  • rotten commies

  • Laika only lived for a few hours. The Russian scientist that worked on this project said that Laika didn't even survive traveling 3 times around the Earth (probably not even 2 full times), but back when it was actually happening, the Russian's lied to the World and said she survived for many days. They falsified her heart beats each day for the public to hear and said she was doing okay. I'm glad the truth finally came out. That poor dog.

  • Yes she died of overheating and stress within a couple of hours and then was cremated when the capsule burned up on re-entry. I don't know what was learned from this but it was primates next, and plenty of them. Some of the USA monkeys made it home again. Alpha, now stuffed and on display (film Night at the museum 2) survived to die undergoing surgery to remove an infected electrical sensor. I'm sure he/she would have prefered a bit of fruit and some sunshine instead. My respect to them.

  • She died when the sputnik fel out of orbit and from such high speed the sputnik built up heat from the friction of the air over the capsule and it sadly incinerated Laika.

  • it's good to know that some people like you take the time to do this kind of videos.

very good work, laika deserves more videos like this.

  • So...It was one way ticket huh...

  • @PinkberryFairbanks So what if Laika's a stray? It doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to live. You're a moron without feelings!! You're not a human. Ypu should think of you were Laika. I'd better have no knowledge in astronomy than sending a dog to space to DIE!!! Moron

  • SHE WAS A HERO :"(!

  • she died 4 to 7 hours.

  • @tsukakunzack she had food and water. So mybe a few days.

  • @umahuma4 No, tsukakunzack is correct. She did have food and water, but she died of stress and overheating. There's a malfunction in the satellite so the heat is only available in Laika's cabin. The cabin got too hot and there it goes

  • @PinkberryFairbanks sick fuck

  • trifrarce101,

what is your probablem! FYI uh WE ARE ANIMALS TOO SMART ONE! animals have feelings too! they just cant speak them! they have feeling, thoughts, and they feel pain!

i dont even want to be huhman! all we do is kill and hurt! humans are selfish!

    long live laika <3

  • Comrade Laika, ROCKET DOG!

  • She didn't just die in orbit, the Soviet scientists knew they couldn't bring her back, so they set it up so they could euthanize her when the mission was over, which they did. Honestly, since they didn't set up any provisions for food or water, I think it was more merciful than just letting her die slowly.

  • Actually none of that is correct. They could have brought her back, but they were in a politically-driven race to show superiority. A return system would have taken "too long" to develop. They didn't euthanize Laika. Life support failed when the chamber overheated, slowly baking Laika. The Soviets misled the world about her demise until a few years ago. She died not long after going into orbit.

  • poor Laika...

  • how fucking dear them bastarda do that 2 her she didnt deserv 2 die that nway but we will allways remember her wene we loook 2 the skies

  • Comment removed

  • Ummm... What?!

  • Whats with all these fuckin stupid toons???? I just wanna see a proper docco in Laika. DAMNIT!!

  • In total darkness and chained so she could not turn around, her heart took 3 times longer to rest after launch than a centrifuge ride; she died from extreme overheating and panic just a few hours after the mission started.

The space coffin full of her rotting juices took 5 months to return to earth.

  • Laika was NOT a brave dog... He didn't have a choice! Brave would have been a Ruskie who said, "sure, i'll do it for the Mother Land," somewhat like a Japanese Kamikaze. Bunch of Pu*sies! :) Nice vid though...

  • Agreed. No animal should have to die for human ambitions. Laika was a victim more than a martyr or hero. Someday, i may name a dog after Laika.

  • @SaganAppreciationSoc I agree w/ you. And you know what? I'd better had no knowledge about space rather than sacrificing a dog

  • A great tribute to a great dog. Laika!

  • What can I say that hasn't been said? Wonderful job.

  • SpockBoy is BACK! ^_^ This is amazing, nice to hear the Russian Anthem...brings me back to my Russian roots again. ;P

    That *was* one brave dog.

  • That made me sad, but not too badly. Great job as always!

  • actually the first living creatures to orbit the earth were fruit flies but laika is much more famous...

  • The fruit flies never orbited the earth

  • My heart weeps for that little space mutt. Nicely done. I loved it.

  • They totally screwed Laika, no doubt. Our own NASA does terrible things to animals as well, sometimes directly, sometimes abetting researchers.

  • Whats nothing compared to what china's space program does to people. like the hundreds that died when their rocket blew up most of a village without warning.

  • The difference is, your scenario was an accident/carelessness. What the various nations' space agencies do to animals is *intentional*.

  • well, china didn't give a dogshit for the people that died. they just tried to cover it up and walk away slowly. people eat animals all the time. who cares about them. you can go buy one at the store. You can own them. they are considered possessions. letting a small child overfeed a fish is no biggie. just go to the store and buy a new one. what I'm saying is, WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT ANIMALS.

hundreds of people not associated with the program dying for no reason is unacceptable.

  • What do you mean by "China"? That's like saying the US doesn't care about the Indians they wiped out or the Tuskegee Airmen experiments. Certainly some people do.

Your real point though, seems to be air some speciesist feelings.

It's true that you can buy animals. You can also buy people in many parts of the world. People do eat animals. A few eat the human animal to this day. It's true many people don't give a crap about animals. Apparently you're one of them. Please don't reproduce.

  • you're basing your life, and indeed dedicated your youtube channel to a guy who tried to legalize marijuana. He also used the drug to come up with his ideas and ideals. And yet you don't want the intellectuality superior among us to reproduce. Animals are a commodity. they don't have social status. they are alive, but they survive on the death of others. snakes eat birds and small rodents. owls eat mice. humans eat cows. thats the way it is. Just because I know that, you wish for me to die out?

  • I would speculate that there are a lot of Americans that don't care about the indigenous population. Perhaps you don't live on a reservation?

  • Man that was kick ass as always! I always appreciate the great detail you got to. Like from 00:45 to 00:51, where you have the closer earth & moon moving as if in a 3D environment. They move in different ways than the distant stars. Gawd I suck at explaining this lol. At any rate, fantastic man!

  • No, you explained it perfectly. I know EXACTLY what you mean, and thanks for noticing!

    I really appreciate the feedback.

  • you are so good at this wonderful...

  • thanks buddy.

    : )

  • Nice to see you back, SpockBoy! You've been gone too long. A ery ice tribute as well. Touching but not maudlin. I think Laika would be wagging her tail in approval.
