@charlienote I agree with both points. For me, part of the reason I always go back to his old stuff is cuz I love his tone back when he was using the Super Reverb and the Matchless and all that so much better than with the Two Rock now. That tone he used to have is hands down my favorite tone ever and modeling my tone after his tone concepts has single handedly helped me finally get to a place where I'm 100% happy with my tone.
The tragedy is that this guy isn't well known in Britain. It says a huge amount about how pathetic the culture's become over here that these talentless entities on the X-Factor and the like hog the limelight and peddle their mediocrity while someone so genuinely talented is largely unheard of!
@vdeferens This song was originally done by the band Soulive, featuring Neal Evans on Hammond B3 and bass keys. You should check out his left hand on bass keys, it's incredible!
Saw them at the Thunder Bay Blues Festival a few weeks ago and they were amazing - at first, I thought they were playing to a prerecorded bass track - I would really like to see them in an indoor concert venue.
Whens the last time you've seen a trio like this lay it down so tight even your grandma wquld get up out of her rockin chair and cut a rug?...mine did...ha!
i agree a real Bass player would really help, give that awesome drummer some one to be tight with, and free the keyboardist to play and not worry about a constant bass line
You'll have to look at the footage again and count the players :-) The guy playing the organ is also playing the bass with his left hand! Pretty cool.
This is an absolutely brilliant rendition of this song, and I am a huge Soulive fan. Fucking awesome. Any other instrumental covers out there that they do?
This is a great rendition, but must admit I am quite disappointed to see that the arrangment is exactly the same as the original Soulive version. It'd be nice to see them put their own spin on the tune.
the fact that NOBODY is dancing is sad. but you know what, it's not his fault. People don't dance to funk anymore...it's not the 60's or 70's and that's a sad, sad thing
this guy shreds...the keys player is the one that makes it happen though. thousands of gtr players like scho but not many as skilled on the b3 as that dude
Yeah right thousands of players like Matt. You really can't see how good Matt is and that his style is really different from any other guitar player. Sure Jonny is fantastic too but no bad words about Matt.
come to New York and go out and listen to funk/fusion and you tell me. I live here and play music for a living as does everyone else in my family...guitar players are a dime and dozen and this guy is VERY talented, don't get me wrong but he's not blowing me away.

if hes not blowing you away then just fuck off. im a musician by trade but ill always have time for matt schofield. if i dont like something ill keep it to myself. i guess if i was a dickhead, id watch it then complain about it, and try then and brag about me and my family (?!). luckily im not a dickhead, but lets face it. i guess you are. fuckin freak. i will not hear a bad word against this guy!!
you love this guy way too much pal. let me also say that your use of the english language is really fantastic! great job to your family on raising you so well
you contradicted yourself by not keeping to yourself when what he said bothered you and the other guy sounds pretty arrogant. both of you just enjoy the music or shutup and dont watch it.
Maybe not the US but I Matt at a small very small venue in Gravenhurst Ontario Canada on Jan 4th. He is truly amazing and that Two-Rock amp has such a amazing tone. I looked into buying one but Eeeeek 6 grand by the time your done with it.....
Hey Evan it's Jeansy! You internet celebrity rockstar. Sounds mighty fine. And I just got me a lefty cherry red version of that Tokai ES-120 a couple of days ago. Nice music guys
That's a smokin' Tokai that Schofield is playing and the way he is able to make it sound like a really good Tele then an ES 335 then to a Les Paul is unreal!
WOW. Truly brilliant. I've been to many Blues and Jazz gigs. In Oxford on Monday nights, go to the Bullingdon Arms on Cowley Rd. I saw Hamilton Loomis play there a few times - AWESOME - and he brought on a guest guitarist - Matt Schofield - even better if such a thing is possible. I saw The Matt Schofield Trio there last week and they brought on a guest guitarist - Denny Ilett. Seriously a privilage to see such shows.
This is more rhythm than blues... otherwise the funk don't stank... and the funk always gotta stank. Soulive is the shit.

I agree!!! I kept LOOKING for the bass player! (& I am one)
I've played with guys doing key-bass but it NEVER sounded like THAT!
The crazy part is that his regular organ parts are SO counter to the bass lines!
