Combat is everything the video says about it, Its tight,consistent and brutal. You attack too early, misjudge when the enemy will attack or hide behind your shield too much, you will die. And dear god you will die often!
This game is still worth buying now, even with Dark Souls out, and from what I can tell, the online still exists. Now, off your ass and go get this game, you will thank me after the 300th death.

My thoughts exactly. It was an average game, and yet it's fans treat it like the epitome of gaming , and that anyone who dislikes it deserves to be shot. And, as you said, there were so many more games that were released in 2009, and I didn't even play most of the really good ones.
It might have been a refreshing change from all of the free world RPG's for some people, it was just...underwhelming. It was most definitely NOT Game of the Year quality.

If there's one downfall to Demon's Souls it's that you don't shake in your boots after you've played it before (all the time at least, some bosses are still a bitch to fight no matter how many times you've fought them). Easily the GotY for 2009, and props to GS for having the balls to give it to a deserving game that isn't backed by a big company.

Oblivion is an open world RPG, full of side quest with no interesting bosses to fight with, while God of War is a fast paced game where your characters kills everything rather easily, completely linear with no RPG aspects at all (except the fairly simple "upgrade weapon system").
Demon's Soul online is completely new, it's infinitively harder than both Oblivion and God of War, the combat system is great (more aking to Zelda but much deeper)

with a good level up engine based on killing monsters and surviving throughout the process.
the game is based in a medieval apocalyptic world. and the worlds are linear, you have 5 of them u can freely explore and over 15 hard bosses to kill at the end of each segments of a world.
i think all the PS3 exclusives deserves to win ,i will go 4 Killzone 2,then uncharted 2 even if he won like 20 goty, but demon souls is so damn good like a hard nes game haha,,,,,,,ratchet is dpe 2 ,
If you own a PS3, you OWE it to yourself to play this game. At least try it out. You might end up not really digging it, and if so, that's a shame. But you might also end up really, really, really loving it, and you'll stay addicted to it for months. There's so much to see and do, so much to experience. The brilliantly designed world is absolutely enchanting and a joy to explore, and the minimalistic story makes it all the more mystical.
One of the finest games I've ever played. A true 10/10.

demon souls is just like oblivion plus God Of War from what I've played. So not very "innovative"

@yougotpwnd95 What the hell are you talking about? Oblivion is an open world RPG, full of side quest with no interesting bosses to fight with, while God of War is a fast paced game where your characters kills everything rather easily, completely linear with no RPG aspects at all (except the fairly simple "upgrade weapon system").
Demon's Soul online is completely new, it's infinitively harder than both Oblivion and God of War, the combat system is great (more aking to Zelda but much deeper)

@Tonystarkes888 of course not, it is a ps3 only game. a role playing game... its really hard, and satisfying.
with a good level up engine based on killing monsters and surviving throughout the process.
the game is based in a medieval apocalyptic world. and the worlds are linear, you have 5 of them u can freely explore and over 15 hard bosses to kill at the end of each segments of a world.

If you own a PS3, you OWE it to yourself to play this game. At least try it out. You might end up not really digging it, and if so, that's a shame. But you might also end up really, really, really loving it, and you'll stay addicted to it for months. There's so much to see and do, so much to experience. The brilliantly designed world is absolutely enchanting and a joy to explore, and the minimalistic story makes it all the more mystical.
One of the finest games I've ever played. A true 10/10.

@conradlee65 but it did come out in europe! in june, to be precise. late, I know, but at least it did come out at all.
and even if it didn't, you could still import the american release, cause the ps3 is region-free.

Don't worry, just realise that most games released these days aren't games in the traditional sense and Demon's Souls is a game. If you played it, you'd cry like a little girl because you'd die repeatedly in a game for the first time in your life

Nice Game of the Year 2009 this game deserves it best platnium i have ever earnd. I like the tutorial boss I actutlly managed to kill him as a wanderer and then *Spoiler alert* I was like Whoo what next haha then the giant Dragon God was next and i was X_X and then he killed me

Demon's Souls is bloody brilliant. Great choice, GS, I completely agree with you. UC2 is of course great as well, but this, this is a game I'll cherish forever.
