so people tried refinancing a lot, or selling their houses, or going bankrupt, all of which drove up interest rates on loans and drove down house prices, hurting investment and giving consumers and stock traders cold feet. thus, your recession. hope that helped.

@RhacoD (post 2 of 3) the reason the economy collapsed was due to the housing crisis. a brief description: people defaulted on their loans because they could not pay them. they should not have been given loans in the first place, but the mortgage rules enforced and enacted by fannie mea and freddie mac, passed when the Dems had majority in 2006, required banks to give a certain number of loans to low income households because banks were "discriminating" against them.
