I am in Australia and I don't have any problems with the police. The revenue raising for speeding fines etc is annoying, but the police in Australia are generally sensible and valuable. So were these cops. I think they were trying to bring on some silliness from drunks, but knew it was harmless

Vast majority of people would agree with you that police are needed and worthy of our respect, but don't try to excuse a cop who thinks that he is above the law or better than you. There are checks and balances in all aspects of life and filming police, like they film us, is one of them. Like us, if they aren't doing anyhting wrong they shouldn't care or feel threatened.

Yea you can film anyone or anything you want, but if they ask you to stop filming, you have to stop. As far as the police car cams, they film, but if you ever seen on the show cops, some peoples faces are fuzzed out, because they didnt want to be filmed.

Appeals court ruled that people can film cops and RECORD sound and wiretap laws that prohibit it are illegal. This isn't all inclusive. You can't film cops doing super secret undercover work, but largely, everything is legal.

The simplest answer is that we are now technically under martial law in the American police state. While Bush signed away most of our civil rights with the Patriot Act, Obama has taken it a step further and given himself and all police and military the right to detain citizens as well as assassinate them. Obama explained this new law by saying he promised not to use those martial law powers during his term. And some people actually believe him is the saddest part.
