I just recently got my copy of Midway Arcade Treasures 3 for PS2. Race Drivin' is frustrating as hell on that version. It lags, it screeches WAY too much, and the control isn't that great, so you have to do everything perfectly or you crash. I've never played this on the actual machine, but I'm assuming it's much better, since people seem to really like this game.
i played the crap out of this, trying stunts like crazy, good game for sega, this game does not suck compared to a lot of them out..just bad engine but what you expect
This game was the BEST. I played this game for hours (Aladdin's Castle Raleigh NC) so much, I ended up getting a job there. I kept high score on this for ever! I think from like 1991 until I left the company almost five years later. The BEST game, wish it had better graphics though. Still couldnt find anyone beat my score. :)
man when i was a little kid i loved that game. as a treat, every firday when my mom and i would pickup the mail, we stop at the bowling ally next door and i d play a game.
Hey!! that game was amazing for its time!! Many of us used to spend hours and hours playing that great arcade game! and that shitty music ruins all sound effects!!
...wait r u serosuly dssing a game that's history? this was the first 3d racing siulator ever! i'd liketo see you make your own engin and build a better game with the same hardware limits!
I agree totally mate, well said, kinda below the belt slagging off the pyhsic system of a 20 year old engine, I think it's amazing for it's time, all those clocks in front of you, the gear stick, the clutch, I loved this game, Many other games were racing, this was an expereince.
this was one of the first to feature polyphonic/geometric graphics-it was WAYYYY ahead of other games in 1990. It was actually fun to see how many times you could flip it unintentionally-this game RULED back then; I'm still trying to find one for my house-I could beat every level :-)
When I first saw this video, I seriously thought to myself, "Worst Game Ever". But now, I realize for it's time, it was revolutionary. I nominate it for "Worst Aging of a Game".
People poke fun at this game's physics today, but this game (particularly Hard Drivin') raised the level of 3D graphics. This game was ahead for it's time.
I remember a long line of people waiting to try their luck with these games. It was a very attractive game and should earn respect.
But man, c'mon. That game's from the 80's, it was one of the first polygonal 3D games ever, and the first racing simulator ever. It's really awesome for its time.
I learned how to powershift on this game when i was 6. It truely taught you how to drive a manual transmission. Anyone who played it will tell you the same
i think if a game can teach you how to shift a car at 6 years old + display groundbreaking 3D graphics (in the 80s), this game deserves more respect (not bashing) than most game out there.
ok 1st of all im going to speak my opinion this game does not suck the CRASHES are bad becouse youre not suppose to crash however the physics when your drivin are good
2nd the game was made in freakin 89 so the physics arnt suppose to be like gta or somthin
I so hate this game! I played on Midway Arcade Treasures Vol. 3 for the PS2. I can't even drive/accelerate in the darn game! No matter if I choose AT or MT transmission. It sucks!!!!!!
Midway fucked up this game in their Arcade Treasure conversion. Try the MAME one (provided you really have a powerful PC) and you'll see it plays just like the arcade.
Judging from your comment, you have played the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version. None of the other versions let you do this. It's the only other Hard Drivin' game other than Hard Drivin' 2: Drive Harder, which was released for the PC, Amiga, and Atari ST, that lets you create your own tracks. I also seem to remember Hard Drivin' 2 having a much more robust track editor than Race Drivin' on the Genesis/MD.
Actually, no, it's Race Drivin, it's the sequel to the Hard Drivin, theres no much difference, just more graphical and more tracks, type it in on you tube and you see what I mean.
I would always crash into the cow. Yes the game was very poor, however, the most fun I had with it was measuring the distance that I would bounce back after hitting an object ha ha so fun the faster you went into something the futhur you would bounce back. Obviously the best results came from the desert yellow car. I thinks its the fastest in the game if I am correct.
I had this game and I liked it, but that was because I was five years old at the time, and thought that the fact that the game was in 3d made it good.
This game is hard, however once you get use to it, it is really fun(in the arcade with a proper steering wheel). You could actually feel the understeer, lift-throttle oversteer and all that.
The game is great in the arcade versions. The driving shown here is really limited. We played this so much we were doing amazing things like speeding up the vertical, popping the clutch on a low rpm to create a forward pitch, then flying over perfectly landing vertical on the downside....it is so fun.
Funny thing happened on a game like that. After I respawn from a crash, as soon as I hit the gas, I fell through the road for 10 second until I crash.
I have no problem with the game itself just found the weird stuff you can do on it funny, and this is the version for the arcades just played on the gamecube with arcade treasures three.
I remember this game. I hated it even back then.
