  • 5 people are just plan jealous!!!!!

  • I think he can play even with the ass!

  • Whoever thinks this is the best drummer in the world clearly hasn't heard any other people play the drums. This guy is nothing special.

  • @MatthewLeisher then start saying all the drummers u know that he cant be compared with.

  • @Yawwrrrrgos Neil Peart, Thomas Pridgen, Buddy Rich, Josh Eppard, Andrew Forsman. I could keep going.

  • @MatthewLeisher Thomas Pridgen has nothing on this guy...Jojo is better. Neil Peart? Seriously? Neil is great in his own way and a master of creativity on a large set but this guy has superior hand technique and a much wider vocabulary of beats. They are completely different but neither is better than the other. Jojo is among the elite of the drumming world.

  • is he flippen off the camera guy @5:22

  • @drumphile no your just stupid

  • @chrispinkification uh...duh...huhu... no, your stupid !!! yeah uh, thats it ! oh wait, I know... he was givin you the finger, not the camera guy. Douche

Cool, lets fight over the internet. that makes good sense.

    Penis hahaha

If your reading this, please ad sarcasm

  • @chrispinkification Aaaawwwww no sense of humor? Are you all butt hurt 'cause I made a funny? Why so serious? Jojo Mayer is a GOD !!!

  • @drumphile i wasn't serious just high.

  • @chrispinkification Then I take back the Douche comment.

  • fuck!!

  • if Jojo Mayer was limited to only playing grooves and no fills in his solos, he will still be better than 99% of the drummers out there

  • only a master drummer would consider playing with a jingle stick.

    Amazing solo

  • i would be fucking dancing man=D

  • Stick flip @ 4:08 is brilliant.

  • NERVE on A38 Ship

  • wow.

  • the best

  • Jojo Mayer doesn't imitate drum machines. Drum machines imitate Jojo Mayer.

  • @slo77y Wrong, mate: drum machines TRY to imitate him, but at no avail

  • @slo77y They do. Drum machines imitate real drums.

  • that stick flip @5:20 looks fuckin insane

  • fucking love the technique.

  • he must´ve been playing for over a year

  • @antibulletdodger101 or since God created time

  • I love this man!

  • play for the roots

  • This is my sound... this is my God :)

  • holy. crap.

  • I love the fact that Mayer uses such few components for his kit and yet produces layers of sound and rhythm that almost defy belief.

Minneman, Lang, Donati and other mega-technical drummers typically use huge kits with double (or triple) bass drums or pedals, vast numbers of toms and cymbals, and electronics as well to achieve their sound. Jojo surpasses all of them with a little kit that would fit in the trunk of a Hyundai. I don't even see a rack tom on this kit. Mayer is one in a million.

  • @flamecolumn However... Imagine him behind a massive kit for an hour.... The possibilities are endless. :)

  • @flamecolumn wait, what? one in a million? Can you really find me 6 500 other beings like him? =|

  • @mangaista you're right....he might be the only one!

I'll tell you another drummer I saw sit down at a four-piece kit and create some deep polyrhythms...Jaimoe from the Allman Brothers. I was in a bar in Macon, GA and his band was playing. He played a solo and with basically nothing more than a kick, snare, ride and hi-hat, he went DEEP, brother! Everybody in that bar was in a narcotic trance when he was done. But, you are right...there is no one like JoJo Mayer.

  • @flamecolumn Don't bother, That was just a little joke about numbers :D I have a lot of respect for drummers, which can handle things right, with basic set. This days, so much of them think, that bigger kit gives you more options. Not right. Without proper skills, it can only ruin the play. And with the proper skills, hh,rd,snare, kick and crash, can manage any music.

  • certainly one the most technically innovative drummers of our time

  • He doesn't miss a note. Fastest drummer???

  • simply the betst drummer ever!

  • 2:48 I am stunned...!

  • All of this is Jazz Technique and it just takes creativity to accomplish what jojo does. Simply. Outstanding.

  • hahahaha

this guy is crazy and genius

  • Never ceases to amaze me!

  • when you compare his videos over the yrs it seems that his grooves get more complicated every yr

  • What a fucking monster...! Ga'damn!

  • they should fire Djs and put him in a club all night

  • @iwant2piece he dj's aswell! does everything!

  • damn..he's a drumming machine

  • WOW!!! Hope some day i can be half as good.

  • nn ha una batteria ha una ferrari!

  • minkia è un genio!

  • hes straight up amazing. i love to watch him play

  • you mean left hand?

  • why?his left isn't...??

  • one man band...

  • How is he doing this sound like in 2:27 , I am talking about that sound like rimshot

  • I believe what you think sounds like a rim shot is what's coming from the tambourine stick... unless I'm just not hearing what you're hearing.

  • @Kurdtttt

are you talking about the triplet? That is moeller technique. 3 hits for the price of one. first stroke downstroke, second upstroke with the wrist, 3rd stroke with the arm . it's ridiculous and advanced. don't try this at home shh :)

  • @PositivelyBored haha well said

  • lol I know moeller technique:D not in half as good as him of course, but I learn it from time to time

  • 2:27

    haha forgot it!

  • it's absolutely mad genius, how this man does this with his left hand i will never understand... godly... jojo your the man hands down.

  • he is def. hands down my all time favorite! Benny Greb being number two of course!

  • drum machines are sucks

    Jojo rules!!!

  • technically good...not bad at all

  • :19 incredible

  • And that one trick.......is drumming.

  • uhhhhh....no.

  • what? are u dumb?

  • this motherfucker is awesome,

    amazing Right?

    i wanna be like him

  • This guy seems like he could put a few drum machines to shame. Breakbeats, ftw!

  • hooo yeah!!!!!

    is amazing men

  • bud

  • Amazing...

  • that hit at 6:00 is like the perfect idea. It is so simple but the rythmic tension it creates is awesome! I love this guy

  • and a 1 E !!

  • ii wanna see this guy do a blast beat. thatd be crazy

  • if you wach the cymbal set up (video by the sabian vault, part2) he does 10 seconds of blastbeat. enjoy..

  • You can see him do some blastbeats when he explains his symbals! He do really crazy blastbeats. Just search it.. Jojo Mayer - Cymbals.

  • thats called a chopper its a great sounding cymbol

  • What is the cymbal all the way on the left that looks like it has notches out of it?

  • I play stuff like 4:02 quite a lot. But I'm not that quick with my left hand so It doesn't sound as cool :(

  • and for an un micd kit, sounds amazinggg

  • what are the two crashes hes using like the half finished, unfinished and the one all the way to right, sound so nice, so do the hats

  • This is simply extraordinary !

  • I just looove the "flam rimshots" round 4:30

  • Yeah me too, it almost starts to sound like clapping.

  • What size is his side snare?

  • i believe its a 10"x2" jungle snare from sonor. his main is the sonor artist 13"x5" earth snare.

  • killa rhythm beater

  • Jojo is the Buddy Rich of today. My favourite drummer of all time

  • +5000

  • The greatest living drummer? I think so.

  • @babyshambler and u are 2nd with your keith's covers ;)

    great showman :D

  • @blapis89

    =)

  • wow.... at like... 5:17 he flips his left stick back stright... awesome. He is the rythem king!

  • 5:28 all the way up to end, this dude just bleeds rythm.

  • my favorite part is when he takes the shaker

    this is just awesome

  • man, i want those hats and his ride soooooooooooo bad. killer stuff, as usual.

4:02 may be quite simple, but it still has that badass backbeat to it. love the rest of the vid too

  • Man if I played the stuff at 4:02 it wouldn't be THAT cool.

But Jojo makes it magical. It's insane. But I'm ok with it.

  • Holy shit, that's one killer left hand @ 2:47.

Jojo's been my favorite for a couple years now. His chops are unparalleled by any other drummer I've ever seen.

His approach to drumming is great it's like form follows function. He needs to make a certain sound, so he finds a way to make it happen. Fantastic.

  • GREAT!

  • NO-ONe better than this Man... the best in my book

  • This guy has amazing one handed rolls

    just listen to the beginning

  • wow after 2:45 intense drumming

  • nn vale un cazzo, suono meglio io

  • this guy has the sickest sticking and snare techniques ive ever seen, u can see the buddie rich influence. This is the newest druming style ! the relm of D&B modern drumming ! this is what drums have evolved into. mayer is king of the break beat

  • The drummer,,, Damn,, I want to play like him.....!!!!! Killed it !!!! ---- crowd sux,,don't really appraise the drummer as he should be !!!!!!

  • That man ... is allah

  • dont kill yourself.

  • Amazing skill. Standard to reach. Also liking his thai shirt.

  • HOLY FUCK

  • This man is incredible to say the least.

  • sry more like 12 inch

  • what kind of cymbal is he hitting...

on 4:30! i like that one!

  • its a chopper ... sabian of course... looks like 14 inch

  • looks like a 12 to me.

  • his hihats are 13", right? the chopper looks smaller

  • 6:20

    :o

  • Pure dopeness!!

  • what size is the el sabador picante crash

  • 18"

  • 05:40 - 06:58 Alien Stuff!!

  • this is possibly the best ive seen

    of him

  • the chopper sounds better in the other frankfurt vids

  • wtf that point o0f that chopper thing. it sounds rediculous.

  • Jojo is incredible

  • omg lol where the fuck did he get that stick after he ditched the jingle stick!?

  • I think he had his stick bag wrapped around his floor tom. You may not see on the video, but I am pretty sure that is where he got his spear from. Amazing player do you lot not agree?

  • he's a legend. truly an inspiration

  • The speed of those rolls...incredible

  • he looks like an old crack junky

  • 3:20-4:00...slick.

  • I love this although he has played this exact solo many times before at concerts. Never gets old IMO

  • antibulletdodger:

    they have different styles

its not that one is better

    they just sound different

    both play digitally influenced music

which is influenced by jazz, hip hop, etc.

    and come on guys

    no need for name calling

    fags

  • Haha, no need for name callin' huh?

    XD

  • i think it was a joke.

  • on a lighter note... i like how he finishes off the clinic with a house-y breaks groove. noone does electronic styles like jojo.

  • i somewhat agree. i liked jojo alot more before all the fame he got. his other videos from that moder drummer festival and and earlyer solos and shit are alot better.

  • such flawless control... has he been nominated for a nobel prize yet?

  • wow what an ignorant comment

  • well put :) i hate when people cant appreciate Jojo's style.

  • lol, i dont care how similar his playing sounds, a man with the technique of this guy gets away with it in my books lol.

  • hes playing drum'n'bass grooves... an electronic music genre. its essentially a genre played almost exclusively by djs, consisting of drum samples thrown together in repeating alternating patterns. while to you it all sounds the same, hes changing it up a lot more than a DNB song would. if you listened to the music hes emulating you'd know. i suggest you hear some, in the event that you enjoy this style of playing.... and then come back to these vids if you'd like to try and appreciate this.

  • i dunno dude ive been listening to dnb for years and personally that sounds just right, if not even more progressively pieced together than usual. it would take a long fucking time to either figure out how to spin and beatmatch that, or to program it on a drum machine... theres a difference between knowing what a genre is and knowing how to play it and/or knowing djs who spin it.

  • on top of that... ALL drummers playing this style on an acoustic kit... will technically be doing an 'acoustic imitation'... since almost always, with the exception of very few artists, DNB is made exclusively with electronic resources.

playing styles considered, if anything, Johnny adds even more outside influence than Jojo............. So really, you should probably just not say anything more and count your losses before your opinions make you sound like an even bigger fool.

  • Remember that part about letting things go before you sound like a fool? Yeah well you pretty much just blew that chance.

It's not that I dont agree with you... mr opinion man who isnt 14... it's that I am an educated drummer myself, and I know what Im talking about. if youre gonna post a bunch of opinions about a fellow musician that i know are unfair... I'm gonna correct them.

I called you out, you took the time to insult me for it... thats fine. if anything you just sound even stupider.

  • Oh you´re gonna correct them, mr know-it-all! that´s so gay.. Can it even become more PATHETIC, mr underaged internet-professor. Aren´t you supposed to be in school. I bet you are a lousy drummer, dork.

  • Very mature, mr. not a 14 year old.

And yes, that IS what I did just DO you little shithead. And that IS why you have noting left to say regarding what we were originally talking about.

What awesome comeback do you have for me this time, mr 14 year old of such wit and intelligence? Dig deep dude... lets hear it. I'll bet its a real knee-slapper.

  • WE weren´t talking about anything. YOU are trying to tell me what I should think of Jojo Mayer and you have no saying in that whatsoever. Why don´t you go do something usefull insted of trying to debate people you don´t know about matters which are not important you retard.

  • first of all... if we both replied all of these times, thats us talking. second, never once did you use either expression "in my opinion" or "i think"... you just posted a bunch of slanderous bullshit, half of which i still cant make any sense out of.

Im not trying to debate anything... and i dont care what you really think deep down, i just wanted to make sure you knew that you were wrong. and now youve been told... made a fool of, and finally reminded of how you were told and made a fool of.

  • watch?v=uy5eAbGJwGs

I don't even like him for this DnB stuff, I love his modern jazz stuff.

  • check also the video @ "swiss beach 2008"

  • It would be cool to see him play with Herbie or Chick or in any jazz setting you might see Dave or Vinnie usually get...

  • I have seen those vids I was speaking specifically about herbie or chick.

  • This guy has to be a prodigy

  • the original drum machine!! ^^^

  • ouaouououououo

  • dude plz someone tell me what that flat looking cymbal is called im guessing sabian made it

  • sabian does make it, it's called "the chopper", and it's actually 3 cymbals stacked on top of eachother...

  • Infectious groove.

    The best.

  • jojo mayer is the best out now period

  • insane !
