LMAO I thought it was a great ONE TIME idea, but making him do it over and over is ridiculous. Part of La Parka's awesomeness was that he spoke with gestures/dancing (and his chair of course). Need to chair shot the creative team for this!
Always preferred the original skull costume instead of the Darth Maul one, but I guess I can blame AAA for that. Stupid storyline here. Like said, it was fine when WWF did it with Kaientai because they weren't over while here, Parka was mega over with the fans for the little dance he would do and the chair shots
Thats not even La Parka thats L.a. Park bcuz la parka's mask has a red scar in the front of his forehead and he is also a Mexican and l.a. park is a white dude
@14k90 ESTE NO ES LA PARKA ES L.A. PARK (ADOLFO TAPIA EL ORIGINAL) FUE LA PRIMER PARKA EN MEXICO PERO LE QUITARON EL NOMBRE POR ESO CAMBIO AL DE L.A. PARK
@14k90 1. L.A. Park is the original La Parka that performed in WCW. 2. Of course he's Mexican! Why do you think he didn't speak English like Rey Mysterio Jr. did?
@OnlyOneTyping This is true. La Parka was already over with the US crowd and this just pissed him off to quitting. "IN-DEED" got Kaientai over when they weren't before.
I read online that he got PISSED because Ferrera wanted him to "say" even stupider stuff in a match against Buff Bagwell. He threw down the mic while the voice kept going and he quit that same night (but since the man is a true professional, he still wrestled and put on a good match)
As best I recall, Russo wasn't booking at the time this gimmick started. Anyway, it moved La Parka from a guy in a neat costume who occasionally jobbed in openers to a guy who was fairly over and working the mid-card. I don't see how this was bad for him.
In fact, the WWF later used nearly the same gimmick for Kai En Tai. It got them over too.
Ferrara was demoted from to road agent after the Russo/Bischoff reboot in April 2000. Ferrara's lack of involvement in creating the shows meant that the gimmick was dropped. La Parka went back to Mexico.
Taka Michinoku elected to return to Japan after suffering an injury, and Funaki's dubbing wouldn't work without his teammate. Still, Funaki ended up with a WWE Cruiserweight Championship run.
By the way, Funaki and La Parka are both in their forties.
Anyway, a lot of guys who were very over in 2000/2001, and are still wrestling, are not mainstream stars anymore. Bob Holly, Billy Gunn, Brian Christopher, and Rikishi are easy examples.
should have smacked the other guy with a chair

It's funny. When Kaientai did this, I couldn't get enough of it. (INDEED). When they do it here, I'm annoyed.

@Dynaman21 because when Kaientai did it, it was funny. When WCW did it they ruined an established star

Another example of Ed Ferrara dubbing over the luchadores. This is one of hundreds of reasons why WCW sucked.
