Like everyone here is saying though he was completely brain washed and didn't know any better at that point it was over 4 years of torture and he didn't know any better. its something none of us can understand and only he can. i'm so happy for him though and proud that he made it out alive

You can never be sure he won't find you again and the punishment will be worse than anything you've ever had. In a sense, you can get used to the routine treatment and don't want to risk having it worse. I never had sexual abuse but was beaten by my dad for 4 years. I wanted to get out but if I tried, there was a risk of not succeeding. I even sent social workers away.

Here's the deal. We stop putting people in jail for a joint of pot or a small bag of coke and leave this animal Devlin in their place FOREVER!!! Understand? Priorities is the name of the game. Jails are for people like Devlin, not someone who chooses to do drugs to themselves. Free up the jail cells for the Devlins of the world so that we can keep him there until he is so old, when he gets out, if he lives to get out, he can barely walk, let along kidnap a child or even have sex.

But does anyone else find it strange that Shawn had numerous chances to tell on this guy, call his parents, 911, or run away yet didn't? Or is it possible that a predator can have so much psychological control over a youngster that they wouldn't dream of doing that? Either way, I feel horrible for these boys and that monster needs to die slow in prison.

@allayna82 Shawn couldn't call 911 or tell anyone, because the devil aka Michael Devlin made him believe that if he tried to escape, he would kill his family and Shawn believed him. In a sick way, it was a blessing that Ben was taken because if he hadn't been taken, Shawn would never have been reunited with his family. God works in mysterious ways.

These kids aren't to blame for not getting help. These predators are experts at manipulation and control. Children are very impressionable and so this is to the advantage of the perp. Why do u think they prefer young kids. The younger the better for them. This man needs to be put to death for taking these boy's innocence and liberties away. He got there as a 10 year old boy. If the captor tells him 'if you try to escape or call the cops, I'm going to kill you' he's going to believe him. And, I would too! Shawn basically lived his life in that apartment. He didn't go to school...he probably didn't grow up while he was there. He probably still had the mind of a 10 year old.
