The Skyline itself was never released in America but new models (past the 10th gen) are now released under Infinity brand as the the G35 and G37 and these are still called Nissan Skylines in Japan. So the Skyline GT-R actually split into two vehicles the Nissan GT-R and the Infinity G35/G37. This isn't hard people obviously this car has some relation to the Skylines but it isn't one.

I think the new Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Gullwing would shit all over the R35 in every way including looks, build quality, interior quality, performance, safety, stopping power ect ect. Theres not much if anything to like about the r35 in my opinion. If i wanted a skyline, i'd get an r34 gtr coz from the factory they look ok. looks more muscular than the r35.

WOW...SERIOUSLY? the GTR-R35 IS NOT a Skyline. It is no longer based on the skyline range because the body is now round instead of rectangular. American and European mechanics helped make the body. this R-35 uses VR-38 engine instead of the old RB-26 used in the Skyline R-32 to R-34. I admit the car does look good, but i think the original skyline looks best.

It is not labeled as a skyline.

Its true that it was created as the successor to the R34. But Nissan chose to not call it a Skyline to try and sever the ties with the previous skyline sedans that the r34 and below where derived from. They were simply a 2 suped up two door version of the basic skyline sedans.

Nissan designed this one to be a pure sports car from the ground up. So they took out the Skyline label and simply called it the GTR.

I think they didn't call it a skyline because a skyline was first meant to be a sport car with several versions with the GT-R as the most powerful with 280hp.

The currently one known as GT-R R35 got 480hp in its first version, it's so a supercar and lost its skyline name.

I don't know why you keep calling the R35 a Skyline when Nissan said it isn't the Skyline anymore? The R35 is now a separate car leaving the Skyline name behind. That is why you don't see "Skyline" on the car any more unlike its predecessor: R32, R33, and R34 Skyline GT-Rs. Yes, the Skyline was first introduced as a sedan in the early 1960s, but it wasn't till 1969 that the GT-R nameplate first appeared. The GT-R model trim represented performance and sport for the Skyline line up.
