@arikw in short there is this huge wall that needs to be held against the monsters you saw at first, to keep it you have to swear and oath that you will serve the group called Nights Watch until death. anyone who runs away or deserts is sentenced to death immediately. the Nights Watch is like a prison sentence, anyone who joins this group loses all his belonging and becomes a humble soldier as such most men serving the Nights Watch are criminals or traitors.

It's actually based off of a book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, which I am now currently reading. I definitely suggest watching it, especially if you're a fan of medieval times.

@faithcabigting because he deserted the Night's Watch, it used to be an honor to work at the Night's Watch and there were like 20 (haven't read the books in a while so cant remember the exact number) outposts along the wall with thousands of people manning it but now theres only 3 and it's basically a place for outcast's and criminal's, when a criminal commits a crime they get the option to go to the Night's Watch but they are not allowed to leave, that's why the boy was beheaded.

the series is not bad regarding the landscape, props costumes etc. but i wouldve liked a little more "exact" story, as it isnt will being beheaded but gared, and waymar royce is killed by a member of The Others in a swordfight, now dont get me wrong, i anticipated this very much and im not angered at all about little details to be changed for dramaturgic reasons, but (and i do hope yoe all get me) i hate such drastic changes from the book, no offense intended

Because the SyFY channel does not have the close to the budget, and the ability to allow this much sex, and violence that the song of ice and fire needs(Game of Thrones was the first book). And the Writer of the series also was smart and said the only channel that would be able to do these things was HBO. And i also beleive this Series would have never worked as Movies. Because the books are just to long, and have som much detail.

The first chapter is Bran's POV where they don't really mention any details about what the Night's Watch is, what they do and all the other things I mentioned.
