A realidade de nosso país é realmente trist! Mas não é devido a esses problemas que deixarei de amar minha terra! Somos ricos, sim! Nossa cultura é tão diversificada e linda. Somos tão ricos em natureza. Mas infelizmente a maioria de nós não damos valor a nada. Já tive em outros lugares do mundo e prestigiei a organizacao dos mesmos. No, you're seeing it all wrong. The favelas population have been growing over 20% a year since the '90s, without proper planning or control, while the rest of Rio grew less than 5%. It ruins the forest.
That means more people under control of drug traffic, making it all more difficult for the Government to show up. Recent politicians stopped ignoring favelas and started to care about them, ceasing that plague-alike rate. We could just spread poison and contraceptives in the water, but, instead..

@MrEricenriquez sorry to hear that man. its getting worse im my hometown too. luckily i live on the "good" side. ive only had a handful of really close brushes with them, but each time it was scary. i will say it though, besides my chosen career path, if it didnt work out, then i would go into law enforcement. and no paper pushing or highway patrols! i want to be right in the action where i actually feel like im making a difference, and i can confidently say i am willing to risk my life

@machinmaman87 Thats good man, i hope you do become a cop, my neighorhood isnt bad bad, but alot of minorities have been moving in since the last 5 years, hispanics and some blacks, im not rasist or anything but you know how not all o them act, hispanics and blacks with their gangbanger culture, doing drugs etc, i got almost jumped by some hispanic thugs which where teens but escaped. My neighborhood was a really calm place, mostly polish italian russian and ukranians lived in my neighborhood.

In ten years all these slums will be cleared out and replaced by high priced properties and condos..it started with control over electricity ..propaganda about gang rule ..which I am sure is somewhat correct in some areas, but rthis has always been the case ..why the concern now? because they want that property. developers are drooling over the profits they can make off those views...and thats all there is to it. wHAT A JOKE.The problem with Rio has been politics and governement which are the main ingredients for corruption.IMO force them out put them back on buses to the northeast of brazil.They need to reclaim or else that wall will just be a wall within a favela.Rio needs to reclaim that land to keep from breeding the next cluster of crimes.Brazil is too last minute when it comes to strategy.Favelas are a disease that just grows.Time to cut off a limb to save face.

I was born in Rio, still I support the construction of those walls, it might sound harsh but the best thing they do is really to stop the decontrolled spread of the slums and the road walls make even harder for carjackers, kidnappers, other criminals along people wanting to cross the high ways and cause havoc.
The segregation always existed even before the walls, in the form of gated communities, those walls just made it more obvious.
Like it or not, Rio needs those walls.
