I am a member and my welsh have improved considerably
I sing in a Male Voice Choir, and we have chosen to include this one in this year's repertoire, after having heard a Welsh choir's beautiful rendition of it in late 2010. There were a number of choirs singing (both separately and in unison) at a concert near Winchester, and this one surely grabbed us. Beautiful.
when i listen to this and watch the video my welsh blood pulls me to the door and i hear the voices calling me home ,do you not hear the call.. come along home .................TO WALES
This gave me goosebumps! My grandfather too came from the mines of Wales to the slate mines of Poultney Vermont. I have a wonderful CD of the Poultney Welsh Choir of which he was a member. His brother, the director. I treasure it.
beautiful. I will be travelling to Wales next week and wanted to find a choir concert to attend, but was unsuccessful. I suppose my cd will have to suffice!
When God made the Earth He left making the land of Wales till last He because he only practised making the earth but when He made wales He made perfection.
Wales a beautiful land with beautiful friendly people
brings tears to my eyes too. My family left the dark of the mines to go to the US and where did they go, back to the mines...none of us now though. My grandfather was so strong in his wishes that we move above ground. The thing we all kept is the music. God bless Wales and her music
Powerful testament to freedom. My family left Wales to own land in the hills of Vermont 100 years ago. But they never stopped talking of Wales, and my father bought a farm and kept dogs to the day he died thinking of the countyside of Wales and Vermont. This is a dream to many familes who could not walk freely across Gwalia for many years of their countries history and many left the oppression. A tear to the eye indeed, Diolch yn fawr.
And you will never be forgotten - come home to Wales and you will be loved - they are rough around the edges but they are God's people - I had the privilege of growing up in Wales - they are lovely people and you would be made so welcome

A wnaiff yr Eisteddfod, ysgolion a chystadlaethau fel Cor Cymru hyrwyddo canu corawl Cymreig cyn ein bod ni'n colli nhw am byth!
Diolch yn fawr i ti! thank you so much for this song i live in Australia and it sends a shiver down me when i here the power in this! My partner who is australian cannot believe the passion and ferocity Within the Welsh people but she to also loves it! Diolch.
I am English, but my Mother was Welsh and all her side of the family, and I can speak some welsh. My Nain had 10 brothers and sisters, there are loads of us. My dad lives in Wales, I visit Wales whenever I can, I love walking, fishing and just loving the scenary. This video has summed up EVERYTHING I know about Wales, from scenery to Welsh, to Border Collies to the many memories of Welsh choirs.
Wales is in my blood and this video sums it all up. Thank you Solstaro, this is the best.
great. reminds me when I was in Wales, singing at Eisteddfod. I was struck by the beauty of Wales. Of the countries seen, it was the best. Thanks for the video & the choir.
Another breath-taking song. This choir gives me goose bumps, they have such magnificent voices.Thank you Solstaro for putting this and other songs on youtube.
I really enjoyed this video. The music, the scenery, the walker -- I don't know which was more magnificent. I wish I could be walking right there with him! Did anyone see a white animal (maybe a pony?) leaping up the rocks, around minute 1:02 - 1:05? There may even have been a grey animal moving around too.
I was reading that Bryn Terfel and Rhys Meirion, (Welsh opera singers), grew up in North Wales, in a district known as "The Magic Mile." Does anyone happen to know if The Magic Mile is anywhere near Capel Curig?
How did Gwilym Jones acquire the "King of Capel Curig" designation? Maybe because he has many talents (vocal, sheep-raising, and notably, the ability to hike up steep mountains - something that I at age 50 would find quite daunting! How old is he?!?)
Bryn is from Pant Glas on the road from Pen-y-groes to Tremadog, and Rhys Meirion from Tremadog or Porthmadog or somewhere like that. It's a bit more than a mile, but I suppose poetical measurements are allowed in such cases.
As for Gwil, he's got many talents that qualify him as king. He must be in his late sixties now, and still walks Siabod. I suppose if you do it every day, you never have to stop!
The lyrics are on the sleeve of the choir CD which has many more stirring songs. Please contact the Cantorion Colin Jones website for further details. Thank you for listening
Haha! Cool! I didn't think there was any Welsh Choir stuff on youtube! I'm a male South Australian, only 21, and I sing in a choir that sings this! We sing a lot of Welsh stuff in Welsh, and I love it! My choir is the Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia.... The choir's sung over there in Wales as well.
1:16 Mae'n fy atgoffa o ddarlun gan Gyffun Williams, o fferwr a'i gi! Nodweddiadol yn fy marn i! Adlewyrchiad gwych o'n gwlad bendigedig ni! Pleidleisiwch Plaid ar Fai'r 3ydd, er mwyn gwella'n gwlad ni ychydig mwy!
When is your new CD being released? hope this song is on it ...Cymru am Byth

What does the chorus translate to?
DanishCartoonist 3 years ago
There is a tranlation of sorts above the Welsh verses in About This Video
cyfieithydd 3 years ago
yes, that's why I asked about the chorus, for which there is NO translation provided, sadly.....
"O Homeland, O Homeland, ??????
O Wales, O Wales ?????
????????????????" Or something like that
DanishCartoonist 3 years ago
O Wales, O Wales, I'd give you my life,
O Walia, O Walia (latin name for Wales), You are my bliss/happiness
My 'Walia', you are my sunshine
It doesn't translate exactly but that's pretty close i think.
nilemist 3 years ago 3
"You are my sunshine"!!! Cheers...I will check with some Welshies in my choir tomorrow night!
DanishCartoonist 3 years ago
If you click on "more info", you will get the full translation.

The white animal is in fact a sheep! The farmer Gwilym Jones is the "unofficial" King of Capel Curig"
