I have two dogs; a Golden and a Border Collie. The Golden is much more loving, affectionate and social. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone. My favourite breed definately. But if you are talking 'intelligence' he is not even close to being as smart as my Border Collie.

I was walking to my house from my friends house the other day and a golden retriever ran up to me and started rubbing on itself on me and I didnt kno if it was trying to bite me cuz it was trying to put my hand in its mouth and started going all crazy. I shot it twice in the head with my co2 bb semi auto and it ran off.
@canucksallday Ok, I know you're just a troll, and I shouldn't feed the trolls, but maybe this will educate people other than you. Golden's have a soft mouth, meaning that they generally do not bite down. This was bred into them as hunting dogs so that they could retrieve game without ruining it. Goldens can even carry around raw eggs. However, this trait does make them a bit mouthy. They probably won't bite, but an excited, untrained golden may bat your hand around with his mouth.
@canucksallday It's annoying, but it won't hurt you. It's best just to stand still and let the excited dog calm down. As for the dog rubbing himself on you, I think you are referring to the "golden lean". Goldens, when they want to be petted, tend to come over and lean more and more on you until you are supporting them. Most people find it very snuggly. So basically, this dog was just excited to see you and wasn't dangerous. Shooting it with a bb was a dick move, but I'm sure you knew that.
@CodeMaster9000 well, they're basically the same, it's just that Labs need a little less cleaning up after, as they have shorter fur and don't shed as much. But, I, being a Golden Retriever owner, like Goldens for their attractive looks. Remember NOT to buy your dog at a pet store, but instead from a breeder. They're much cheaper, and got to run around in the house their whole life, so is much happier and energetic. There are a lot more choices, and the dog is usually much happier and trainable.
@kfag101 that is an actual fact--I've had 3 dobermans, 1 shepherd and I just put my retired assistance golden retriever "Utah" down Sept 7/10. He became lame, and it was found that he had cancer in his left rear knee, so the decision was made, with the greatest sorrow. He would have been 11 yrs old Oct 31/10. The unfathomable love and fun are hard to put into words. I want another golden in the worst way, but I cannot. I have been truly blessed~!

You cannot imagine (yes, you can!) how much this grieves the both of us--the park has changed hands 2x

You have to feed it fruits & vegetables at an early age so it's use to eating fruits and vegetables.You must give it dog vitamins and feed it high quality dog food,like Eukanuba. If you want to take it a step further,give the dog alkalized distilled water.I guarantee you your dog will never die from cancer.

@ForeverFawn My Golden Retriever doesn't shed at all. I don't think any really do. Maybe if they are getting rid of there winter coat in the spring/summer or something maybe. I'm new with dogs. But they aren't dogs that shed a lot.

This is so hilarious! I have a 4 month old Golden Retriever puppy. His name is Hunter and he's the cutest dog in the world!

@sweetheartChristina I think Golden's are gorgeous. I've thought about getting one. I would want to keep it inside with me but do they shed a lot? Even if they do it would be a small price to pay.

@ForeverFawn My Golden Retriever doesn't shed at all. I don't think any really do. Maybe if they are getting rid of there winter coat in the spring/summer or something maybe. I'm new with dogs. But they aren't dogs that shed a lot.

@ForeverFawn They are awesome dogs for sure. No one will disagree with that! You certainly should get one when you are able to. Watch the Dogs 101-Golden Retriever video. I did when I first got my dog. It's a great video with lots of information.
