  • Great memories from the 60's, thanks!!!

  • This is not Jan And Dean!

  • @enkidu1936 Oh gee, really? You just found that out? You're about 115 comments too late.

  • I saw this movie when it came out in 1964. I was 10 years old and the close-ups of the guys on their surfboards did not look so horribly phony as they do today. I'm glad for that.

I did not remember who played the character "Eskimo" and when I watched this clip, I thought I saw Robert Mitchum on a surfboard! Turns out it was his son James Mitchum, but what a resemblance! And hey, is Susan Hart cute or what!!!

  • I wish they would do a remake of the movie,

  • Growing up in SoCal in the 60's I was INUNDATED with surf culture. I spent most summers at Huntington Beach and San Clemente. I was poor and Mexican so I couldn't afford a surfboard, but I was an avid bodysurfer and boogie-boarder. The punk-ass "locals" (white boys) thought they owned the place. The chicks were stuck-up. Add to that the music that was copied to DEATH.So when Jimi came along and said, "You'll never hear surf music again" I was right there with him!! I will always love the ocean

  • @jimistreets1 hell i'm white and i remember going to huntington beach in '75. they were so stuck up and concieded, and all blond hair, and so i only stayed about 2 minutes, and drove to dana point instead, where they were much friendlier and more fun!

  • @m1kewithaone Yup! After the age of about 13 I went almost exclusively to San Clemente. Dana Point is really nice too. At Scumington, even in the mid-70's there were wanna-be "surf-thugs"', which we used to just laugh at. Now the punks actually carry guns! One thing has remained constant ever since the 60's...the girls are FREEKING STUPID!!

  • @jimistreets1 lol! i haven't been to the beach in years now, but i just go to venice and santa monica and i like manahtan bch, because after about 11:30pm, you can take your dogs and let them run loose and the cops don't care.

  • this was such a great cute movie!

  • watch this skip the film...I have this single with a great sleeve (see it at RAY's Juke-box on FB)

  • Did any of the actors in this movie know how to surf? I just don't know why they don't do a remake of this movie.with all the rmakes they do with the same movies. did this movie not do well?

  • @grandmarazz well, i was only 9 when i saw it, and it did well for me. i've always remembered this song, that's why i'm here tonight. ... did they re-make any surfer movies? i don't know...

  • Outstanding ! Thanks for putting together.

  • Thank You

  • I know you are right but I have this fear of the water . as a kid my Mom took me for swimming lesson and I was doing good untiluntil we got this yong punk who should never should have try to teach any kid. Anywayhe toss me into the deep end and I freak out and when he got me out of the water I came out swinging. I guess I had a panic attack, don't know if I will ever get over the fear of the water.

  • Great job! You can't beat olfd Hollywood technique to pull off reality. Like the old sci- fi movies only better!

Jan and Dean's song is timeless though!

  • go, go tsumani

  • would love to see a remake of this movie with the same people if they are still around.

  • @grandmarazz it wouldn't look the the same riding the surf with a walking frame. Only joking.I was surfing at that time, and I still ride my antique" Plastic Machine" board.

  • @winterka100 Can't swim to save my life but after seeing this movie I wish that I could swim. the surfers make it look so easy to surf.. I always think who I would like to see as in this movie.. I ask myself do any of those acters know how to surf or did they get pick for this movie because they look good in swiming trunks (LOL)

  • @grandmarazz Swimming is easy to learn, you can get lessons watever your age. Once you know how, you will wish you had done it sooner. Not only will it open up so much fun, it may save your life, or you may save someone else's. Also then you can learn to surf. It's not all that difficult. Don't just sit there, DO IT!

  • GREAT job with this video! I always did like the way they did the credits at the end - but the way you mixed it with clips, etc - was cool! thanks for helping bring back the memories of this movie

  • I'm so proud you said DOLORES, not Delores.

  • This is really below what Jan and Dean are capable of doing in my opinion.

  • Love this

  • This movie was on AMC last year........I want to see all of it!

  • Love the song AND the movie - GREAT job on this video! Thanks

  • Wonder if all these big name stars could actually surf...m aybe ONE?if not the real surfers in Hawaii got to make a few dollars? James Mitchum is Robert Mitchum's son, also was in "Thunder Road". Supper prayer: Good food good meat, It's late, LET'S EAT!

  • thats what they said - cant match the savvy surfers at waimea bay .

  • 0:43 "see the piss"

  • Great 60's surfing film, rare and seldom seen on TV. Very good surfing footage at the end - of some the world's best surfer's of the day riding the really big monster waves!

  • HAHAHAHA

so dang cheesy! Was this ever called high tech??

  • This would have been a perfect post if the original soundtrack was used & not a retread...Still not too late to remake.......Excellent video, but.......RIP Jan Berry.....

  • @fran9860

    @fran9860

Uh, I think everybody here realizes that. Including me, and I made the video. A little late to the party are we? Never you mind though. Now, if you would learn to red the comments you wouldn't be here telling everybody something they've known for months. Now get that right.

  • @fran9860 ... Up there's .. fran.... Thanks for an an excellent production.... it has what the idiots don't understand..... FLAVOR!!! Ride ON... Sincerely, Daniel Carrooo, Sunset Beach, CA 90742

  • @fran9860 ... Up there's .. fran.... Thanks for an an excellent production.... it has what the idiots don't understand..... FLAVOR!!! Ride ON... Sincerely, Daniel Carrooo, Sunset Beach, CA 90742... Robt Mitchum's kid is a spittin image of the great one!

  • @fran9860 ... Excellent and Thank You.. -:)

  • I'm stoked!

  • ..... what wonderful work you've done and thanks so much, Sincerely, Danny Carroll

  • Que mal las escenas sobrepuestas.La musica regular

  • Great song but dont' buy or rent the movie! The movie sucks big time!

its not even a b movie!

  • I just love these old "teen" movies, where everybody's actually older, and anyone can tell they aren't really even in the waves!! Gotta love it.

  • I wish I could freeze Fabian's face here and look at it all day because he was so fine!!!!

  • Fabian was a doll!

  • Fabian Fabian Fabian Baby! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  • "Skills and courage unknown" what away of putting just what surfing 30 ft waves

has to be about... RIDE ON!

  • I love the fact that Tab Hunter was 33 years old when he did this. Lol. Fabian, meanwhile, was 21. x

  • Thanks sooooo much!!!

  • Great !!!

  • That's the late surfing legend,Mickey Dora doing the actual surfing.

  • surfers are about 35 or so

  • 9'-6" Interisland Surf Shop, 16 yrs. old, what sharks? hahaha...what memories.

  • This seems to be a rather secondary, somewhat obscure version of this great song. The original, authentic released J & D version is far superior ... great footage from the movie however ...

  • good music, better than the shit im subjected to these days

  • Great movie and great song.

Those were the years of cool songs, surf and the best of times.

    Please send me back.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Susan Hart is not a nun, Dolores Hart is. Susan married the head of AIP Pictures and later ran the company when he died.

  • @BeaSish

You are correct. It was Dolores Hart. You can find out more about her on my Movie Blog, Clyde's Movie Palace under the film Where The Boys Are.

  • @clydesplace -- Most guys have heard the classic break-up lines such as "Can we just be friends?" and "I need my space." I can only imagine how the guy engaged to Dolores Hart felt when he got hit with "I've decided to become a nun." (I've read that they're still "good friends.")

  • @BeaSish She's Hot ! Or at least was .....

  • r u serious

  • shes much better looking than liv tyler doesnt have that steven tyler mouth

  • to speeddeed4356 appreciate that speed-a nun!!!!!!!!!!

too beautiful. anywhere i can see updated photos of her in nun costume. fascinating.

this aussie is thankful 4 reply hey.

  • does anybody know what happened to the beautiful susan hart?? the brunette girl that does the slinky dance scene on the beach in hawaiin costume. she still alive and well?

    appreciate any replies thanx.

  • Susan Hart is alive & well as of last year. Give up acting i believe not to long after this flim, to give her Heart to Bigger things she became a Nun,in Europe,& still does charitys out here in Los Angles.Still looks Pretty as ever! Was in Valley News Paper last year. Hope this helps?

  • Barbara Eden as a readhead and Shelly Fabares as a blonde: It's bizarro world. And Fabian was prettier than either of them.

  • thats not JAN AND DEAN.; A 70's remake

  • inside the bad actor's studio

  • Susan Hart resembles Liv Tyler. Don't you think?

  • Real music.

    Real surf.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • Surf girl surf

    For Jewels <3

  • In '63 I converted my grandmother's wooden ironing

board using my metal wheeled skates. Two wheels in

the front, six across the back. Extremely noisy and

lacked any lateral coefficient of friction, so it was like ball bearings on ice. Later converted it to a snowboard

with a rug screwed onto the top and added a one inch skeg. Worked great and I still have it.

  • Somehow my dad heard about skateboards in 1963. Came home from work and tore up our skates to make our first. Later I got one with the clay wheels and it was a death trap. Everything got stuck in them and you'ld go flying off over the top of the thing. And no weenie helmets in those days. First skateboard championship ever: LaPalma Park, Anaheim, CA. Dang, I was riding mine when my mom came outside to tell me Ruby shot Oswald.

  • lol

  • I didn't pay for my first skateboard because they weren't yet in stores; I took steel wheels of my roller skates and nailed them to a board; we called the commercial versions "store-bought bastards" because for a long time it wasn't cool to ride a skateboard you hadn't made yourself

  • DAMN! You had Roller Skates? Yeah, you Damn rich- folk anyway........

  • Yes, my steel wheels skateboard did not work well at all. My friend Skip had an older sister. He "took" her skates, we removed the wheel portions, cut them in half(one pair for him, one pair for me).

We cut out our own boards, screwed on the wheels, and that's it. Except for one thing. We didn't put the wheels on straight. We learned how to skateboard real good on "ours". But when we got on a store bought one, we could not control it. The wheels were too "straight". LOL.

  • Great music and a great way of life.

Times were better when Jan & Dean sang songs like this.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I've been riding the wild surf of LIFE. Didn't get dumped, actually came out of the white wash with a new sense of self mastery!

  • Fun all summer long, cool man

  • I grew up in the 60's and well remember the surf fever back then. For us with no oceans, they came up with the skateboard. Sidewalk surfing was huge with us kids. I paid $4 for my first one in 1965-it had steel wheels! Lucky I survived.

I couldn't afford the expensive clay wheels version, it was $8. It was a fever for a couple years, at least.

  • Fortunately I couldn't afford the four bucks and my homemade efforts were pathetic. I saved the broken bones for dirt bikes...

  • Once you get the hang of it (and aren't too much scared of the wave), it's fun...

  • yeah but theres no way it can be like an "addiction"... cigaretes and drugs and alcahol are addictions... not SURFING ! :-)

  • Jan & Dean were on track to become the Monkees before there was (or were?) a Monkees. Jan's accidents (train and car) kept them from fulfilling their TV show, motion picture and recording plans that were already in motion.

    {Click BB45s for Jan & Dean and Beach Boys playlists}

  • Just for information: This isn't the original recording by Jan&Dean but a later version done by Dean Torrnece and other musicians. jan Berry quite surely had nothing to do with this recording

  • Still a bitchin' treatment of the song!

  • You have to have been there. Nothing like it ever. Find your soul. It's not about just danger. It's about finding your soul.

  • Beautiful...you summed up with surfing why i stll drag race! :-D

  • These beach movies were simply soft porn for the 50s/60s. Nothing much has changed.

  • Dear astra.,

    Yes you are absolutely right.

    .

One only has to think of that television series Baywatch to realise that the ninteen-fifties movies are exactly the same style soft porn, as you say.

    cheers.

  • I haven't seen any of these films but a little research shows that beach movies lasted from 1963 through 1967, not the fifties. (NOTE BEFORE I GET REPLIES: The first Gidget movie was in 1959 with sequels in 1961 and 1963 but all the Frankie/Annette and various copies started in 1963 with Beach Party).

  • Dear Gnilob.,

Thanks for your response to my coment.

    .

I've made a note of your good tips, and corrections.

    .

    Thank you very much.

    cheers.

  • Outstanding ! Beautiful women and good music from a time when the standard of beauty and quality was much higher...

  • Wasn't Murray Rose an Olympic swimmer back in the 60's??

  • Great song from the 60's! Thanks for the post!

  • luv it, great video compilation ... time to hit the big wave at Santa Cruz and hang 10, see ya ,)

  • Take me back...and leave me there! ;-)

  • How fun. Just purchased this "album" from a thrift store. Did not recognize any of the Stars until viewing here. Neat that wjb4341 went to school with the stars. Life is great.

  • HEY HOTSHOT ! ! ---- YOUR O.K.!

  • Really Good Movie

60's was best in Top 40 Music.

    L.A. Radio Bring it back.

    70'S DISCO MUSIC NOT OLDIES.

  • This movie and endless summer #1, got me surfing back in the 60's, and I'm still surfing.. cowabunga!!!! It's the greatest!

  • Nice video, particularly the actual surfing footage at the end.

  • Jan Berry, Dean Torrence and James Mitchem .... classmates at Uni High in West LA 1955-1958.

  • whooo I didnt no that fabion had a great body musules and that tony melbourne australiA

  • Gotta take that one...last...ride! :)

  • Jmes Michum at 00:28. Looks just like his dad Robert.

  • hahahahahahahaha

  • Some can't understand water babies. They do notrealize some of our ancestors passed through the mediterranean, and climbed through the passes on up to the high European glaciers, and then crossed by ships to America, and now the ICE melted and thier babies...are sand babies and water babies!!!

Understand?! Greeks understood many things, Romans laid the foundations in stone, and Easterns brought their heat and set all on fire for greater causes.

    Isn't is swell? Get it?

  • Movie was only note worthy for a fairly decent Femdom fetish scene between Barbara Eden and Peter Brown..

  • I would disagree: there were several other noteworthy scenes featuring the sexy Susan Hart. Her hula in a tight white dress is special.

  • Gosh, how corny this clip is! But, in a good way! :) By the way, this is NOT the original 1964 recording of "Ride The Wild Surf" which was actually part of the movie soundtrack, and became bit hit record. This recording is a remake done in the 70's or 80's by Dean Torrence (of Jan & Dean) and various other musicians. Dean sings lead on this version, but Jan sang lead on the original record. I'm posting this just for the record. (No pun intended).

  • Thought this was a remake...thanks for the info!
