I mean.. come on Han solo was originally some sort of green alien thing. but was still a smuggler/pilot. Harrison Ford was only reading the lines with the people going in to audition. Only after did George Lucas decide that Harrison Ford should be Han Solo, because he read the lines really well. So yeah, this was not a published book before it was a movie...

I have the orignal Trilogy that was released on VHS back in the 90's and there is an interview of George Lucas before each movie starts. I believe that he wrote the whole entire story down and said to himself "This is way too big to fit in one movie" so then he explains to the interviewer that he put the first 3 on the shelf and wanted to work with 4, 5, and 6 first. So they were not even books at this point because if you look into the history many things changed before it was a movie.

This would be great if it were the preview for a film, because it shows emotion without showing any form of continuity. If that was the purpose, bravo! However, I can't help but be sad... there was such an opportunity to show continuity, parallelisms, how Luke walked the path of his father yet solved the riddle at the end where his father had been forever stuck. I would sya that the good part of Anakin's soul died when Padme did, but the evil part, Darth Vader replaced it. Though, Anakin's good soul was reborn when the emperor was about to kill Luke and so, when Vader died, it was the good part of Anakin's soul which ruled again.

When you think about it , Anakin and Padme both died together. The boy (Anakin) Padme loved so dearly is no more. Padme dies in childbirth like Anakin predicted. Anakin dies when he is on the table when they put the mask on him. Anakin's soul dies and it is replaced with Darth Vader.

The prophecy was fulfilled through Anakin/Vader... Luke was only the tool. It was Luke who made Vader see the good that was still in him and that HE could destroy the emperor. The Emperor and as does Vader...both underestimate the good that still rested in Anakin. The only reason why Vader did not destroy the Emperor before hand was his being so loyal to him. Vader does not kill Luke throughout the series being his son. Luke begins to bring more of Anakin out of Vader and to fulfill the prophecy
