  • love my macross. I LENARD Japaneses to watch the original and following stuff. i know I'm sick!!

  • hey man nice video can u please tell me were did you buy the protoculture collection because i cant find it anywhere..there sold out in robotechs website and in ebay there to expensive.

  • @Kevin112793 It was originally purchased at a local comic shop that also carries anime about 6 years ago.

  • absolutely the macross saga is the real deal.

  • Harmony Gold doesn't care about fan support, they worship money, and darn it if they don't get it eventually. It's too bad, because without us, they have essentially nothing.

  • Any advice on the visually touched up remastered AnimEigo Macross sets? I notice you did not include this one..

I got 1 box of these and didn see the touched up promises it came with...only the original jap audio...

  • @103littlebastard I talk about the various releases of the original Japanese shows in another video. This is only Part 1 of a 4-part series. The Animeigo sets weren't "touched up," they were new transfers from the originals film prints. It's doubtful they'll ever look better than that, unless we get a Blu-ray release at some point of course. Here's the one about the originals: watch?v=GejRp54vVQI

  • Frankly, im not sure why anyone would want the masters, and new generation..they both sucked i comparison's to the macross saga...

It makes sense now that they are all 3 comleatly unrealated series...the artwork waso conpleatly inconssitant and the mecha, tecnologies etc...Like mixing thesmurfs with Ninja turtles and re editiing them together.....shamefull

    !Macross Forever!!

  • if they ever release a blu ray version of the protoculture collection would you buy it.

  • Do you know if there is a Japanese version of the protoculture collection?

  • @aky51 No, since Robotech is a purely U.S. storyline/edit of the material. The only Japanese version is the 3 original, unaltered anime shows that it was adapted from.

  • @Zaranyzerak Thanks for your reply. Is there a DVD collection the 3 original Japanese versions?

  • @aky51 Yes, if you watch the last part of this Robotech review series (it's 4 parts) I go into quite a lot of detail about them: watch?v=GejRp54vVQI

  • Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but would the Protoculture Edition be worth getting? Because I have the ADV films dub of Macross and could see most of Robotech on the Internet.

  • I would say yes. It's the best the series has ever looked, and the extras are top-notch. Plus the Robotech version of the story is quite different from the original Macross story, though the basic elements remain the same.

  • Thanks for the review!! I was debating whether or not to get the protoculture edition, cuz I already have the legacy somewhere in storage. Hands down, Protoculture edition is the best!!! Man 1985, I used to run home after school just so I don't miss a minute of Robotech !!! BTW I'm debating on either getting the wide screen edition of Robotech Chronicles or Blu Ray?? Your Thoughts??

  • Thank for all your information, last week i did buy Robothech the protoculture collection, y buyed in amazon, and i did buy too Robotech Shadow cronicles in Blu-Ray, and you say : the protoculture collection is the best edition, now i finish to see this multimedia chronicles, i'm very happy, beacuse this edition has the sentinels, thank ffrom chile the end of the world, your video blog is increible....

  • I recently found my dust covered VHS Copy of Robotech Sentinels and thinkng back when I bough it back in 1997, I paid $5.00 for it from a CD/Video Outlet Store.

And thanks for the Tips on which Robotech Box Set to get.

  • I just bought the legacy collection, so I didn't have to worry about having to hunt it down individually. :)

With the protoculture collection, if they had to completely remaster the sound, did they keep the original opening theme music? What about the rest of the music?

  • Fortunately, all of the music was originally recorded in stereo, even though the show was was originally mono. So the music is all the original music, just with more spatial presence than it had in the original version.

The sound effects, however, are another story. There are very few of the original sound effects in the 5.1 remix, and fan reaction was somewhat mixed about that. While I DO prefer the original sound effects for nostalgia, the new, modern effects actually work quite well.

  • I think the remastered version was what I hired out from the video store before I bought the Legacy DVDs. I have to say I didn't notice any difference. Although, I had not seen the show since I was a kid so I guess I didn't remember that well.

I was really stocked when I found out Robotech was on DVD.

  • This is really good. I ended up buying the current Protoculture box, remastered and all with all the extras, and I'm happy with it. Props to you buddy!

  • Protoculture it is for me, then!

  • Hi Sean,

I'll start off by thanking you for this awesome review. Very informative and well put together. Congratulations! I just would like to double check with you if the ROBOTECH Protoculture Collection - Remastered DVD MegaSet contains the Mexican Spanish version of the Macross Saga with Jesus Barrero as Rick Hunter.............

  • Sorry, I don't speak Russian... Babel Fish translates that as:

Who this [nakh] of such, that after snout [uetaya]?

Which sounds like you're calling me a pig, but who can really tell with Babel Fish...

  • It wasn't related to Robotech (ditto all the other Macross spin-offs), I only covered the one that were directly related, meaning the one that was translated/re-edited/re-written to make the first generation of Robotech.

  • thank you sir!

  • Have u any Ghost In The Shell dvds or the 2 season box sets? Because I would like you to do a review on the 2 seasons more than the films as I own the films.

If you haven't got them then fair enough but if u have please can u do 1.

    Thank you

  • I've got the second movie and the Special Edition releases of the first 6 volumes of the first series. Trying to track down the Special Edition versions of all of them, since they've got some extras goodies that you don't get with the season sets (like T-shirts, soundtrack CDs, etc.) Still need to pick up the first movie, though I've seen it many, many times. Haven't seen the second series or Solid State Society yet. I might do some kind of review when I finish the collection.

  • Thank u

  • This video is absolutely awesome. Thank You for explaining it all. Do you have the British Box-Set too? I own one called "Robotech - The Complete Series" (a 14 disc set). Is it ok for a beginner?

  • i didnt understand the ending of the planet of the apes(2001 remake)how could humanity be turned into apes? and hav u seen the prestige?

  • Even though I own the 2001 version of Planet of the Apes, I actually have yet to watch it. The ending of the original 1968 version is quite a bit different, though (and makes a lot more sense, from what I know of both versions)

I have seen the Prestige (Annetta owns it). Awesome movie.

  • i liked that movie too.i saw it on my holiday and i like magic and hav u seen the league of extraordianry gentelman(there should be a sequel frm how the film ended)and what would happen if dorian burned his painting?(maybe he would die)

  • things are working fine now(no rebooting necesarry).did robotech make video games? and whos the better billionare?. tony stark or bruce wayne?

  • There's been a few Robotech video games over the years. Most recently there was "Robotech: Battlecry" and "Robotech: Invasion" for the PS2 and XBox.

  • I actually own Invasion. One of my friends gave it too me as a gift a few years back. I never really got into it though. I might have to pull it out again and dust it off now. :P

  • Invasion was based on the third generation of Robotech. I haven't actually played that one, but MAYBE after you see that part of the series it might have more appeal?

I enjoyed Robotech: Battlecry a lot, though. It's based on the first generation (The Macross Saga). There was just something so satisfying, as a fan, to be flying alongside Rick Hunter to save Minmei. :) Many of the original voice actors from the cartoon are in it too!

  • I love games that do that. Both Full metal alchemist 1&2 used the same voice actors from the show and even had the artists draw the cut-scenes.

  • Up too episode 14 now, bloody awesome. I'm not even going to bother renting more, I'm buying the remastered edition. I LOVE THIS SHOW!

  • Hehehe...awesome! Glad you're enjoying it, it's always been a favorite of mine. :) I highly recommend the Protoculture Collection if you're looking for the best set. All 85 of the Remastered episodes AND all the Extras discs (worth it for the Sentinels movie alone! Such a shame they never finished that series...)

  • Yeah extras are cool but I want to see all those extra bits and have surround sound. I remember buying the remastered neon genesis evangelion collection and really enjoying the quality compared to the original series. I know I'm going to want to see those extras afterwards though. Oh well you can't have your cake and eat it too, or can you?

  • That's my point though - the Protoculture Collection DOES have all the extra bits and surround sound. It's the Remastered Edition as a boxed set, instead of as 7 separate volumes. Plus it's be MUCH cheaper to just get the set instead of the individual volumes, with the added bonus that you get the extras discs. Believe me, it's the best value out there if you want the whole shebang in one fell swoop.

  • Oh, well then I guess I'll go for the Protoculture Collection lol.

  • Hehehe...you won't be disappointed! Like I said in the video, it's literally the single most Deluxe edition ever put out of the show. It's got the whole works! :)

  • And purchased, you would make one great sales person lol.

  • Wow, you don't waste any time! :) Too bad I don't get commission! Hehehe...

  • i watched it...all

  • I love you.

  • :))

ever since i saw indy 4 he aint the same guy that has 5 o'clock shadow at 7am.hes an old man now and one time i seen a teaser 4 the indy 4 film and they said city of gods and not crystall skull

  • Yeah, sometimes movie title change slightly over the course of production. Like "Return of the Jedi" was originally "Revenge of the Jedi." There were even a few pre-release posters that went out with the Revenge title - which are HUGE collector's items now.

Can't say I agree about Indy, though. He's still Indy, just older. I was just happy to see a new installment in one of the greatest action adventure series' in movie history! :)

  • good for u!

    :)

  • cool
