I'm in my second year of German class and I finally understand what this song means!!! Finally!!! I kind of liked the song better before I knew what it meant...
:[
Why don't you support faithful relationships, Rammstein?
@purplealex13 i wish i was hitler so i could understand what this song meant or a nazi which by the way did you know hitler had a band called hitler and the not-sees
i not completely sure but it says you got me, you asked me and i did not say anything, you want untill the death separates you and be faithful for all of your days
Jesus Christ. Why can't people just understand, that "du hast" means TWO things, depending on the spelling! Du hasst - you hate, Du hast - you have. Du hast mich - you have me, Du hasst mich - you hate me. You can NOT hear the difference when it is pronounced, only when you say "du hast mich gefragt" the meaning of the sentence is different. Then it means You have asked me.
@Suddirutten to settle the confusion, look at my lyrics and translation video. read the discription, that eplains EVERYTHING. you'll see its a double meaning. that should settle it. im not telling u to cuz i want views, im telling u too cuz i want people to understand.
@Suddirutten Du hast means you hate and you have, depends on how you use it. The du conjugation of haben and hassen are the same. Since hassen already has an s after taking off the sen adding an s with the t is unnecessary. I discussed this with my German teacher. When they wrote it they meant for it to be interpreted which ever way: You hate or you have. Sorry about my rant but your false statement irked me, mostly because you are yelling at other people for being wrong.
@th3sims3cycl0n3 So tell me why du hast (you hate) is spelled with a double s (you know, the letter that looks like a B) in German? I discussed this with MY German teacher. Yes, I agree that it is made to be interpreted both as du hast and du haBt. I did write that. What I don't understand is what I wrote wrong? What I've written is completely right. Ask your German teacher if anything I wrote is grammatically wrong, please. I'd like to hear it.
@Suddirutten If you are right and du hast means you have and du hasst (haBt, btw the B is called an s set and is takes the place of two consecutive s) then why when they recorded the english version of this song did they say "You hate" instead of "You have"? Hrm? Id like to hear you answer that one, smart ass. You don't always have to be right, and actually I did ask my german teacher, whom by the way actually LIVES in Germany now, and her first language is german and she called you an idiot.
@th3sims3cycl0n3 what does it matter, who cares if you are right, who cares if you are wrong, it will never matter. even if Suddirutten is wrong it still doesn't matter. im not hatting on you or him. im just saying (if you dont get it yet) it doesn't matter. why did you come here in the first place? To hate? or to listen to music?
IKR!!! first i wana say i agree completly with the comment but i also have to ask....who do you like best?! I KNOW, I KNOW!!! its difficult to only pick 1 but.....who you like best?!
keep on rockin and let rammstein stay in your heart!!! RAMMSTEIN HARDCOR!!!
Does it really matter what it translates to? Could we please just listen to it and comment on how awesome it is, without arguments? thank you. Cheers.
@mmasterrrrrrrrrrrrrr Normally, hast would be hate. When you add the last word, though, (mich) it becomes 'You have me" altogether. And You were right on the second one. Du hast mich degragt is you have asked me.
Okay people instead of arguing on what it means Why don't you just listen to the English version. God. Menschen statt streiten darüber, was es bedeutet, warum Sie nicht nur hören Sie die englische Version. Gott.
you are right about the lyrics, i asked my german teacher to translate it for me when i was in school. if you watch the official video for it, it kinda explains the story behind it. from what i can remember, she asks him to marry her and he just, as it were, says nothing...
The song is saying that 'you have me'-'du hast mich' yet 'you hate me'-'du hasst mich' It's an awesome use of German grammar (because the words sound the same) to convey the fact that though he gives this person everything, they still ignore him..
