Oh, I have been so stupid... and lucky. I thought I had a virus on my PC, and I searched around the internet. Some people were talking about csrss.exe that it might be a virus, and that you have to remove it. I didn't know it could be such an important process. I tried to end it, but it wouldn't allow me to (I guess that's because I'm not the administator...?). If I were, I would have killed my PC. :l
Yes, this happens in Windows XP and Windows 7 as well. The system simply cannot function without csrss.exe. csrss stands for Client/Server Runtime Subsystem. It is the core of Windows because it functions partially in user mode AND in kernel mode at the same time.
there is a virus with winlogon.exe too if the process is called winlogon.exe you are SAFEEEEEEEEEEE but if u got winlogon.exe and winlogin.exe then winlogin.exe is most likely a trojan nvr delete winlogon only winlogin if see 2 of them
@billyruizguerra haha, i dont think you wanna end it, i ended it when i got an msn virus cuz it had like no description, thinking it was the virus, and it crashed my computer
it hasnt crashed mine but a blue screen appears and the problem is 1 is the virus and the other is the real but i cant delete it nor end it ........how can i remove it? it crashed my itunes and msn i cant update neither :$.............or how can i block it or something ...........( the virus ) the other is part of the computer but i dunno which is which
@billyruizguerra yeah, i dont know why but it took a few tries to fix mine. i wanna get windows 7, i hate windows vistas OS...im sure i would only have at least half of these problems if i buy like professional or something
Hi, I have two of these processes running at the same time in task manager. One is visible wihtout 'show all process from all users', with no user name. When I press show all I can see two. I have a winlogon.exe with no user name too.
@ITshowhoster hi my pc has vista home premium and my csrss.exe is using 6,044K of memory/cpu or whatever it uses. i have norton 360 4.0, avast anti-virus & malwarebytes. i scan with all of them regularly. is the size of usage correct for the file or not? if not, what should i do?
I really need help. I have windows 7 and 32win.swisyn virus. so I searched for: Csrss.exe and then comes up a file. can not delete it. think I got it off left4dead 2, which I loaded from the net. can not remove it with spybot. tested with nod32 and others, and they were not even on file. Do not know if it is virus

I thought I had the "csrss trojan" too. Tried ending the process and got that evil blue screen.
Did a full search for all hidden or non-hidden "csrss" files, and none of them have been modified in at least 2 years. So that writes out the trojan.
I've been randomly getting thrown into blue crash screens, even when just searching Wikipedia, so I thought the trojan was the culprit. Turns out my registry is all messed up. I cleaned it out, but I've still gotten the odd blue screen.
I cant access the internet.. I have two csrss.exe and winlogin.exe. How do i fix this problem..
Xspree 2 months ago
@Xspree That's normal. You probably have a virus on your computer that won't let you connect to the internet.
24681again 4 days ago
Oh and one more note. If Csrss.exe is NOT in the windows/system32 folder, then it is a virus.

@lordsyn86 The kernel half of Csrss.exe is win32k.sys.

Looking at other videos, Windows 7 will also have a blue screen if you do this.
