire, that means I know more about the rules than you.
