This was accepted practice when I was in Japan in the '70s and '80s. There is nothing offensive about it ~ the pushers treat you with respect and you undrstnd this is necessary to get everyone aboard. There are many Japanese practices which would appear unusual to westerners, but the Japanese don't lose respect for each other and remain orderly. Japanese women clothes shopping looks like sharks in a feeding frenzy! Pushing and throwing clothes. Accepted procedure, tho. Always respectful.

My Japanese teacher just explained this in class the other day and tried it out on us. She tries to push about 10 students into a two foot square in the corner. The Japanese have my respect for being able to deal with that for a whole train ride. =)

This was accepted practice when I was in Japan in the '70s and '80s. There is nothing offensive about it ~ the pushers treat you with respect and you undrstnd this is necessary to get everyone aboard. There are many Japanese practices which would appear unusual to westerners, but the Japanese don't lose respect for each other and remain orderly. Japanese women clothes shopping looks like sharks in a feeding frenzy! Pushing and throwing clothes. Accepted procedure, tho. Always respectful.

My Japanese teacher just explained this in class the other day and tried it out on us. She tries to push about 10 students into a two foot square in the corner. The Japanese have my respect for being able to deal with that for a whole train ride. =)

@kilala425 I'm not American hun, I'm from Puerto Rico and I see Americans making fun and degrading my people all the time. I know there are some things they might find weird or different so I don't take it personal and just brush it off. I'm sure Japanese make fun of other cultures or Koreans or Chinese or British or Australian. People always find something to criticize about the other culture. Ie: I know a Thai guy that makes fun of the crazy Japanese fashion. He's not American!
