  • This is more rhythm than blues... otherwise the funk don't stank... and the funk always gotta stank. Soulive is the shit.

  • Does the Soulive version some justice. Fking great song/jam.

  • WHAT A TONE!

  • Fantastic old school trio. Schofield's better than ever these days, but I still keep coming back to this old stuff.

  • @charlienote I agree with both points. For me, part of the reason I always go back to his old stuff is cuz I love his tone back when he was using the Super Reverb and the Matchless and all that so much better than with the Two Rock now. That tone he used to have is hands down my favorite tone ever and modeling my tone after his tone concepts has single handedly helped me finally get to a place where I'm 100% happy with my tone.

  • The tragedy is that this guy isn't well known in Britain. It says a huge amount about how pathetic the culture's become over here that these talentless entities on the X-Factor and the like hog the limelight and peddle their mediocrity while someone so genuinely talented is largely unheard of!

  • Please play this at North Sea Jazz!!!

  • great sound and playing!

  • Actually the guitar is a Tokai ES-120 there take on a 335 check the headstock decal at 1:11 either way is sounds killer and Matt is truly a genius :)

  • An amazing talent. Please keep the vids coming.

  • That's one SWEET 335... played like it deserves to be played!

    THE expressive guitar EVER!!!

  • @Rickoholic believe it or not, thats a Tokai ES335

  • @Stratolespaul80 - a Tokai 335 that's been refretted & outfitted with Fralin Unbucker pickups.

  • Very cool...

  • Never heard a keys player swing a bass line like this. Amazing. Not many bass players could play this!

  • @vdeferens

I agree!!! I kept LOOKING for the bass player! (& I am one)

I've played with guys doing key-bass but it NEVER sounded like THAT!

The crazy part is that his regular organ parts are SO counter to the bass lines!

  • @vdeferens This song was originally done by the band Soulive, featuring Neal Evans on Hammond B3 and bass keys. You should check out his left hand on bass keys, it's incredible!

  • @dasfdasf3 Thanks for the tip, I will. :)

  • 7:00 it goes OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF THHHE HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKK

  • this is fusion.

  • Saw them at the Thunder Bay Blues Festival a few weeks ago and they were amazing - at first, I thought they were playing to a prerecorded bass track - I would really like to see them in an indoor concert venue.

  • I don't know what to say.. I could listen to this all day long!

  • Geeeeze Jonny Henderson on Bass and Organ is AWESOME!

  • 7:33 - 7:39 is probably my favourite part :)

  • @Xnimez Tasty SRV lick :)

  • Awesome, man. Just awesome.

  • Amazing!

Did anyone notice Chameleon at 6.34

  • @MattHurleyHimself

    YES! ...one of my faves!

  • @MattHurleyHimself Yeah... it's nice to hear Chameleon from anything not a pep band nowadays.

  • @fergusguitar those top line Tokais aren''t far off the gibson pricetag!

  • Allen Evans of Soulive is the original composer

  • who wrote the original ?

  • SO good to see British Blues still alive....Awesome shit!

  • Holy crab this is awesome ! :D

  • Whens the last time you've seen a trio like this lay it down so tight even your grandma wquld get up out of her rockin chair and cut a rug?...mine did...ha!

  • The keyboard player plays bass at the same time with a pedal board.I've seen them live, incredible.

  • yèèh lovely I like the style

    Ferry Fassaert (drums)

  • Great,great,great!

  • he's style is like JM

  • false.

  • i was thinkin more like scofield

  • the drummer is about to cream himself

  • is he not using that blackface super reverb at all thats sitting there? from :25 to :50 I hear that familiar super reverb tone! awesome sound!

  • i agree a real Bass player would really help, give that awesome drummer some one to be tight with, and free the keyboardist to play and not worry about a constant bass line

  • The line up of the Matt Schofield trio has actually changed, they now have a different drummer and a real bass player, Jonny is still on the keys.

  • Boo.....

    This is the line up.

  • then its not the matt schofield TRIO anymore is it, since there are four players.

  • You'll have to look at the footage again and count the players :-) The guy playing the organ is also playing the bass with his left hand! Pretty cool.

  • This is an absolutely brilliant rendition of this song, and I am a huge Soulive fan. Fucking awesome. Any other instrumental covers out there that they do?

  • SHALAP

  • YOU SHALAP

  • This is a great rendition, but must admit I am quite disappointed to see that the arrangment is exactly the same as the original Soulive version. It'd be nice to see them put their own spin on the tune.

  • This drummer is great.

    Good energy and feel.

  • Saw this guy the other week-just fantastic. That two rock amp is just amazing. Nice guy aswell ,got to meet him and he signed my CD :)

Definatly in the league of many iconic players.

  • wow his tone is absurd, anyone know if he uses two rock head and cab?

  • Yup,he does

  • they really get that fat but crystal clear tone. hey guess i've got to start saving now while I'm young. someday I'll hear my strat through one.

  • Yea,it's either that car or the amp,I might opt for the amp myself.lol Cheers

  • Excellent, but a real bassist would be nice. The dude on the ivories rules BTW.

  • your a dumb-dumb.

  • Fived & Faved... Great stuff!

  • the fact that NOBODY is dancing is sad. but you know what, it's not his fault. People don't dance to funk anymore...it's not the 60's or 70's and that's a sad, sad thing

  • Yo ... that's so untrue ...

I make a good living as a fulltime musician playing funk...

  • hes great but over playing a bit imo thats too bad :( they should slow down and relax on the groove moree

  • this guy shreds...the keys player is the one that makes it happen though. thousands of gtr players like scho but not many as skilled on the b3 as that dude

  • Yeah right thousands of players like Matt. You really can't see how good Matt is and that his style is really different from any other guitar player. Sure Jonny is fantastic too but no bad words about Matt.

  • come to New York and go out and listen to funk/fusion and you tell me. I live here and play music for a living as does everyone else in my family...guitar players are a dime and dozen and this guy is VERY talented, don't get me wrong but he's not blowing me away.

  • you love this guy way too much pal. let me also say that your use of the english language is really fantastic! great job to your family on raising you so well

  • you contradicted yourself by not keeping to yourself when what he said bothered you and the other guy sounds pretty arrogant. both of you just enjoy the music or shutup and dont watch it.

  • Wow, great attitude, dude. You've got some major anger issue to work out. Seriously.

  • where are the videos of you and your family?

  • Maybe not the US but I Matt at a small very small venue in Gravenhurst Ontario Canada on Jan 4th. He is truly amazing and that Two-Rock amp has such a amazing tone. I looked into buying one but Eeeeek 6 grand by the time your done with it.....

  • Saw them live on friday the 11th.

    Best concert ever.

  • In P60 right? I was there too! Fantastic show.

  • Yeah, cool :]

    It was awesome indeed!

Enjoyed the support act Big Blind too

  • Yes indeed they were amwsome too! I immidiately bought there CD 'Dressed to win'.

  • Same, bought it too, and had it signed by their guitarist

Bought Ear to the Ground by M'Scho Trio too, and had it signed by Matt and Evan ^^

    Awesome.

  • These guys are unbelievable. Anyone know if they're comin to the US soon?

  • I don't think so, I remember seeing that there are only touring Europe, but you may never know.

    Saw them last night!

  • go wan Ev!

so cool, you piss ice cubes...

  • I'm a full blown M' Scho fan!!

  • man his phrasing is second to none...

  • Hey Evan it's Jeansy! You internet celebrity rockstar. Sounds mighty fine. And I just got me a lefty cherry red version of that Tokai ES-120 a couple of days ago. Nice music guys

  • Jeansy mate. Rock on. You ever comin' over to the big city again?

    Ev.

  • saw him at chichester 'blues on the farm festival'

its so nice how his solo playing incoporates flourishes of jazz.

and that main solo, damn. so intense!

  • what is the song he's teasing from 6:35 - 6:48? is that scofield?

  • chameleon

  • good call. thanks

  • what kinda guitar hes playing?

  • A Tokai...

  • That's a smokin' Tokai that Schofield is playing and the way he is able to make it sound like a really good Tele then an ES 335 then to a Les Paul is unreal!

  • soulive cover

  • WOW. Truly brilliant. I've been to many Blues and Jazz gigs. In Oxford on Monday nights, go to the Bullingdon Arms on Cowley Rd. I saw Hamilton Loomis play there a few times - AWESOME - and he brought on a guest guitarist - Matt Schofield - even better if such a thing is possible. I saw The Matt Schofield Trio there last week and they brought on a guest guitarist - Denny Ilett. Seriously a privilage to see such shows.

  • those two rocks are so sweet

  • Hi Matt, what a fanatstic video!!! I really look forward to our gigs at the Greg's Bluesnight next Month. Cheers, Gregor

  • wow

  • now this is what music used to be like.............nowadays its just a joke really.

  • Top Band, Saw them at the Maryport Festival earlier this year and this band were one of the best bands there. 5/5 for these guys!!!
