A great band the Icicle Works, The Church had a similar fate, yes they should have been up there with the likes of REM, who struggled but eventually pulled it off
Thanks for posting such a great clip. This was the first song I ever heard of theirs. It was on Annie Nightingale's Radio 1 Sunday Evening Show. Went out and bought the album next day.
Saw TIW at Sheffield Leadmill around the time this came out. Agreed they were massively underrated although comparisons with The Beatles may be a tad over the top - LMAO.
my daughter was named "Evangeline" after this song, it's one of the greatest records ever, and the icicle works we're lost legends, shame on us mere mortals for not making them as big as the beatles. and look at the competition they had at the time! stock aitken and waterman and bloody kajagoogoo! they should have been HUGE!!!! but why the hell did the guitar solo in this get mixed down to nothing on the finished single???
Ian McNabb has recorded many albums since the IW demise in 1990. IW 25th Anniversary Tour last year was very successful - also about 10 gigs this Nov/Dec in UK (McNabb only original line up member).

This version of the Icicle Works (Layhe, McNabb, Sharrock) is very hard to beat.

Called my daughter Evangeline too in honour of this record. It just makes me happy! Had to wait a bloody long time though - she was born in 2005!!!!

whatever happened to them? I still play their second album now and again and the amount of people who then get into them is unbelievable.
