@OhMyMariel I'd personally recommend the Xacti HD1000 if you want to do things with the clips you film quickly. The quality may not be as good as the Canon, but it's quite close, yet it's cheaper and a lot smaller. That's why we use it for Gear65.
the quality looks amazing. however i do notice some sort of choppy lines throughout the video, specifically during fast motions. is this normal or is this a con about the camera.
can anybody pls tell me how i can take a pictuere with this camera whiles am recording a movie at the same time i knw is possible but i just dnt knw how to do it pls thanks
i just got the US version of this camcorder, the Vixia HF20.
Its an amazing piece of machinery, worth every penny I spent on it and the various accessories.
My only complaint is that I do not have a computer powerful enough to do quality editing of HD footage, so I have to settle for SP when I want to do edit-excessive projects.
Great review guys; makes me feel better about my buying decision.
wow! this is one of the best vids ive seen covering the canon legria/vixia hf200. great job! im looking into this one alot and am actually saving up for it. im hoping to get it online for $550, its $600 in stores. thanks again for the upload!
How is the quality of the buildt in mic? I saw another video on youtube where a guy said that there was a lot of dust/backgroundnoise on the recordings?
You can hear for it yourself in the video where we used the camera. It's quite alright actually, but like all mics it does get noisy when there's wind.
We're not audiophiles, so we can't really comment exactly how good the audio is, but if you're not an audiophile then it shouldn't matter to you too.
Great review, good facts and tips, excelent video test, respect for that.
Now I collecting money for HF S10, probably fantastic camera, but in my part of the worl is quite expensive.
But I have question, because on your video is very nice titles :-) Wich program you use for this titles (like the shade on it), and what is the best selection of programs for editing materials from that canon ?
We actually used iMovie 09 on a Mac to do all the editting of our shows as they allow us to do advance techniques very quickly. Adobe Premiere Elements is an affordable program for Windows to edit HD videos.
@kingleo42042h well man I just bought the HF S10 for christmas, so once I get it going, I'll upload some footage maybe the weekend... then compare it with the HF20... i think there is quite the difference in a bigger CMOS sensor.... get the HF S10
24 Mbps... but the question is, HF200 or HF20, do you want internal memory or a memory stick that you can remove and plug into your computer for faster transfering of videos?
Sorry, but the review was too long ago for me to recall the battery life precisely. It's about the same as most camcorders though.
Light plays an important role in any camera/camcorder, not just in this camera. That's what I meant. Not many camcorders or cameras can do low light scenarios.
If you want to do a rock concert, you'll have no problem, because the stage is usually very lit up so the camera can capture it. Most concerts are actually quite bright, unless it's in a badly lit bar etc.
It's a smaller HDMI port/plug for portable devices. Officially it's called the HDMI Type C connector. It requires a converter to connect with TVs. Check it out on Wikipedia in the "HDMI" entry, under section 2.1.
Wow, this was the best camcorder review I've seen yet!! I'm looking for one. I was thinking of this one but I'm not sure anymore because it only does 1920 by 1080. :( I'm not sure if that's a big problem but I won't know.
Haha, that's a very specific scenario. This camera does have macro, and you can do close ups very well, so you can certainly film ants. However, don't expect to be able to do things like those documentaries you see where the ants become huge on the screen. You need a very special camera for that.
I'm no expert, but I think lighting plays quite a big role. If you go outdoors under sunlight, like we did in the first clip, do you still not get the clear video?
Lately I'm been shooting in TV 1/100 and its been coming out clear, and then i put it sony vegas and do some color correction, and a light sharpen on it.
I have last question...if you don't mind me asking. When I zoom in on something why does it tend to lose focus on what I am zooming in on? I have it on auto focus and I zoom is slowly...anyway to not lose focus?
It's possible that the object you're filming might be difficult to focus on, or that there isn't enough light. That happens a lot to me when I'm filming something that's very reflective or when I'm in a low-light place.
We used nothing but iMovie 09. The font is the default font, can't remember which one it is. Didn't see a need to use a fancy font or a different one.

I installed the discs and to get my footage to my pc it looks like I have to convert it to mpeg. Does it affect the quality at all?
Ultrareallism 2 years ago
Does this happen as you are importing the footage into your PC, or you just happen to need to convert it to mpeg?
If the application that came with the camera is the one that is requiring to convert to mpeg, then it shouldn't affect the quality.
65bits 2 years ago
Only when converting, but I figured it out.
I have last question...if you don't mind me asking. When I zoom in on something why does it tend to lose focus on what I am zooming in on? I have it on auto focus and I zoom is slowly...anyway to not lose focus?
