It´s was on their second album, back in 1987 called ´Actually´. This is a version that´s mixed with Minimal, which is from the Fundamental album from 2006. ;)

Just finised this for music tech..Blegh.

Basssynth: Combined Electric Piano and Slap Bass

Aah sounds: Talking synth and Scream Distruction, with attack softened

Pad: Sampled Trumpet trio with softened attack and long sustain

Vocoder for the chorus.

Sampled bell at the end.

Drum kit assembled from various modified samples.

All done in Cubase, with Reason4 supplying the sounds.

I'm not uploading though, as aparently they've disqualified people before for doing similar things.

@TheCrystalDuck Cubase and Reason is excellent to use - I used that, Prologue (which came with Cubase) and a few others - did you use an actual vocoder for yours, or just a synth sound?

@nervusboy I actually love this song. But I remember alot of people hating this. Music Technology is a subject done at A-Level (Advanced Level) in England and Wales. This counted towards the coursework unit, and the idea was to take this song, and emulate it as best you can using software programmes like Logic Pro, Cubase etc. I spent so much fucking time on this and got an E for it =/

The Pet Shop Boys heavily used synths and programmed drum tracks which lend themselves incredibly well to software instruments you use to recreate the song in MIDI form, you can get really close to the original song. That's why.
