no, it's because "decent sound quality" comes from spending alot of money, not having musical talent. This is extreme metal from almost 20 years ago, and the sound quality adds to the music. Trust me, if they were to remake this album now with better sound quality I guarantee it would not give the same dark presence that this version pulls off. I'd say that it actually has pretty good quality compared to most BM that's not bullshit.
@rapmetaldemon09 i think it could still have the same athmosphere with better if it's done right. it's possible to have this cold athmosphere with a very comprehensible mix. one exemple is wintersun. tough it's not black metal, it is very athmospheric. dissection had a pretty good mix too. or utgard. but i agre, sound quality doesnt make music.

Stayed up all night listening to Satyricon, Emperor, Immortal, Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, Gorgoroth, Dissection, and Mayhem all night. Left the heater off and made it all cold in the house. And with this on it dropped 10 more degrees. Fucking great night.
Who is comparing Metallica and Emperor? Apples and oranges are both good. This was my first experience with Scandinavian black metal, and one of my favorite songs to play as well. Emperor will always reign over black metal!

@vargulver You are absolutely right, there is so much abundance of music that every song becomes "consumed" and used and thrown away. But i think true listeners really care and listen to this and other great bands like if there was no tomorrow. I don't mind new guys dig into black metal, really, we're such few that it's nice to speak with someone with our tastes. When i say "Black Metal" to people around me, the only thing they really hear is the word Metal, and dismiss it.

@vargulver I'm with you on this one. If people aren't going to listen to the music with all of their mind and take it seriously, then they should stay away to begin with. Ignore all the haters. They're just pissed because they know that they are guilty of listening to this music with only one ear.

Stayed up all night listening to Satyricon, Emperor, Immortal, Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, Gorgoroth, Dissection, and Mayhem all night. Left the heater off and made it all cold in the house. And with this on it dropped 10 more degrees. Fucking great night.
