think i saw the address somewhere..you're over in pennsauken across the tac-palmyra. i grew up boxing in philly and now train fighters in asia...send me your email man, would be cool to trade some material.
@NextTime4U I'm a Detroit native and used to go to the Kronk Gym and hang out there (not a boxer), I've seen Emmauel Steward, Teddy Atlas, and Freddie Roach up close, and I say you are the most articulate trainer I've ever seen and heard....FLAT OUT!
So like, when I throw a punch with my left hand in Orthodox Stance do I have to pivot my left foot or do I just turn the left part of my body like up to my ankle?
This is an amazing vid bro...i only recently started boxing but i have to say that ive taken alot from this, thank you...Oh yeah turning over my elbow when throwing the jab and the straight...am i not suppose to lock my elbow even when throwing the straight?
Coach Rick I was just wondering y do some fighters throw the jab with a snap if they can hyperextend there elbow doing it? I mean they have to kno right they are pros or at least some of em who do it are.
@Rapist87 Thank you and yes they do, in fact I have shipped several hundred to various locations in the UK over the past few months.. It takes about a week to get to you and I do not charge for shipping...
coach your are right about turning the jab over, I calculated a gain of 6 inches. if any brotha should be skeptical, obstinate and ignorant. remember a cuban fighter will reach you with the right hand. review Kevin "big man" Burnett's fight with Odlanier Solis Teddy Atlas was pleading with him not to throw the short jab he did and was gone in 6. had he used the long jab it would have protected his chin by the shoulder rollin into the chin stopping the punch. plus giving some reach.thanks coach
The "Twist Punch" that you show a the jab--the "pouring the cup" punch (terrific instruction on its execution, btw) has been a mainstay of martial arts for thousands of years. However,I've never seen it taught with the specifics and the performance wavelengths acquired by your training method.Madd props mybrutha! Welldone as usual.
Greay work as always i like the walk oof, i didn't know that was the technical term for it, i've been doin that instinctively for a long time anyways thx for posting your vid.
nice mitt work there. I like how you added defense in there....I'm going to try that jab technique with the thumb turned over more today in the gym and see how it feels.
Good stuff Coach Rick. I'll be checking out more of your stuff.
I love the pivot demo also...I'm still trying to get my wife to understand that so when I have her on mitts she can get her shots off smoother when I turn her and make her move. she wanted to learn boxing and kickboxing so i'm teaching her.
@MrKeepnit100 - are you thinking of Muay Thai or MMA? In professional boxing there are no knee attacks
In MT or MMA yes, you will be vulnerable to a knee strike if you dip low, lean forward or make a pronounced roll. If your opponent sees that this is a 'go to' move for you they will bait you into rolling and then have a knee or a round kick on its way for you. I know because I have had my nose broken this exact way; I still roll but not EVERY time, because you get setup like that
@NextTime4U Progress report: All good. Jabs, straight rights and even my clean up hooks feel a lot smoother and fluid releasing it since I turn the thumb over more along with the right hand. It took me a few weeks to erase my old style but I got it. Nice.
I actually got more range off my right straight and hooks by turning that thumb over plus it just feels clean...I'm getting in more snapping power off the technique alone vs. how I used to muscle through my shots like I used to. Props
@500348 This is the proper way to throw a jab. Rolling the shoulder at the end also protects the chin from a overhand or looping right hook. Nice technical Rick
Coach rick, Great videos. I watch them right before I hit the gym I have a question, Im only '5'10 and weigh around 235- 240 ( relatively lean) So that puts me in the heavweights even when I do diet down the lowest Ive gone down to is 215, My question is that
How do I land those jab against a taller fighter! its frustrating trying to come to rip on the body, when there jabs keep flicking at me.
Ive watched alot of Jack Demspey, Tyson, David Tua, marciano trying understand how the proper tec
great video coach, love the way youre really into the one on one sessions, alot of trainer are lazy and dont really give there fighters that extra attention that they need and should be getting
@NextTime4UMan i do boxing for a year and it still is terrible. I have to fully strectch my hands because i'm long and keep my hands next to my head but it is fucking hard! Do you know any way for me to learn that? Because i always forget it :(
Terrific videos, Rick. Definitely enjoy watching you work the mitts with your fighters. You might consider using a wireless lavalier microphone so your viewers can better hear what you're saying to your fighters.
