  • the breakdown method works really well on my hair. thanks for the tutorial.

  • Girl your hair is the bomb I subscribed today and plan on stalking...i mean following you guys:-)

  • i have the same black comb/brush. Thee best ever. I apply my Vatika Oil and my tangles come out smoothly..

  • @o0R3stless0o What's the brush called?

  • I just brought the brush from a tractor supply store, and i can wait to try it. I only paid 5.69 for the brush.

  • @hautemom33 Come back and let us know how it works!

  • Tried this last night and whoa, I will be doing this from here on out. Thank you for these vids. My previous regimen worked well but this regimen is perfect.

  • Hi India, I love your videos!!!! Very informative and you are so funny, lol. I have a question, as you stated everyone has different hair textures but I want to know if you have every tried the Denman brush before the brush you used in your video? Additionally, how long have you used the brush in your video and if you have used the Denman, how is your current brush different?

Thanks in advance and God Bless

  • Hi again India...just wondering if you happen to have a video up on you moisturizing your hair. And what you use for twist-styling. Would you be able to make one on that/those? pretty please.

  • This video is just what I needed. It seems like when I detangle my hair, I can use the hair that comes out as a sweater.

  • i def need to be more careful when i detangle i like rip my hair at times and now i feel my hair growth has stunted :(

  • Hey India, I actually saw you when you came to PSL for a teachers convention, and I wanted to ask you so many questions, but I work there and it might have been inappropriate to leave the desk lol. It was at the Hilton Garden Inn, back in Aug or Sept maybe, I can't remember, but I was thinking "I know that girl"..anyways, this is great work..My cousin and I went natural together, but I relaxed again :( but now I'm going back and these videos help to keep the motivation going. Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi, I just came across your channel today and I just luv it!! Please continue to make these videos!

  • I just wanna say I LOVE THIS BRUSH! True, I did find it on a vet supplies website...but it works wonders for my very kinky & tight coils!

  • Just met Felicia at the Fro Fashion Week in Atlanta this weekend and ordered this brush today!!! I am so excited to try it! She used it in a demo and I think its just what I need! I told her I saw it on your video...she said she's gotten a lot of orders bc of it!! :)

  • I had to definitely LOL when I saw the brush! I don't know if this was stated before, but this brush is nothing more than a horse brush! We have been using that brush for a while to gently comb our horse's mane! It's called the Tangle Wrangler! You can buy it cheaper on one of the horse grooming websites.

  • @Lisnist lol its funny because i was trying to find the brush online and so i typed in the description of the brush and thats what came up it was so funny to me...

  • @jazzybee445 Lol! Yes girl! The giggles were coming to me big time when I saw it, especially when she said that the woman was selling it at the Natural Hair Show or something for $10! LOL! My dad bought a bunch of those for only $15! Can't remember where he got them, but as I said... we use it on our horse!

  • For me I DC before shampooing and conditioning I don't like hopping in and out of the shower lol. But I liked this video v. helpful

  • I tried going to the woman's page to get the brush and surprise, surprise...no link to it whatsoever. I love your personality by the way BUT I WANT THIS BRUSH!!! *chest heaves* LOL kidding. I will look around. Great tips. How'd you like the Agadir brand?

  • How was your hair styled in the photo in the beginning of the video?

  • Do you wax your eyebrows or thread them?

  • Loved the video. I was at my local beauty supply store and found the same brush for $2.99. I'm super happy, I will let you know how well it worked when I get a chance to use it. Thanks again for the video =)

  • @melody6286 What beauty supply store did you find the brush at? What did they call it?

  • I loved the "Breakdown" series. I got my Tangle Wrangler in the mail Saturday and couldn't wait to detangle. It does make it so much easier. Thanks for all your inspiration!

  • New to this subscribing thing. Loved your videos. Watch YouTube natural hair videos constantly. Gonna try the Breakdown. I've been natural for 2 1/2 years but I have been hiding under braids. New years resolution was to be me. So I am just now learning my hair. Thanks for the videos.

  • You are silly lol I'm going to try this though. Great videos ^_^

  • I think the brush is like that really hard to hold onto tangle teezer everyone bought a few years ago and stop using because it was awkward lol

  • Just bought that brush!

  • @pinkrosesfly where did you find the brush? I went to the website but couldn't find it.

  • Thanks for the video, i need an easier way to detangle my hair. My hair is about 4 1/2 in and it takes me forever to get it together, so i will definitely be trying this method on my next wash...thanks again

  • I NEED that brush in my life. I have two denman's and they both feel like they are pulling hair out of my head unnecessarily. My "breakdown" is similar to yours. One of these days I'll make a vid on it. :-)

  • Thanks for the upload. Not sure if this was posted in regards to my fb request on y'alls page but it def was right on time. About to start my wash process now.

  • @ElliMacAttack thanks I have a blue one my aunt gave me years ago I will purchase more now that I know what they are called 4 dollars can't beat that

  • The tip from breaking one twist into two twists has been a helpful tip, so thanks for that

  • Thanks for the shout out lady! So glad you like the brush!!! It is the Bomb.COM!

  • Hey guys the brush is called the "tangle wrangler". Its is originally intended for horses... But yeah.. you can find it online for like 4 dollars... in case anyone is interested... its like the EXACT same brush!

  • @ElliMacAttack - Thank you so much for this information. I looked all over for that brush. I just ordered it on Amazon for $8.88 with shipping and tax. Cant wait to get it.

  • @MsUrbanBeauty Hi,

I was wondering... what is the name of the brush on Amazon? I can't find it.

  • @luseeedwards if you live in los angeles you cna find the brush at his and hers it cost 4.50 or something... but its called the tangle wrangler... but his and hers calls it a wig detangling brush... so maybe go to your beauty supply store and ask if they have a wig detangling brush..

  • Is there any snapping or popping sound when using it? Detangling is my biggest woe with benig natural. I use your method and it does work well. But when I do Cassia or henna treatments. All of my hair has to be rinse(While out) in the shower, so it's a not so fun detangling session?

  • Thanks for the vid. Be Blessed!!!

  • the instrumental in the intro... who is that? love it. love your hair too :)

  • p.s. you are my hair twin!

  • I buy everything you recommend and it always works perfect on me thnkz :)

  • yes, this is the same thing i do, as far as "breaking down" each section after each step. however, I have to detangle before i shampoo (b/c the shampoo "resets" my curl pattern and causes more tangles)...first i use a cheapie conditioner to detangle, then i follow up with the shampoo, deep condish, detangle again while breaking down each twist, then leave-in/oil sealer/oil scalp. works like a charm!

  • I love, love, love the breakdown method. You have literally cut my shampoo/conditioning time in half! I don't dread washing my hair anymore. Thank you for making these awesome tutorials:)

  • how long has it taken your hair to grow that long?

  • Your eyebrows are perfect!

  • i love this. i'm recently transitioning so my hair is shorter and i have less twist. But doing it this way makes me not hate my kinky hair lol. Its very manageable this way.

  • I tried this method on my wash routine. Love it! Makes things so much easier. Thanks for sharing!

  • Glad to hear that you will incorporate love and relationships into your cahnnel :) You and your sisters know how to hold down a man so to say so I will be looking forward to this.

  • You sound like you can sing....

  • I apply coconut oil as a pre treatment and detangle my hair using my fingers- pulling the ends to release shed hair- separating any knots/tangles and twisting into sections as I move along. I co-wash my hair while in twists and open one section at a time to comb through and retwist. Then I rinse my entire head very thoroughly.

  • hey India..... what do you mean by the tension method????

  • I tried this method from the video series and i made a BIG difference in cutting back on the time and frustration of washing and detangling my hair. I will be using this method here on out! Thx so much!

  • This exactly what I do for my daughter and myself. This method is so much easier. I am thinking about purchasing the brush.

  • Getting the BRUSH!!! :)

  • love this " We celebrate our differences, we don't put any one down." I love all of you videos very positive and uplifting. Peace and Blessings...Kree

  • Hey India, don't forget to add this to the playlist. ^_^

  • I do the same thing....I ran across this channel because of this series. I've been using this method over a year I just didn't name it :). Love ur hair!

  • I have the same brush. It's a wig brush I bought from his and hers hair in Los Angeles for under $5. Never thought to use it on my real hair. Thanks for sharing this!

  • Great video. I still think you could have uploaded the videos within a 1 week span. I know getting views is important and all, but by the time I watched this video, I didn't remember what you did in the last videos, and the same for the second vid of this series...just some constructive criticism. I really like this channel, so keep up the good work :)

  • I had a lot of footage for this particular series and it takes HOURS to edit a good video (it took me ½ a day to edit Carmen’s One Graceful Sista video and it was only 2:41 minutes long). I would have spent days editing trying to get this series out at one time. That is why I put a link to the others videos in parts 2&3 and created a playlist for them. These videos are always posted so that you can refer back to them as needed. Stay Blessed :)

  • @foxrainbow Thanks for the feedback but it's not about views... It's about time. I have a full time job. I am an elementary teacher and after my husband that is my next priority. Being a teacher is time consuming. On top of that, I edit ALL of our videos because my computer has the software (not cheap) and I know more about it.

  • @MyNaturalSistas Hey India:) I can so see you being a teacher I know your kids must love you cause you seem so patient and caring like you just explain things so well they must all be on the honor roll lol just saying this bc my DD is in the 3rd grade and her teacher whew lets just say I pray before I go talk to her lol not everyone should deal with kids. I have learned patience bc I work with special needs children and its just wonderful to see them learn new things:)

  • @cortrell99 Thanks for the kind words and I actually teach 3rd grade!!!!

  • @MyNaturalSistas wow wish she had a teacher like you or heck you lol cause its important to love what you do bc if you dont you wont do your best and the children you teach lack bc of it continue to be blessed sistah you and your family:)

  • @MyNaturalSistas Hey India! What editing software do you use??

  • @AfroQueenShae I switch between iMovie and FCPX

  • you are SO beautiful!! It seriously makes no sense! Lol. You're my natural hair motivation! Love ya, hunn!

  • Your face is so clear, what do you use on it??

  • Would luv to see more style videos from you, we have similar curl pattern, but trying to achieve your length. :-)

  • Thanks for sharing this series! I do a very similar method as well everytime I wash my hair! I too run my fingers down the twist as I twist! I usually use my fingers only to detangle! I am interested in that brush! I will be checking that tool out for sure! Stay authentically beautiufl! have a wonderfully blessed and a safe week to each of you! Looking forward to seeing the upcoming vids!

  • LOL@ "I don't know do you do that?? I do it" :D loved it!! (I'm referring to when you were talking about running your finger through each twist as you're twisting your hair) you are just too funny!!I you always put a smile on my face! God Bless you sis :)

  • I'm going to try that brush and thanks for sharing

  • im going to def try the break down, especially after my last wash/detangle situation...it was not pretty.

  • skin regimen video please

  • I'll definitely try it ... I have an issue with tangles and knots so I hope this helps.

  • Can you show how you did your bun from the first vid of this series

  • @starr2o working on it...playing catch up at the moment :( this footage is from December

  • Just sent Ms. Leatherwood an e-mail to purchase that brush! Thank you for this video series.

  • i'm definitely going to be getting that brush for my daughter and trying this method with her. She and I have such different textures I'm am having to learn new hair care for her.

  • Ha :) India you are random and I love it.....You are so goofy.....Stay blessed

  • oh yea, i do my hair in this method!! i love it!!!! it is sooooooo easy and quick! now i co wash my hair twice a week and alternate between the "breakdown" method and the curly girl method. both ways work for me and my hair is always extremely soft and free of single strand knots!!

  • one more thing, LOL!!! i can't keep my hair in protective styling for days at a time because i have learned that it tangle really bad! AND, i can't sleep in second day hair for the same reason! SOOOO, i have re-twist my hair every night before bed! it's just something i have gotten used to!! :D

  • yes india!!! i detangle as i as twist!!! it's so funny because i was answering your question as if u and i were having a conversation!! LOL!!

  • @mscoolbee LOL!

  • For me, I detangle FIRST then shampoo, deep condition and put my leave-in/seal. I find for MY hair to detangle first as I experience less breakage because my hair is semi wet and more stronger. I have tried doing it after pooing and conditioning and I find that I pull more hair out because its in the weakest state. Great vid!

  • How long have u been natural???

  • @latosha9008 3 years on 02/07/12

  • Please do a video on your bun. Thanks

  • I do the same thing sis...its really helped retain my sanity-LOL

  • I never understood how it could take 2 hours to detangle hair. I wash my hair with a cleansing conditioner. I only finger detangle in the shower. Sometimes I deep condition (I need to get more regular with that). My hair doesn't take any product while it's wet so I wait until my hair is almost dry and then I add a butter or whatever styling cream I'm using. Sometimes I need a little detangling during styling but not often even though I do have really thick hair. It's easy and I love my hair.

  • @sunnycorbett "I never understood how it could take 2 hours to detangle hair." << Me either and my hair is in 4a land. If it was like that I'd be rocking a twa FOREVER!

  • Thanks for the video! I definitely want that brush b/c the denman and tangle teezer aren't working as my hair grows. Random: what software are you using? I've been trying to figure out how to add a video clip with a link into my videos.

  • @MyNaturalReality I switch between iMovie and FCPX but you add links through the edit annotations options here on you tube. Choose the spotlight annotation and click the link box. It will give you a drop down box of options to choose from ( ex. link a video, channel, subscription page, and etc.). Have the link ready to paste into the space and click save/publish. Hope this makes sense....

  • @MyNaturalSistas OMG!! I have been waiting on kimmay to tell me how she does this same thing and funny you answered it just now...thank you!!!! and I appreaciate that you dont allow your youtube fame to get to your head...:)

  • @MyNaturalSistas OMG!! I wanted to know about this as well. Thanks for the tip (adding video clip with a link)!:)

  • @MyNaturalSistas totally makes sense!! Thanks for the help!

  • Hey India! i do the breakdown too ... it's a life saver. your look great!

  • @FusionofCultures Hey my luv!!!!!!! Thanks :)

  • How does this brush compare to the Denman?

  • @sistaznecole i stopped using the Denman over a year ago, it didn't work well for me...

  • my natural hair sista <3

  • My best friend gave me that brush in pink over 10 years ago. I need to pull it out and put the denman brush down....your hair looks AMAZING!!!

  • i have that same brush!!! it's awesome!! and felicia was awesome! lol i hate i missed u guys!
