the thing is that, yes. its an obligation for us the Koreans guys/men to go to the army at 18, 19, 20, 21, or 22. 2 years is an obligation. but if you want to stay more, after two years, they start to pay you like a job. but you can only get to seargent. to become a higher rank, you need to go to a special military school...

true.... maybe we the koreans keep growing our militaristic power and technology... but as far as i know, Korea HATES to go in war... in vietnam i think they helped the US marines but not with soldiers... just with medic corps and some choppers... they didnt want to take any soldiers to show those people that they were there to help and not to kill or attack

@azwars-That's not true. ROK supplied Marines & Army combat soldiers in Vietnam. I worked with them, they were damm good. Thumbs up to the ROK military.

@azwars South Korea sent 2nd most (312,853men)forces to vietnam war and proven themselves as one of the most effective military force in the world. Recently, the CIA released Viet Cong report saying they are not to engage in battle with South Korean troops unlease there's no way out.

@azwars most well known story would be of "Operation Van Buren." ROKMC platoon of about 13 people wiped out an elite North Vietnamese Army regiment. 2 Koreans died and about 400 north vietnamese were killed. And there werent just viet cong guerilla fighters, these were North Vietnam's best trained troops, but they were completely destroyed by 13 men of ROKMC. But who cares, no one wins in war. We all lost. No one can glorify or justify the killing of millions and pointing gun at own brothers...
