  • A great band the Icicle Works, The Church had a similar fate, yes they should have been up there with the likes of REM, who struggled but eventually pulled it off

    Hollow Horse my fave

  • This version of the Icicle Works (Layhe, McNabb, Sharrock) is very hard to beat.

  • love this but my fave IW song has gotta be Understanding Jane...an absolute rocking 80s classic!! (thats the orig version...NOT the '92 version!!)

  • echo and the bunnymen

  • Its sounds pretty good live !

  • for my bro RIPxx

  • Heard this on Radio two tonight on The Chain for first time. Sounded amazing!

  • Thanks for posting such a great clip. This was the first song I ever heard of theirs. It was on Annie Nightingale's Radio 1 Sunday Evening Show. Went out and bought the album next day.

  • great live song. great live performance. glad it was caught on video for posterity.

  • great 1:22

  • best rock voice ever

  • Saw TIW at Sheffield Leadmill around the time this came out. Agreed they were massively underrated although comparisons with The Beatles may be a tad over the top - LMAO.

  • 1:24 looks a bit like Bolan

  • Fantastic Song, it should of been a hit!

  • it was a hit in the uk

  • This song transported me to a nice place. Great times. The talent of this band still remains untapped.

  • These guys shaped my music listening for years.

Saw them live 8 times once in Bradford Uni, best gig I have ever seen.

  • god...music used to be so....exciting

  • u have some superb videos, thanks very much, this takes me back to the good old days wen music was music

  • my daughter was named "Evangeline" after this song, it's one of the greatest records ever, and the icicle works we're lost legends, shame on us mere mortals for not making them as big as the beatles. and look at the competition they had at the time! stock aitken and waterman and bloody kajagoogoo! they should have been HUGE!!!! but why the hell did the guitar solo in this get mixed down to nothing on the finished single???

  • Called my daughter Evangeline too in honour of this record. It just makes me happy! Had to wait a bloody long time though - she was born in 2005!!!!

  • @MissEvieD That's what i call devotion!! = D I wanted to name our son Ian but my husband said, no. : (

  • GREAT SONG --A MUCH UNDERATED BAND

  • Oh man, I LOVE THIS SONG....Been trying and trying to find it on iTunes and can't!! Their first album is amazing. Love it, love it, love it.

  • Didn't realize how good looking Ian is. Sure do LOOOVE his voice!

  • whatever happened to them? I still play their second album now and again and the amount of people who then get into them is unbelievable.

  • "whatever happened to them?"

Ian McNabb has recorded many albums since the IW demise in 1990. IW 25th Anniversary Tour last year was very successful - also about 10 gigs this Nov/Dec in UK (McNabb only original line up member).

  • camden 1984

  • Excellent they're legends.

  • Any video of Understanding Jane? Thanks anyway!
