As a fan of long distance running, being a runner myself I loved pre for what he accomplished and for what he could have been. Is he the best ever? probably not, was he a terrific runner that accomplished more than many? yes. Pre stood for something that we all can admire, he ran with guts, will and determination, and for us Americans, he was our runner....be well and long live pre....

Prefontaine died leaving an impressive career behind and a career that could have been furthured to the point where he could still be the world record holder in the 5000m today. A short-lived dream ruined. As a distance runner I know what it takes to reach my expectations but no one knew what it was like to live up to pre's incredible expectations for himself.
@itsgoingdown16 Uh, why are you saying this on a video where Pre isn't even racing? And you act as if only Pre had the determination to reach certain expectations. "furthured to the point where he could still be the world record holder in the 5000m today" Please explain this laughable statement. Pre didn't have a hope in hell of having a world record that would last today. His 5000m PB was 13:21.8. His 3 mile was 12:51. Current WR: 12:37 by Kenenisa Bekele. Pre doesn't hold a candle to Bekele.
@heresjohnnnyy1 Nope. Never. You'll have to deal with this little fact forever. Even so, Gammoudi and Stewart also defeated Pre. Do you hate them too?
