  • Great tip. I'll be using this. There are preferred mesh types if you're in an area with flying foxes, as they can get in a nasty tangle and become injured in some mesh types.

  • That's a really inventive and practical idea! Very cool!!

  • I did a small version of that for my raised beds to use for Winter for plastic or shade in Summer. I must remember that for my trees but I havent seen any cockies around. Bet something will be after my cherries though. Thanks for sharing a great tip.

  • Hey Christian, put your chooks under the netting. They can eat bugs, fertilize your trees and keep down on the grasses.

  • Thats an assume idea. Thanks for sharing

  • That's funny that you are trying to get rid of cockatoos! Here in the US they sell for over 1000 US dollars at a pet shop lol!

  • So I have around US$60,000 worth of Cockatoos and Galahs visit my small garden area every day. In fact one was on my kitchen table the other day . . . they just come in to my home, bold as brass, cheeky chappies!

  • This is an example of a bat and wildlife friendly solution - small mesh, white so it is visible, and stretched over a frame so bats do not get hopelessly entangled and just 'bounce' off. I wish more people would be as thoughtful when it comes to netting. Thanks for posting this

  • Brilliant. We are potting up fruit trees this year and they will need protection from evil birdies. You must have been thinking through my mind as I was debating doing the same to keep the intense heat off the tomatoes and cucumbers.

  • Sucks about the birds, but it's a great idea. If you made it out of smaller screen you could get rid of some bugs too ;)

  • ;-) couldn't you just build a perch for Queenie? J/K my friend...

    Peace

    Gill

  • Good to see you have a camera-lady. ;) Love your videos, as always.

  • looks like a really good idea.

  • hope it works. good idea.

  • is that a full grown tree?

  • whatcha need a bird net for when you got Queenie???

  • Yummm...Gala is my favorite! Beautiful trees!

  • Look at that belly! lol Someone is eating well - lol

Great idea, I'll have to try that this year on my fruit trees, they get massacred by grubs and bugs before the fruit even get a chance. Not too mention crows.

I'm going to use my chickens as weed eaters and pest control this year to see if i can't improve my yields.

Good work M8. Keep it up.

  • Fantastic... Way to innovate, using what you have, think outside the box. 5*****

  • Very good ideas, nice to see you looking so well Christian, keep on posting. p.s. couldn't access the website, any probs?

  • not that im aware of, i just accessed it then to check and it was fine, let me know

  • how about free bendy sticks? that would save some cash

  • We use the same method to cover our citrus from hard frost. Works great.
