@PAOHMONGYANG S2K is slower but I'd rather have the S2K as well. Can't deny that it's sexy and gonna be reliable as hell. Way more ways to modify it too.
It's not an automatic top... so basically it's for a retired old man or a dude in his late 40s going through a midlife crisis, and cant afford a porsche.

Put the solstice next to the Sky and you will note there not the same thing. I have the 07’ redline and I love it! People stop to look at it all the time, I guess I like the attention. If your looking at getting one but on the fence I can tell you I have no regrets, its fast fun and comfortable. its replacing my Sebring convertible…I know I know no comparison but it’s the truth.
actually the top is pretty easy to work with , is really no biggie , one person can do this easliy, but then again , yes, would be nice if were like slk, but HEY! look at the price!
Why it's a horrible convertible design? I'm not sure how good the latch system is, but if it's only a "center" latch as pointed out in the video, it might not be secure enough for wind at high speeds so you may experience buffeting.
Second, you have to not only get out of the car to put it down, you have to open the trunk and fold the top into the trunk. This gets rid of any space you have for a weekend getaway or just picking up stuff around town.
center latch is probably decent since they made it that way, but i never tried it so neither you nor I have anything to say about it.
it sucks that the top is manual, but like with any other manual top you have to get out, and of course it limits trunk space, like in any other convertible, especially a very small one like this. Where else do you expect the top to go? This is not meant to be a weekend getaway car, but a second "fun car" someone might have.
Just because someone "makes it that way" doesn't mean it's decent. It's possible that they cut corners or the designers "think" they did a good job when there's actually better designs out there. But like you said, neither of us have experience with it so we can't say.
No, the Miata's manual top does not sacrifice any trunk space. The S2000's electronic top does not sacrifice any space. The Saturn Sky is no smaller than either the Miata or the S2000 so it has no excuses for the top design.
you always have an option of not putting the top down if you need the trunk space, everything will be fine, simply leave the top up, i know its a crazy concept so i hope your not claustorphobic
very true. i apologize for my hasty generalization. i would enjoy owning one of these. but ferraris do have a unique experience that you don't get from other cars. i think so anyway...
All this thing is, is an American version of the Opel GT/Speedster, exact same handling characteristics, just with different logos and slightly powerful (or detuned) engine, so I don't see what the hype is about them but I would buy a SKY since the looks weren't changed from the original Opel GT but the drive is very forgiving! :D it does handle like a charm but the brakes and clutch are abit... 'buttery' just too soft for my liking
Seems like a nice car for a Saturn. I would own one but, It's not very practical. I'm guessing it's not supposed to be. The guy in the video is definitely a no nothing MORON memorizing specs from a cue card.
How do I know shit about engines? Maybe because I like to spend weekends working on 4g63t's? ANY TURBO THAT SPOOLS BELOW 3000 RPM on a four cylinder IS TOO SMALL TO HAVE SIGNIFICANT POWER, PERIOD. Have you driven a car with an aftermarket turbo?
This car uses a TWIN-SCROLL TURBO CHARGER and if you knew half as much about turbos as you think you do, you wouldn't have made your previous comment.
Ya know, this car looks great. I really liked how it looked when it came out, and it's still pretty fresh. I seriously considered buying this car, but what it boils down to is the fact that its god awful reliability.
You may be paying 15,000 less for a Sky Redline rather than a Boxster or S2000, but that 15,000 will easily pay off in 2-5 years. I'm glad I got my Boxster over this, it has slightly less power but I can sleep at night knowing I got the right car.
@Jbeanerscafe I agree, better looking then its twin by far!
While im not much of an American car lover nor owner, I do admit that the Sky is one of the best looking 2 seat roadsters available, and not to mention one of the most cheapest to own. Id take one of these anyday over the Solstice or Boxster
Nice, I saw an Opel badged one of these here in Blighty today, spoke to the owner who had bought it from a specialist importer of LHD cars. Looks good and blends in well with other Opel (+vauxhall) products in the current line up. I guess although built in the U.S. the styling has had a lot of Euro influence fronm the Opel design guys to make it look the way it does.
I'm watching "saving GM" right now and they talk of how they are finally putting quality on par with the japanese and euro cars.
Yet here it is. An example of an american car that I just can not purchase as the quality and design falls short. Via Consumer Reports -- Lows: Top design, fit and finish, reliability.
The best in it's class. Probably the popular Miata (yea, you guessed it, japanese). The sooner GM dies the better. Who could care less.
I love my Sky. Any complaints about the manual top are pure laziness. It takes no time at all. The steering is wonderfully responsive as well. I don't remember the specs, but if you go to the Saturn website it'll give you the approximate. I think it's 25 miles to the gallon for highway and 21 for the city. Don't quote me though.
The motor is a 4 banger that gets up and hauls ass, especially the Red Line. It would be nice to have a V6, but I'm afraid I'd kill myself if I had that much power.
Don't get me wrong, the Sky/Solstice is a nice car with a nice ride. I test drove one last week and the steering, well, lets just say a cow has a better response time. But the turbo does give you a kick in the pants once it spools up and kicks in.
boohoo you lazy fag. s2000 cr is 10k difference in price, not 4k. you compares base s2000 price to saturn top dollar/trim level price. An electronic retracting roof isnt worth 10k.
I laugh every time people say the Sky Redline is the best roadster you can buy for the money... HELLO, for $4000 more you can get an S2000 which is a car that is 10X better, it isn't a parts bin car like ALL GM cars and it doesn't drive like a cow. S2000 0-60: 5.3 sec, Sky: 5.6. S2000 skidpad: .99g, Sky: .85g. S2000 slalom: 71 mph, Sky: 66 mph. S2000 curb weight: 2800 lbs, Sky: 3080 lbs
acually this is a pretty good car. But yes, a S2k is just an all around beast when you push it. My brother picked up a 2001 for 8k last month bone stock. 8k!!!!!! easily get used ones under 15k, cant beat that
I would actually like a lower driving position, just a bit more reclined with bolsters near my head and at my side to hold me firmly in place, my arms nearly fully extended and my feet nearly at the same level as my ass. My MG Midget,s driving position is almost right on but I would like to lean back a bit more and have a smaller wheel there. I'd also like the sky to be a bit lighter and have more road feel.
It is a very good car, but they neglect to say its actually an Opel speedster from the UK shipped here with an slightly altered with the saturn badging. Typical with US car manufactures who cant do anything but lie to its consumer base. the car, was developed in by opel and in part by Lotus, in fact it has shares many components with the elise.
(Same story with the Tesler roadster)
In fact compare photos of each car side by side youd be amazed how each car is almost the same.
I hate to break it to you, but Opel is a part of GM. The Opel speedster is actually a Saturn Sky shipped FROM the us TO the uk. That's why the opel is not available in right hand drive, because it comes from the same factory as the Sky and Solstice. Nice try though.
OMG! This car is like famous to me! I have a picture of it hanging in my bedroom! I never would have found it if we didn't get those stupid little Saturn flyers in the mail. I promised myself that I WILL own one before I die. Ha ha! This car is awesome! I HAVE A PICTURE OF IT IN MY WALLET!
i also test drove the 350z roadster and i think that my best bet power top, roomy, good power and its comfortable only draw back is that i would get a used one with about 40k for the same price of the sky redline.
well i just test drove the sky and the only thing i really didnt like was the way the hood looked from the inside it was to pointy it looked like triangles on the edges of the car and its a little to compact inside other than that the car drove and handled amazing
in all honesty i would go with the sky simply because the stang doesnt have an independernt rear end differential, plus for me at least i thinkthe sky looks better because you cant drive anywhere without seeing mustangs everywhere, I'd rather have a car that stands out
I dislike mustangs aesthetically. I love the sound of a Shelby though.
I see so many fat, red neck chicks in mustangs. WTF? lol So many "cool guys" in their mustangs will rev their engines to impress me or cat call to me. Silly boys. I'll stick to my Sky...and my boyfriend!
This is an awesome video on the Saturn Sky Redline! It is the best looking two seater roadster in the market, and the price is excellent! There isn't a dealer that can keep one inhouse long enough Lets face it this is
a real good looking car that will turn a lot of heads. Yes, it's a Saturn!
sweet car but i saw a mazda miata with a supercharged v6 block engine for 10 grand and that just blew me away. no doubt you can do the same to this baby but for 10 grand its pretty hard to beat.
One thing about this piece of shit car.... next time you see one open the hood, bend the black PLASTIC wheel well thingy and watch the car's frame (the bar in front of it) move......(it might be only on the turbo)
Yeah that was a good car; I had the SL1 and have an SC1 now. Sure like the plastic panels on the gravel roads. The car is 99 with 132,000 km and still looks and drives like new.
lol stupid people arguing about muscle cars and imports(o wow did he just say what i think he said, he called them by thier actual class name, the world is coming to and END!!!) i laugh at your stupidity, hahahahahahaha.<----me laughing at your stupidity.
If you're a guy and drive a Miata or Honda S2000, you got no place trying to crack on this car, given that your a wuss. Got a Dodge with Cummins and proudly looking at another American ride. F your Jap shit you sell-out; bunch of dorks making criticism of this car. Then get the hell out and get a life you twats.
if you actually think this has better motoring than an s2000, you are sadly mistaken....and fyi you are no better than the other people "bashing" on american motoring. and this is not to say i dont like american motoring, heck my dad has never bought anything but american cars
How old as some of you people? If you don't like Saturn, GM, American cars or vise versa don't watch the video or buy the car. Doesn't make a bit of sense to whine about it. If you don't take care of a cars engine it will blow. Many time blow engines are our own fault.
Too bad the S2000 is ugly and much more expensive to get more horsepower out of. Maybe you should see the video from Japan where they put a solstice up against an MX5. GM is starting to go in the right direction, so your boner for imports is no longer something to be proud of.
with respect, that is a matter of taste, both are beautiful cars and have pretty even stock numbers in the quarter mile (low 14's). Both handle great(I have driven them both before). Just a matter of taste, that's all.
Even if the styling was based on the Opel speedster, I wouldn't call it a european car as it's based on the American Kappa platform. Most of you people are getting this car confused with the Opel speedster. This car is NOT based on the 2001-05 Opel speedster. In fact, the new 2007 Opel GT is based on this car. So the fact is this is an American car and the Opel GT is a rebadged American car. So even though the exterior design is an european look, it's not a european car at all.
dont make an ass out of u and me on assumptions, im not a honda fanatic nor do i claim to be one of those retarded people who claim a sticker increases HP . Regardless for the uncalled comment, I took the latter of buying a car within my budget range since goign to college full time and balancing work limits my resources to buy a nicer car. And for your information I drive a 2007 toyota yaris sedan. grow up
Horsepower isn't everything, but if you insist: the S2000 has 237hp ... the Sky Red Line costs 5k LESS than S2000. The S2000 is as attractive as an old Del Sol, where the Sky actually has STYLE. I suspect you drive a rusty Civic with fart-can exhaust, and could afford neither roadster.
im getting the ragular sky (because of gas) i cant wait to get one of these babies i dont care what the small draw backs are i just need a better ride lol somthing nice and somthing that wont kill my money lol
Well the Saturn Sky, Opel Speedster, Vaxhall VX220, and the Pontiac Solstice all look similar and with the same mechanics because all of them are part of the GM Global Corporation. Opel is GM's brand in Europe, Vaxhall is in England and Saturn and Pontiac are based states side. Guess what they also have a company down under called Holden.
Ohhh come on, I don't mean to be mean but it looks like the Opel Speedster and it doesn't even drive as good. I looks nice but it just looks too much like the Speedster. Can someone agree or disagree with me here.
I hate American cars but I honestly think this is one of the best to come out this decade along with Chrysler 300 and Corvette... Other American cars are just rubbish in terms of overall agility, quality, and looks.
my brother has a 97 saturn SC1 it went thru a blown engine around 20,000 miles, the new engine blew a head at 125,000 miles. saturns suck! stop sticking up for shitty cars. and NOOOO sc1's or sc2's NEITHER are fast, i have drove both and they suck balllllls.
Quality wise i agree with you completly, but fast, not up until ion red line, it wasnt meant to go fast, it was more of fuel efficient/family kinda car, i had an sc2, even tho, engine blew around 100,000 miles on me, it was giving me good gas mileage....
yeah i hear ya man, redlines are indeed fast, but a couple morons on here think there sc'1s and sc'2's are seriously fast LOL, but ive been in both and neither resemble the word fast. i had an eagle talon tsi, and i would barely consider that fast, so what does that tell you hehe.
And if you do have some honda or toyota or some other car in that category, i advise you to not race a sky redline, especially if it looks suped up. I race a lot and have driven many high end cars (im one of those guys that drives everything i get my hands on). ive raced some guys WRX that goes from 0 to 60 in 4.4 and he beats me off the line but somehwre in third i ripped him apart. ive also raced the 07 vette base model and i was actually ahead up until i started hitting 80-85.
it should have a govenor at 65 mph, this asshole is always weaving in and out of cars on i-95 where i live and he never fucking gets caught.

You can take your Sky Redline to any GM dealership, and have them add GMs turbo upgrade kit. You keep your factory 100,000 mile warranty, and the upgrade gives you 290hp, and 340 ft/lbs of torque. The Kappas chassis is incredible, but GM put shit tires on the cars from the factory. Swap out to serious rubber, and its a hell of a car.

That is bad for Saturn to overlook.
GargantulaKon 3 years ago
boohoo you lazy fag. s2000 cr is 10k difference in price, not 4k. you compares base s2000 price to saturn top dollar/trim level price.

Come on, do the math guys!
acch22 3 years ago
sky redline is the new car for balding middle age men who can't afford a corvette for their mid life crisis
sqreeze 3 years ago
acually this is a pretty good car. But yes, a S2k is just an all around beast when you push it. My brother picked up a 2001 for 8k last month bone stock. 8k!!!!!! easily get used ones under 15k, cant beat that
HOPEFULartist07 3 years ago
The only problem I have with the S2000 is the aesthetic look and the only problem I have with the Sky is the soft-top.
GargantulaKon 3 years ago
The Opel GT is Opel's version of the sky. GM's Saturn division share cars with Opel. Like Holden in Australia shares cars...

My 95 mitsubishi mighty max out ran a saturn sky on the highway today,I't was a silver convertable,I don't know if it was the turbo sky.
ATOMICBIGFOOT156 3 years ago
I would actually like a lower driving position, just a bit more reclined with bolsters near my head and at my side to hold me firmly in place, my arms nearly fully extended and my feet nearly at the same level as my ass. My MG Midget,s driving position is almost right on but I would like to lean back a bit more and have a smaller wheel there. I'd also like the sky to be a bit lighter and have more road feel.

Sorry guys I ment to say its a Vauxhall VX220
getting my elise based cars confused
xevious2501 3 years ago
It is a very good car, but they neglect to say its actually an Opel speedster from the UK shipped here with an slightly altered with the saturn badging. Typical with US car manufactures who cant do anything but lie to its consumer base. the car, was developed in by opel and in part by Lotus, in fact it has shares many components with the elise.
(Same story with the Tesler roadster)
In fact compare photos of each car side by side youd be amazed how each car is almost the same.
xevious2501 3 years ago
You are mistaken - these are build side by side with the Opel in Wilmington, Delaware. The Opel are shipped to Europe - not the other way around.
And nothing better than driving by the plant and seeing them all there...
carmenbear 3 years ago 2
I hate to break it to you, but Opel is a part of GM. The Opel speedster is actually a Saturn Sky shipped FROM the us TO the uk. That's why the opel is not available in right hand drive, because it comes from the same factory as the Sky and Solstice. Nice try though.
Thecougarman07 3 years ago
The Opel GT is the base for the sky and solstice.

Nice car. Still can't believe as of 2005 that it's a Saturn.
HakemEX 3 years ago
i also test drove the 350z roadster and i think that my best bet power top, roomy, good power and its comfortable only draw back is that i would get a used one with about 40k for the same price of the sky redline.
raminass 3 years ago
well i just test drove the sky and the only thing i really didnt like was the way the hood looked from the inside it was to pointy it looked like triangles on the edges of the car and its a little to compact inside other than that the car drove and handled amazing
raminass 3 years ago
im lookin at a 07 mustang gt or the red line which car would you guys rec. havent driven the red line yet
raminass 3 years ago
in all honesty i would go with the sky simply because the stang doesnt have an independernt rear end differential, plus for me at least i thinkthe sky looks better because you cant drive anywhere without seeing mustangs everywhere, I'd rather have a car that stands out
acotton3901 3 years ago
Sky, plus it has Onstar. Get it in Black. Or Silver. Or Red. Or Yellow. Or any color it comes in.
HakemEX 3 years ago
It's very hard to decide but if I was you I'd get a mustang
fordmustangGT7211 3 years ago
I dislike mustangs aesthetically. I love the sound of a Shelby though.
I see so many fat, red neck chicks in mustangs. WTF? lol So many "cool guys" in their mustangs will rev their engines to impress me or cat call to me. Silly boys. I'll stick to my Sky...and my boyfriend!
keylime1602 3 years ago 2
This is an awesome video on the Saturn Sky Redline! It is the best looking two seater roadster in the market, and the price is excellent! There isn't a dealer that can keep one inhouse long enough Lets face it this is
a real good looking car that will turn a lot of heads. Yes, it's a Saturn!

lol 173hp...
try bmw M roadsters over 300 horses, thats almost double this.
what is the point ofthis opel gt copy?
evilskin 3 years ago
Opel, Vauxhall, Holden, Saturn... they're all from GM, so that's not a copy.
trobi 3 years ago
173 for the base model.
The car you are talking about makes 330 hp & 262 lb-ft of torque (only 2 more than the sky) from a 3.2 liter six.
Power Per litre? 103. Saturn with the 2.0 litre turbo? 130.
BMW 3197 pounds, saturn 3,037 pounds Power to weight:
9.69lb/HP 12.2 lb-ft Vs. 11.68/lb/hp 11.68 lb-ft
Price: 52,100 BMW. 30,405 Sky Redline.
Price / hp? 157.88 bmw. 116.94 Sky.
I will take the sky, and pocket my 21,695 or spend it on upgrades thank you much!

If you're a guy and drive a Miata or Honda S2000, you got no place trying to crack on this car, given that your a wuss. Got a Dodge with Cummins and proudly looking at another American ride. F your Jap shit you sell-out; bunch of dorks making criticism of this car. Then get the hell out and get a life you twats.
uncleflaco 4 years ago 2
if you actually think this has better motoring than an s2000, you are sadly mistaken....and fyi you are no better than the other people "bashing" on american motoring. and this is not to say i dont like american motoring, heck my dad has never bought anything but american cars
V13t5ta 4 years ago
honda2000: Dork - go push your opinion in Tokyo. If you just came here to bash Americans or our cars, then step the F out.
uncleflaco 4 years ago
How old as some of you people? If you don't like Saturn, GM, American cars or vise versa don't watch the video or buy the car. Doesn't make a bit of sense to whine about it. If you don't take care of a cars engine it will blow. Many time blow engines are our own fault.
campho 4 years ago
fuck that car.gotta do what i did and go for the S2000
hondas2000pdx 4 years ago
solstice and sky have a toyota transmission so they are ok in my book. and the s2000 is only nice when you swap in a 2jzgte.
love the vid btw :)
MKIIIsupra2jz 4 years ago
cant disagree its really sick with the 2jzgte
hondas2000pdx 4 years ago
i'd take the s2000 over the sky all jap car vs a car designed after the vauxhall/opel german engine, japanese transmission~
MKIIIsupra2jz 4 years ago
Too bad the S2000 is ugly and much more expensive to get more horsepower out of. Maybe you should see the video from Japan where they put a solstice up against an MX5. GM is starting to go in the right direction, so your boner for imports is no longer something to be proud of.
elroy1985 4 years ago
I don't know Vaxhaull's are pretty sick cars, they always seem to keep going and going. Very sturdy engines that can take much abuse.
imbroke2021 4 years ago
with respect, that is a matter of taste, both are beautiful cars and have pretty even stock numbers in the quarter mile (low 14's). Both handle great(I have driven them both before). Just a matter of taste, that's all.
imbroke2021 4 years ago
yuk, "american" cars are terrible.
sorry but you just can't make 'em.
moeszyzlak 4 years ago
This is a european car. it's actually designed by Opel (German manufacturer). I used to work @ GM Europe
Yoga1978 4 years ago

And for your information I drive a 2007 toyota yaris sedan. grow up

rofl thats a opel speedster ... look it up and see what i mean .. thats a 7 year old car model ... thats mega gay
ciobulus 4 years ago
No, the Opel Speedster is mid-engine. The Sky/Solstice are different, new, platforms.
DuoMax26 4 years ago
How many horses???? 264 HP?? 260 lb tq? I'd prefer the s2000
sras2000 4 years ago
Horsepower isn't everything, but if you insist: the S2000 has 237hp ... the Sky Red Line costs 5k LESS than S2000. The S2000 is as attractive as an old Del Sol, where the Sky actually has STYLE. I suspect you drive a rusty Civic with fart-can exhaust, and could afford neither roadster.

Cariggs 4 years ago
Ohhh come on, I don't mean to be mean but it looks like the Opel Speedster and it doesn't even drive as good. I looks nice but it just looks too much like the Speedster. Can someone agree or disagree with me here.

Saturn and Opel look very similar I do agree. Check out the more cars by Opel and Saturn. They all look very similar.
I think Saturn and Opel have some sort of agreement.

my brother has a 97 saturn SC1 it went thru a blown engine around 20,000 miles, the new engine blew a head at 125,000 miles. saturns suck! stop sticking up for shitty cars. and NOOOO sc1's or sc2's NEITHER are fast, i have drove both and they suck balllllls.
coandcaiv 4 years ago
Quality wise i agree with you completly, but fast, not up until ion red line, it wasnt meant to go fast, it was more of fuel efficient/family kinda car, i had an sc2, even tho, engine blew around 100,000 miles on me, it was giving me good gas mileage....
returnedfavor 4 years ago
yeah i hear ya man, redlines are indeed fast, but a couple morons on here think there sc'1s and sc'2's are seriously fast LOL, but ive been in both and neither resemble the word fast. i had an eagle talon tsi, and i would barely consider that fast, so what does that tell you hehe.
