There is a clear difference in practical terms.
Conversion to Islam tends to be a one-way process as conversion away from it (to another faith or none) is discouraged in many islamic cultures by threats against any potential apostate of punitive measures including displacement, disinheritance, exile and death.
Christianity seems relatively free of such protectionist tendencies.

first of all Jesus never called it Christianity. Islam was named by god himself, in fact the word Islam appears in the Quran numerous times. As for the message, Christians believe that Jesus was God and he died for our salvation, however, muslims believe that Jesus is not god and he did not die for our salvation. We have OUR OWN responsibilities as indivuals we shall individually pay for what go or bad that we did in this life.

God called other prophets His son too. read: Luke 3:38, Hebrew 7:3 Psalms 2:7, Exodus 4:22, II Samuel 7:13-14, I Chronicles 22:10, and Jeremia 31:9. including common people read: Deuteronomy 14:1, Matthew 5:45;48 and Romans 8:29. in fact according to II Corithians 6:18 there are sons and daughters of God. The whole point about the violent verses in the Hebrew holy writ as apposed to those in the Quran is that the Hebrew ones are for that instance only (e.g. go destroy the Amorites).
