@Aphrobyte I use Matrox Triplehead 2 Go. However you now have alternate choices with Eyefinity (ATI) and soon to be released nVidia cards. So, really, you can just do it with the correct GPU + 3 monitors. Eyefinity wasn't around when I wanted to go triple monitor. Matrox was the only solution and it has been rock solid for years.
@TortillaGaming You are correct - you can get a 590 series card with SLI built in ($750 smacks) or two 5xx series cards and run them in SLI to get nVidias "surround vision". Certainly an option, agreed, but not so viable (for me any way based on out of the box expense) as compared to the ATI Eyefinity or Matrox options. Honestly, I haven't paid much attention to the GPU market lately as my combo currently works great. Give it a few months and I will be back on the market.
@jakers11 Sandy Bridge is certainly a stronger CPU in my opinion but I don't know that it would be worth burning through the money to upgrade you mobo, CPU and ram to make the small leap from i7 to Sandy Bridge. I suggest keep working the overclock and visit the OC forums for problems that you may be encountering.
thank you for the video but how did you get 3699.8 mhz of core speed and the i7 2600k have only 3.4 ghz because i will get a new pc next week with i7 2600 k thank you sir for respond and
@mahmoud729 That would be 4.6! You can adjust the core multiplier and the vCore up through the BIOS or AI II Suite to a core multiplier and voltage that will run stable. with the correct CPU cooler. Bumping the MHz speed up really helps the simming smoothness and FPS. Have fun with your new machine!
@iryan74656 I don't max out AI stuff (I only fly on Vatsim) and light bloom is off. I lock at 30 and stay there. If I run into rain at 16x AA I can knock it down a few FPS easily.
This chip does great with the resolution I run at (5040x1050) and would absolutely kill if it were a standard 1980x resolution. In the end, worth every penny over i7 - is it the end all, sort of. There are some things that can't be overcome by the nature of FSX code.
Well bman, I finally got my system together except for the 2 additional 25" monitors for eyefinity. Not the easiest build I've done due to trying to use my existing harddrive instead of a fresh install. Components are pretty much the same as yours. I haven't even run FSX yet. Want to get this thing overclocked first, could you give me some guidance on the overclock settings that worked for you? I've seen it done several ways, just would like some more input. Thanks. Dave.
@ypaul123 Hey Paul - thanks. Blurries are very minimal. When I do get blurries it's when I have everything cranked up (especially water texture) and fly at 200 knts.... then, yes, there is a degree of blurry. This is all very minimal in comparison to my Q6600. Same thing for the stutters. I can produce stutters if I really crank the autogen. You can even see that in the video.
@TheShadowPX Sure it would work nice - both the 2600k and the 6870 are nice and you are going to do about as much as you can do with hardware as it relates to FSX performance. From there it much more about getting your .cfg optimized and setting matched with how you want things to look. Just make sure you get an ATI with eyefinity if you want to run x3 lcd's and you will be good to do. FWIW - I love my SSD on the FSX machine. No performance boost but everything loads mega-fast.
Wow, great video, cool cutting and great song! What's your avarage FPS on ground or during landing with e.g. an PMDG or else and an add-on big airport?
@topshotnathan Sandpoint, Idaho - I would have never guessed it to be so scenic but it is quite. A nice place and so happens to be where Quest Aircraft are based out of.
Hi.. Great news took off the H70 and found the thermal paste was half smeared over the cpu so cleaned it off and re applied new TM. Re seated and made sure it was screwed down correctly. Now OCCT stress test sits at 64C wowww much better than 90C so there was the problem on idle it sits at 27C so am happy bunny now!!. Thanks for your tips!!
I have exactly the same Sandy Bridge Chip with an Asus Evo Motherboard and a corsair H70. I am overclocked like you to 4.7Mhz using 1.39V for stable. My temps while playing FSX are around 75-82 degrees C. Is this normal with the H70 or should I re seat it with new thermal paste. I would love to know what your temps are? Great video!! Forgot to mention I have 2 Akasa fans in a push pull config blowing air outside the case...
@doyneditmas Whoooa! I would most certainly re do the H70 paste and reseat! My FSX runs around 49-52c when flying. Even under Prime95 full load I am running a maximum of 63c
I am at 4.7ghz at 1.39v also... so something isn't right with your temps. Are you using RealTemp to monitor?
Yes I am using Real Temp to monitor... I posted the same question in the Corsair cooling forum but did not get a reply. It was my first build and I am using the Corsair Obsidian 700D case I have 3 120mm fans blowing air in from the top of the case so I was thinking the temps were slightly high. If I run OCCT within 30 seconds it hits 90Oc so I stopped it. Its fairly difficult to tell if the H70 is seated properly it does not move but I should start again. Thaks for your help
@doyneditmas Oh man 90c is going to absolutely kill you chip in time. You should be at 22c-25c idle and 63-65c MAXIMUM under Prime95 or OCCT. The H70 just turn that one click over to the right on the retention bracket and then BE SURE to tighten them screws as you would on a tire lug nut. 2 turns on screw 1.... 2 turns on screw 3..... 2 turns on screw 2 and 2 turns on screw 4.
Clean off your old paste with rubbing alcohol and use Arctic Silver 5 for reapplication.
Thank you I shall try a re seating tomorrow. I am always scared of tightening too much and I should make sure the small nuts behind are themselves seated correctly.. also the bracket that fits behind was at a funny angle to get the 1156 holes to line up. Will let you know how I get on. I see you have the saitek panels I have those ones as well + Triple Head + Track ir nirvana!!
@doyneditmas Indeed the bracket sits rotated a bit with the 1156 pegs - however, I notice that the screws and pegs are parallel with the CPU. So the plate is wonky but all is parallel if you look at the peg locations relative to the corner of the CPU socket. Yes, simming has his a good level! I just need more time to enjoy it all....
Yes I am using Real Temp. Maybe I should check the unit is seated well.... its difficult to tell if it's locked in perfectly. Should I use special Thermal paste? It took a couple of goes for it lock down and maybe I smeared the paste away? Really glad I now know what my temps should be. On Prime 95 it hit 90C before I stopped it!! Have you tried to go to 4.8Ghz or does it require too many volts?
I heard you had a Q6600 prior to this build. I'm in the same situation. I too am running a Q6600 OC to 3.24Ghz. I do a lot of flight simming and I was considering going to the i7 2600K but wasn't too sure if there would be a significant difference. What is your recommendation?
@viperxbr It depends on how much cash you want to throw at it. From the Q6600 to I7 2600K it's a lot smoother, higher FPS, less blurries. Everything is better. I still get some micro-stutters but that is more due to the resolution 5040x1024 than anything else. I can reduce my overall windows size and things are insanely smooth.
Worth the investment - sure, without a doubt for me but just note it's not the end all. There are somethings we will every overcome with the FSX hard coding.
@ DoogieWDTV Yeah, I fly a bit in the 3D but not very often since I have to reference charts, sectionals, approach plates nonstop. It makes it far more difficult with the glasses on.
Regarding 128GB - more than enough for me. I have both Win7 64 Bit and FSX + Acceleration + REX2 + ORBX PNW, PFJ, NRM + about 20 addon planes. I have a spare 40 GB for operations in general. Don't get me wrong, wish it was a 1TB SSD but that isn't going to happen for now...
Thanks for posting your video. Did you have any issues installing the Corsair h70 cooler on the 1155 motherboard? I've read that some people felt the backplate didn't line up as well as they would have liked. Dave.
@DavesFSX None whatsoever. I would almost go so far to say this was the easiest build and install of a cpu cooler I have ever done. The backplate lines up great - the only thing I can imagine is that folks were not reading the instructions which spell out the holes you need to use to align the backplate. There are small number stamps for 1156, 1366 and 755 on the plate (..and they are small). Make sure you put the anchor pegs in the correct 1156 holes and it goes right on. No issues there.
@joelPB94 yeah, thus was just a carry over GPU. It would be nice to have the 570 or 580 but opted for the SSD. That impact is far more noticeable in general use. Once I get this rig paid off - I might just have to upgrade.
@franthree What part on the timeline are you seeing stutters. In general I no longer have stutters. If I have a blip in this video it's either Fraps or the 5040x1024 resolution. Orbx in itself has minimal impact on over FPS. Nothing compared to resoltution size impact.
The major difference between my system and yours is that I made the choice to purchase the new GTX 570 that made my other games pop from a visual stand point.
Looks very nice Ben! But I still see some "stutters" --must be the stunning but fps killing ORBX scenery! If only the hoped for MS "Flight" will be fps "optimized for Quad-core or higher processors!
haha sometimes i notice when watching other peoples flight vids..... i keep moving my head around, as i would do when im in the game trying to look out the side :D

@flybman2007 :) You can do Surround with GTX2XX series cards but yeah, you need 2 of them so the triplehead would be probably cheaper.
Anyways, FSX is such a CPU killer, i can't wait to see how the 8-core AMD CPU's are going to be like on this game.

@werasdyxc2 Lot's of stuff actually. I run 4 main apps across the network via SimConnect:
1) FSInn (Vatsim)
2) FSMap
3) PlanG
4) REX2 Wx Interface
5) And on the occasion - FSEconomy Interface
During flight I will do other things like pull up airport charts or verify local Wx conditions are the arrival field.
This takes a nice load off of the FSX machine.
