  • Thank you so much for this info I recently did my big cut and have been looking into the loc extensions but the ones that I've seen thus far hasn't been up to par, until now!!!!!!! How long does my hair have to before I can get the extensions done????

  • Can loc extensions be added to already loced hair? My locs are over a year old, and due to my texture, some areas have bunched up a lot tighter than other areas. It's very uneven.

  • piercing in the middle of ur chest? oww!

  • thanks for the quick reply.

I can see using human hair you could

just retwist them like normal. But if you

use synthetic hair it seems like it wouldnt look right?

  • how do you retwist loc extensions.

    Great Video

  • @AKIYIAKELLY the same way you retwist natural locs. you'll actually be retwisting your hair as it grows out, so it's the same method depending on what you choose. retwist, palm roll or interlocking

  • HELL NAW....

  • can you keep the synthetic afro kinky hair in permanently ??

  • @nasyarenee yes!

  • Chesca!!! Thanks for this vid! I just tried starting locs with my own hair with two strand twists.... I have multi-textured hair, and it started looking so terrible. I was afraid of them all swelling to different sizes, etc. This helps a ton!

  • Love it I'm getting mines where I'm from there way cheaper does that mean that they don't no what they doing

  • What kind of hair did you use to do the extensions?

  • they do look nice i dont think i could go that route though as i'm locing my hair now and i'm 4 months for me its not about long hair (all though i do want it long) as this journey keeps going i'm learning more about self.

  • can you use lock extensions to help jump start your locks?

  • @MsJustLovley did you watch the video? that's something we specifically covered

  • How long do they last

  • @luvuhard25 loc extensions can be worn as long as you like. most people wear them to grow out their natural hair into locs. so as your hair grows out you can retwist, palm roll or interlock (depending on the method you feel most comfortable with) your hair so it will loc and form a seamless loc with the extensions.

  • i absolutely hate loc extentions, its not cool to be a cheater! I think the baby loc phase teaches you something (like how to deal when people look at you funny or how to get creative with the lil' bit of hair you have or even just learning to identify with yourself better). If for a job, its ok. but thats my op. (@tiffane973)

  • @nnajj01 you're of course entitled to your own opinion, but what someone else chooses to do with their hair really doesn't concern you. the same way i don't approve of someone judging you for having locs, i don't think it's fair to pass judgement on someone that chooses to get extensions. you have to do what works best for you. and for some people extensions are a better option based on a variety of factors. i encourage you to worry about you and your own journey instead.

  • how much does Terry charge to do the loc extensions?

  • Terry is cute--He has certain vibe to him that attract him to me. I did my loc extensions myself as a protective style. It took about 16-18 hours--use about 5.5 Marley braid packs for the wrapping and 3 regular braid packs as the base (both were the same color). It cost about 30-35 dollars.

  • @NadegeP1 Thank you :)...you did 18 hrs on your own head!!! You're better than me

  • The coke guy is cute..

  • @sensiquest terry's a cutie! his channel is linked in the video description box :)

  • @sensiquest omg thats the FIRST thing i thought. geeze. lol

  • Can you start dreads with twist extensions?

  • @eastpassion69 sure! if you leave the twists in your hair will eventually loc. i'm just not sure that the twists will look like locs over time. not sure about that

  • @iCharmCity07 The journey isn't just about a personal decision to loc it should be a time of self-awareness and determining how and under what terms you choose to live and/or exist; an all inclusive lifestyle change. The length of the journey is determined by the life experience and should include patience and tolerance. Who cares how you arrive at your destination as long as you walk the path.

  • @nefateri thanks so much for this comment!

  • I kind of wanted to shave the side off my locs but I dont know about that. It looks good on other people but for me, i dont think so. haha

  • Im really really considering dreads! My hair is really coarse and prone to extreme breakage and I need a solution! I want to stay natural but it is so hard for me because I feel like my hair is so hard to manage! Anywho, so the thought of dreads have always been in the back of my mind but it is definitely a commitment worth taking the time to research...So if I were to get loc extensions they will be permanent right?? I hope that isn't a dumb question...Please help! :)

  • He did a great job for the first time. Can you tell I've watched this more than once. LOL I'm really considering these. Ooooo big 40 gift, I think I'm worth it :-) Is he using real hair? I hate the fake stuff. Also I wash once to twice a week, would I still be able to wash like this. Looks like he didn't do them tight which is a plus I hate hair pulling. Is he still doing this?

  • @Nuru305 forwarding your comment to Terry :)

  • @chescaleigh Thanks much!

  • @Nuru305 Thank you for the compliment...yes I'm still doing it, I used human kinky bulk hair. I'd say you can wash it one a week after the first month or so and with loc extensions I start them an inch away from your scalp to give more of a natural look.

  • @TerryTorroHD great! sending you a msg :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @Nuru305 ha! thanks for watching till the end!

  • Comment removed

  • Girlie, you give excellent interviews. Enjoyed this vid!

  • @kimmaytube thanks love!

  • i had loc extensions done about 4 yrs ago and i loved my extensions! I had them done instead of the regular process because my hair was permed and i did not want to cut off my hair but the extensions were out now for about 3 yrs and my locs are amazing. I would not have done this any other way

  • @iCharmCity07 i understand exactly what you mean, and even though it's ones own choice, i completely agree with your sentiments regarding locs.... extensions seem contradictory to what locs started as

  • can loc extensions be done on loose natural hair?

  • @PornoPlaylist yes. that's how these extensions were installed

  • @chescalocs oops! sorry. I should have watched the video first and then asked my question.

  • @iCharmCity07 why? if someone chooses to go natural for "vanity" reasons, that's their business. my point is, everyone's personal decision is their's and their's alone. no one else's opinion should matter.

  • @chescalocs you. are. awesomesauce! I'm choosing extensions because that's what I feel is going to work for my hair because the other methods are not. I want locs and I'm going to get locs and it shouldn't matter how they are started because the end result will be THE SAME. And it's going to ME happy because it's MY hair. I'm still naptural at the end of the day so who cares!! LOVE YOU CHESCA!! I've been waiting for a vid like this :]

  • @Keromidly aw thank you! congrats on taking the first step on your journey :)

  • @iCharmCity07 finally, loc'ing your hair isn't always a "struggle" for some people, they love the short phase and don't see it as a difficult process at all. so that just reconfirms the idea that everyone's journey is different and no two heads are alike. what someone else does with their hair doesn't have any bearing on you or your experience and vice versa. i think everyone should do what works best for them and be happy!

  • @iCharmCity07 just to give you some perspective, my friend opted for loc extensions after recovering from cancer. she lost all her hair during chemo and once her hair started grow back she decided to get loc extensions because she was sick of being almost bald. now she's had locs for almost 8 years and no longer has any extensions. her hair is gorgeous and she has a special connection to her hair journey unlike anyone else's.

  • @iCharmCity07 you're entitled to your opinion, but i don't think it's fair to judge someone that chooses to get extensions instead of going the more "traditional" route. defeats the purpose? everyone chooses to loc their hair for their own personal reasons and no two people or their experiences are alike. locs may mean one thing to you and something totally different to someone else which is totally fine.

  • @iCharmCity07 I just have a lot of personal and professional reasons but i do understand your point .

    dext

  • @iCharmCity07

I Do agree to an extent . The people who get them and 3 months later remove them, they just want it as a style , me i got them about 4 months ago and im not going back, dreads are more than just a hair style to me, an with loc extensions it has been a journey also

    dext

  • this was so informative! thanks chesca

  • This may be a stupid question, but can you leave them in forever or like braids take them out every few months?

  • @candacereneejones not a stupid question at all. loc extensions can be removed or left in permanently. If you leave them in you can just twist your own hair as it grows out to transition into a full head of "natural" locs

  • dang chesca- let the man get some words in.lol great video!!

  • This was a great informative video. You asked some great questions!

  • I've had my loc extensions for 7 months and I love them. Spent 10 hours in the chair, spent $500. But, they are undetectable, and I take care of them like regular locs. I treated them like you would baby locs in the beginning, and I did not lose any locs or have any unravel on me.

  • I have an appt next week to get mine. I can't wait! Love the idea. Happy bday to me!

  • Do loc extensions unravel during shampooing? How can they be maintained at home? I'm concerned about the recurring cost of having them.

  • @Pintopam321 The first wash I've seen a few unravel....u can just twist it back into the loc...very similar to when u have baby locs and it unravels at times. At home, I'd suggest to keep it moisturized and palm roll it if u feel its to fuzzy.

  • Are they permanent? could you cut them out once your natural hair grows to a length that you like and still keep ur natural locs?

  • i love that you covered this topic. i have to admit, i feel a bit funny about loc extensions, but a fascinating topics nonetheless. and of course, love your channel as always.

  • Great info

  • renceferd83...haven't seen your vids in a while

  • @meyerchick89 I know I'm working on a skits nows since I have no locs lol so expect a new video very soon

  • Wow, I just saw you on the UK BBC news website, congrats on getting featured!

  • @Msandrris thanks! it's very exciting!

  • i like her voice

  • netflix!!! amen amen that's what i took with me!!!! took me 23 hours!! lawd hv mercy that was sooooooo long! :)

  • Add My New Page

    @DextDread :)

For Hair-how-too's , an alot of

    Loc Extension updates :)

  • lol thank you chesca. Ik my last comment was me freaking out. lol I so can not pay that much but about two days ago I just said forget it and started my locs again myself lol I like them this time they are small and the right size. I saw a lady today with some GORGEOUS locs. She might retwist them for cheap. buuuuuut idk I kinda like doing my own hair. ENOUGH RANTING I have a question. How long did you wait to wash your hair in the begining that lady said she waited 4 months

  • Yay! I want some but not permanently maybe for like 2-4 months can't wait

  • I have loc extentions, 3 years old and people are always amazed when I tell them it's not all mines. My natural locs are pretty long now so it is mostly mines at this point but the extensions gives me length that I don't have naturally yet.

  • Where's the engagement ring sis????? by the way your hair looks AMAZING

  • @09AshMck thanks! we filmed this is August, so before I got engaged :)

  • Can a person who hasa locs already get colored loc extensions if they don't want to color their natural hair?

  • I wrote this comment from my iPhone and it was long and half of it was cut off. Basically as long as your happy with your hair and what works for you go for it!! Going through the struggles of doing it the old fashion way is rewarding.(yes I have locs) be blessed. Love the video and awesome extensions.

  • First off I love the idea of loc extensions, and people have the free will to do what ever they want to their hair.If you work at a professional job environment, want to skip the ugly stage, or just not used to having short hair go for it!! My only problem with loc extensions is that you won't get a chance to learn and grow with your hair. The ugly stage is a challenge but you learn something about yourself in the process. In a sense your missing out on giving your hair a chance to do what it d

  • My ppl are so creative in what we do! I want to try this!

  • i need some advice. i started my dreads about a month and a half ago. and my roots are coming undone. i dont want to half to redo the dreads that this is happening to, so what can i do? i dont think retwisting will work on white hair, which is a bummer.

  • Sometimes I feel guilty for getting loc extensions. But I do know that if I just did my locs "normally", it would be the same length. (I can honestly say that this is the longest that my hair has ever been.)

On top of that, my hair is a bit thin because of perms that I had in my hair when I was little, AND because of the diverse ancestry I have, my hair is not as thickly coiled as most black people. So the loc extensions make my hair appear thicker.

  • where's your ring?

  • @lalalaina4life I filmed this about a month ago. so way before I got engaged :)

  • ommggg THANK YOUUU for this video ive been wondering about this for soo long and just needed some solid info about loc extentions :))

  • Very good! This was super cool and informative :D hello Terry with that deep ass voice... hahah I tempted to get loc extensions just to shut m mom up, but I know it'll be more rewarding if I am just patient! good video chesca!

  • @Jaznellow haa! the ladies are IN LOVE with Terry! lol

  • @chescaleigh Hahaha he's hott stuff! :)

  • @Jaznellow LOL hello

  • My mom will kill me if I wore my hair like shawn lol beat my ass with my locs lmao

  • I was wondering what happened to renceferd83

  • @ejdubbs i'm trying to convince him to come back! lol

  • @ejdubbs

  • I took a hiatus after I cut my locs off, I will be making my comeback this week actually so keep and eye out lol.

  • haha i have been thinking about extensions for a while, cos i dont like how the dreads on the top of my head only reach my ears, but i guess thats way too expensive, and it takes way too much time, all my interest has dropped lol

  • @manga4774 well, you could always do them yourself, or find a student hairstylist to do them for you. it's up to you to decide if it's worth the investment. but they are kinda expensive. but from everyone i've spoken to here online everyone says they're worth the investment.

  • What a great in depth video gurlfriend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had ONE loc extension that I wore for about 1 year. I initially got it b/c one teeny tiny area along my hairline just would not grow into my other locs. My loctician introduced me to loc extensions and I recommend them for anyone with problem areas or for any of the other reasons you stated! THUMBS ALL THE WAY UP on this!

    (✿◠‿◠) Kokofemme

  • can he do a tutorial video for us?

  • @jazzepink I will be posting a second part of this video later this week which shows step by step how the extensions are installed.

  • Great video! I like the idea you suggested of usng it to add color, since I've never colored my hair. I thought about wrapping with yarn or embroidery thread, but, never got around to it. I guess I could buy some HAIR (LOL) and start wrapping! Thanks!

  • you have to also be careful of the type of hair you use because some hair is not flexible and will stay inflexible.

  • thank you for the video. My gawd thank you

  • Terry you did an amazing job I just need an estimate on how many packs of hair. Do I have to braid my hair with the afro bulk (human) hair can I use my own hair to braid and then wrap. Thanks to anyone who can answer this.

  • @crit1227 If you hair is long then yeah Im pretty sure u can use ur own hair as the base of the loc. Um, it all depends on how thick u want the locs to be and how long...if ur gonna use ur own hair as the base that knocks off about one pack lol. the length would really determine how many packs u need.

  • @TerryTorroHD You are such a doll. Thanks a bunch. Congratulations on getting this publicity hun through chescaloca. :-)

  • @crit1227 Thank you and not a problem!!

  • I really love this video and the information it provides. When I do choose to lock again, I'll be doing it the regular way but this gives others insight to the options they can have in regards to locking their hair. Thanks Fran!! :D oh yeah, his locks look AMAZING!! ^_^

  • My loc extensions turn 1 on October 5th!!!! Yay, my hair locked and feels all nice n spongy now, cant wait to cut the extensions off once i attain my goal length!

  • @GlobalSweethearts Question!! did the loc extensions change over time...like do they look much different from when you first got them?

  • @TerryTorroHD Not by much, mine got a tad bit thinner coz i'd made them thicker and a little fuzzier which i don't mind :-)

  • Damianjw84 can do a full head in 5 hours. check him out awesome work on natural hair. Don't know the price. Your man said His first time for extensions and maybe why the long time.

  • With syntheitc hair its heavier but it does still look natural I will show it in stages I'm soooooo excited my bestfriend HIGHMAY10NENCE ON HERE has been demanding me to make videos over the last 2 years

  • @femmeredlockz do it up! start making videos!

  • hmm i already have locs but im fed up with the length.. if i got extensions would they become permanent?

  • @kiiimeluv yep! they sure would become permanent if you choose to keep them in. You can get them any length you want. I've had loc extensions for 9 months now, & I love them!!!

  • I am a loctician here in saint louis and I do lock extentions very often but some client have to understand that loc extentions are man made and it still takes several months and rewraps to maintain the style I am doing a head 2morrow and I will ask her if she will let me film her and I will show how to use synthetic hair also I will upload it if she agrees

  • @femmeredlockz thanks for adding this info! if your client is ok with you filming, please post the video as a response to this one so we can make sure people see it. thank you!!

  • @femmeredlockz question, have you found the same issue when using human hair or is that not an option when using kinky hair? i honestly don't know anything about working with human vs synthetic hair so any light you could shed would be very helpful for myself and the subscribers. thank you again!

  • @femmeredlockz i have a question as well. How many packs would I need? Does it depend on the size. I would like locs the size of a pinky. Thanks

  • Im sorry for my short attention span but i did not watch the whole video so maybe this question was answered...but is it possible to take out the extensions if you decide locs are not for you?

  • @MsMayaBrowne ha! totally understandable. i appreciate your honesty. it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year for your hair to loc, so as long as you don't leave the extensions in to the point that your hair is fully loc'd then you should be able to remove them. if your hair does begin to loc you should still be able to comb them out, but it will most likely take a lot longer.

  • thanksssssss for this video!! I recently chopped my hair off because I gave myself a bad haircut and I've been thinking about locs lately and this has really made me want to get them again! one question though, can you dye them?

  • @Keromidly Um...the verdict is still out on that....I've been told yes! but I've tried it and seen no change...I'm gonna experiment and try to bleach and see if anything happens.

  • Thank you for this video. A bit of a positive spin on extensions is refreshing. I am so glad to see such a well known youtube personality giving this option a bit of vid time. I had extensions done over two salon visits and I am very, very pleased. I have incredible respect for those who consider the locing process a spiritual journey and I applaud their patience and growth. The extensions are a permanent choice for me, and how "I" chose to start my locing process.

  • @sixnsolid well, i think everyone has to do what's right for them. for some it's natural hair, for others it's a relaxer or a weave. at the end of the day if you're happy and healthy then i don't see where it's might right to judge. i'm glad you enjoyed the video and have had such great results with your loc extensions. feel free to share pix of your hair on my FB fanpage, i'm sure other people would like to see how your hair turned out. it might be encouraging for other people

  • I have loc extensions and for me it was 1. because of work and 2. because I really feel like I already did my "journey" when I went natural, did a big chop grew my hair out etc. My loc extensions are the same length as my actual hair it just looks loc'd instantly. It took 10 hours!!! it was a very long day! Its pretty expensive too. I'm really happy with my hair and glad I did it. :-)

  • @chescalocs I did mine my self about 4 months ago

an now im thinking about starting a youtube page on maintaining them, styling them, ect. What do you think?

  • @MrTwilightnerdd I think you should! a lot of people don't realize that even with loc extensions it's still a journey, so I say go for it!

  • @MrTwilightnerdd I agree with Terry!

  • @chescalocs Okie doke then :) When I do Looks inspired by you ill post them as video responces

  • @MrTwilightnerdd great! can't wait to see them!

  • @MrTwilightnerdd Please make a video. thanks hun

  • @MrTwilightnerdd PLEASE DO THIS!! I have loc extensions, and it is so hard to find tips and advice specifically on extensions online. I'd love to maintain them myself, without having to run to my loctician every few weeks. I would subscribe immediately! :-)

  • @thyreast I started a channel its @dextdread i posted my first video as a response

looking forward to your subscription :)

    Nappy&Happy, Dext

  • What is the best hair to use for the extensions?

  • @PrimeTimeMiss The hair that I used was "Human Afro Kinky Hair"

  • @TerryTorroHD Thank you very much! You're amazing at what you do :)

  • Wow.. the guy in the coca cola top is hot!

  • @crazysexycooli0 Why thank you

  • @TerryTorroHD Great job Terry!!! His hair looks great. I'm really glad this video puts loc extensions in a positive light!

  • @cutiepiedev Thank You much!

  • @cutiepiedev I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

  • @crazysexycooli0 ha! agreed! Terry's a handsome guy!

  • Cool idea, and by all means I'm not knocking anyone who takes advantage of this option, but I believe the idea of locs are to go through all of the phases. For me, it was a great learning experience and fun seeing myself through all of the stages. Although in the end, locs are locs and I'm down for any style of natural hair.

  • @jAzo33 well, you have to remember everyone's journey is different and what works for you doesn't work for everyone. some want the full experience and embrace the transition that takes place with their hair. for others, it's simply a hairstyle and they don't want to go through the year long process it takes to be fully loc'd. this is also an option for some people who don't feel confident with short hair or are in a work environment where they need to be able to pull their hair back.

  • @chescalocs I understand, and completely agree. I just want those interested in loc'ing to weigh both options and to know that the short "awkward" stage can be a hairstyle as well, and not an inconvenience or burden. Your "Four Year Anniversary" video is a perfect example of that and was one of the reasons I decided to loc. As previously stated, I am in total support of anyone on this journey of natural hair, no matter which road to take in getting there.

  • @jAzo33 absolutely. you're right, the short phase is a hairstyle too! but, it's not for everyone. i liked having short hair, but i wore a pixie cut in high school and a tiny fro before i started my locs, so it wasn't that big of a deal to me. but i did struggle with that length at times because i didn't feel like there was a lot i could do with it. i'm actually going to start working with models to try different styles on a variety of lengths to show just that

  • My question refers to loc breakage or thinning. I have locs that were started from two strands twists (3yrs ago) and now a few are starting to thin out and shed mid-loc. Would the repair start from the root or just where the breakage begins? Thanks in advance Terry and Chesca.

  • My questions refer to loc breakage or thinning. I have locs that were started from two strands twists (3yrs ago) and now a few are starting to thin out and shed mid-loc. Would a loc extension be good for repair? Also would the repair start from the root or just where the thinning begins? Thanks in advanced Terry and Chesca. -Mrs. Hahn

  • @mrshahn I would do the whole loc but put the most attention on to the spot that's weakened..

  • That was really cool. Of course, now I'm researching Kinky twists that can be put over my 1 year old locs!

  • @whoiamisme nice! i'm also doing a follow up video that shows step by step how the extensions are put in :)

  • @chescaleigh That's wicked cool, especially since I want to try and do them myself !

  • @whoiamisme terry does a great job of explaining it so it's very easy to follow along. it should be up next week!
