How can you mark the video as ''Dressage'' when obviously every dressage rider doesn't train their horse in that kind of way? I mean, FINE if it somewhere said ''Well, I don't mean that this specifically IS dressage''. Because it just isn't. That's something else, inhuman.Dressage is moving WITH your horse, not on it. Dancing through tiny movements in your and the horse's body. THIS is NOT dressage.
pathetisch.
OUCH! I'm a dressage rider and this rider, though a high level rider, is performing the highly criticized and cruel Rollkur - where the horse practically bites its chest. Not nice riding!
The horse isnt moving like that because he's wearing heavy shoes!! He's been trained to move that way! The only thing wrong here is the hyperflexion! Amazing footage by the way :)
horses are not bred for this... they are not meant for this... how would you like it if we made you bend down and crawl on your hands and knees, huh? You wouldn't enjoy it much because your not MEANT FOR THAT.
Love how the end of the video shows the slack and looseness of the reins. Actually the roundness and movement of the horse is created by energy from the seat and legs, and not by pulling on the reins :)
at the beginning she was a bit weird trying to control the horse but at 1:12 the left hand picture thingy shes not even using the pellum (Which is the bit that hurts them) she is using the snaffle. You can tell as she has nearly a loop on teh pellum rein. But i have to agree the beginning i dont no wat she was doing.
@Jaide6 at the beggining she was using rollkur, overbending the horse as a 'training' (torture would be more accurate) method. the second bit on a double bridle isn't a pelham (not spelt pellum by the way) it's a curb. the simple snaffle does hurt the horse, it smashes the roof of the mouth and puts intense pressure on the bars, while the curb uses polll pressure and hits the jaw with the curb chain.
I'm think in the description you should atleast point out that this is "rollkur" and is a method only used by SOME of the riders out there (not always dressage riders either, some reiners use it too!)
There ARE dressage riders out there who ride with light hands. In fact, one of the major goals to aim for in dressage is to ride the horse from back to front...meaning more leg and seat then hands.
Volgens mij weet Anky héél goed waar ze mee bezig is, dus vooraleer er zo over te doen,.. Denk daar maar eens over na :) Ze is niet zomaar olympisch kampioene geworden hoor!
I could do w/out that extremely tight neck flexflion- and althoguh all my horses are barefoot, and i truly believe in going barefoot (I do 50 mile endurance rides)
I thought the horses landing of heel first and then toe, with the paw back was good. The grass didn't allow for too much concusion. I hate that over controlled type of riding- lets see what they can do w/out a bit or saddle on that horse??
Bits need to be banned along with idiot riders who have no understanding of the pain they inflect on the horse. I enjoy watching any riding done bitless. Happy horse and better rider. BAN THE BIT.
i am one to say that i belive in a good snaffle, the strongest bit ive ever had in one of my horses is a bubble bit and we wont allow big bits on the yard, however, we are also a family to beleive if you need it and it works well and the horses is enjoying himself in work then go for it, all our horses would NOT be happy in a bitless bridle, its suicide with some horses..... yet again a good rider and right hands ie: our family, wouldnt hurt a horse mouth... AT ALL!
this surely doesn't demonstrate any kind of horsemanship. But it also doesn't demonstrate a good hoof landing. Because of the heavy weight of the shoes you can see the feet flapping out too far to the front, especially at 1:04. The forces on the hooves are too big.
I *think* I see it. I'll have to watch and watch and watch some more.
I always had my horses cared for, and I somehow never learned much about feeding or shoeing. I just relied upon good hired help to work their magic.
So, these dressage people, they are weighting their shoes, similar to Americans showing their Tennessee Walkers and Saddlebreds, to obtain a flashy stride?
The reason this is so bad is the way they force the horse to hold its head. It is uncomfortable and painful for the horse its like pinning you head to your chest and it creates problems with bone structure. It is used widely in all equestrian sports but even more so in dressage as a vile 'training tool'... It makes me feel sick :(
Kitty - yes I totally agree. I don't know what allowed the "dressage" of today to replace the actual classical art, where finished horses were so light and responsive they seemed almost telepathic.
If you've ever ridden a horse like that, well....it is a "return to Eden" feeling that lifts you to the stars.
My horse works very well without any of these so called dressage training methods he works correctly on the bit and is lazy but still tries when he knows you mean business. I don't see why they have the 'need' or even would want to use this :(
that looks so stupid. why do some dressage riders have to force these methods upon their horses just so they can learn to collect faster? rollkur is ruining the image of a wonderful sport.

Arno8 - I don't know how to rate this.
If you are showing how a high heel causes a perfect hoof landing, it's a brilliant 5* vid.
If it is attempting to demonstrate harmonious Horse-Man-Ship, it's a 1* vid, at least to me. :-P
