from what i understad players can no longer initiate fights. Meaning you can not fight after a clean hit and such, you cant plan a fight during a faceoff etc... Im sure players will find a way to make the fight look "unplanned" but it still really takes it out of the game

Kidney punches are not cowardly. If Shelley wants to keep his face turned away, that's where a guy with a boxing background is going to punch you, right in the kidneys. Body punches aren't all that common in hockey fights, but they're sure as hell legal and affective. I can guarantee you, nobody in the NHL was saying that Boogaard was a coward for throwing body punches in this fight.
