this one is overheating too, I have one from almost one year and is becoming so hot that is melting the plastic on top of it. to find a proper cooler is a real challenge, I'm currently use NZXTCryo LX, but the best cooling results I have obtained with an "overclocked" Titan TTC-G6TZ (9V instead of 5V) which was also very loud

@californiadajatt had the same problem with my zd8000. dust getting into the laptop is the problem. try vaccum-ing the area where the cooling fan is located. it worked for me :) and/or any other spaces where dust could get thru.

IMO, HP have the best laptops in terms of aesthetics. So choices are between the dv8 and the envy (15 is way cheaper than the 13). The dv8 has a massive monitor so isn't actually portable, whereas the envy has a smaller (15.6") monitor and is better to actually be carried around..

You didnt say one word about the what graphics card NVIDIA put in this machine, I mean, can you play COD6 in very high resolutions? If you are going to play BRs in this laptop, you'll need a decent graphics cards.

@shiond123 if you're going for "bigger is better" but "still want a portable laptop", i'd go for a 17.3". i think of that as ideal. i'd go to a local best buy or something, and take a look at some; if that's too big for your taste, you should probably go for a 15.6". all laptops are different, though, keep that in mind (:

I received my dv8t on Monday January 4th and on Tuesday January 5th I momentarily saw the blue screen of death.  Then I permanently saw the black screen of death. So I returned it. Now I am looking at purchasing a Toshiba Qosimo X-505 Q850 or 880 instead.

Any laptop this size is a desktop replacement. I would not be looking to go shlep this around outside.

I agree also we need a review, i have read posts in the hp forums where they talk about broken bios issues in envy 15 and dv6t quad and also that turbo mode is not working on i7 cores. Things like that doesn't encourage me buy this laptop, maybe this processors are to new to make them work right and next year or who knows when you will be able to buy a 3ghz that can go to 6ghz with no problems.

ah thats good! may have had a nice thermal paste on there or a different cooling. I was just referring the G51 series and some other of Asus series which have major heating issues. Go to notebookreview and check it out for yourself. Lots of screenshots of hair singing temperatures. Someone can boil water on the temperatures that the GPU puts out. Asus also downclocks the GPU because of this.

It's a solid machine. If you use it for casual gaming then it works. However, for intense laptop gaming you want a better GPU. The 230m is rather weak compared to GTX 260m or even a 240m
