Those people were acknowledging the beginning of the search for Bin Laden, as well as the end of it, giving credit to the presidents involved at both points in the process. He could have waited for the Afghanistan operation to be finished. OBL could have been captured and then if needed Iraq could have been done and enough troops used.
As it was, Bush effectively lost both wars and a new effort had to be undertaken to win. In Iraq, the US paid off a bunch of the warlords to get them to change sides.

As it was, Bush effectively lost the war in Afghanistan. Only by making a huge new effort can that mess be turned into anything that we don't have to call defeat. By sending way too few into Iraq they ended up getting many troops and huge numbers of civilians killed needlessly. The Iraq could have been done in about a year.

During the 08 campaign Obama specifically said that he would go after bin Laden in Pakistan if need be, and Republicans said he was wrong and slammed him for it, especially John McCain, who said he would definitely not go after him in Pakistan. If Republicans were in charge, bin Laden would still be alive today.

Since Bush was "the Decider", he was the only person alive capable of "deciding" that Bin Laden should die. After making that pronouncement, Dub-ya went back to watching football, then a round of golf, officially washing his hands of any further involvement, because that's what "deciders" do. All "decisions" made by "the Decider" are inviolate until the end of time.

He could have waited for the Afghanistan operation to be finished. OBL could have been captured and then if needed Iraq could have been done and enough troops used.
As it was, Bush effectively lost both wars and a new effort had to be undertaken to win. In Iraq, the US paid off a bunch of the warlords to get them to change sides.

They also show that Obama tasked the CIA with coming up with a plan to find him. The effort to find him was not actually done by Obama but the great bulk of it really happened under him. There was one key bit of information from KSM from shortly after he was caught. They got the name of a courier before the idiots tortured him and he shut up.

When Obama said during the campaign that he'd pursue and kill Osama bin Laden in Pakistan if need be, Republicans, including John McCain, threw a hissyfit and said they'd never go after him in Pakistan, because they're our ally. Even Hillary slammed him for it, and Palin couldn't find Pakistan on a map. Osama would still be alive and planning attacks on us under the protection of the Pakisani's if McCain had won.

@AttyCPA1 Actually doing Iraq may have been a good idea, if it had been done after finishing the job in Afghanistan and if the advice of Shinseki had been taken. As it was, Bush effectively lost the war in Afghanistan. Only by making a huge new effort can that mess be turned into anything that we don't have to call defeat. By sending way too few into Iraq they ended up getting many troops and huge numbers of civilians killed needlessly. The Iraq could have been done in about a year.

The yellow cake story was true. Even Joe Wilson's report lent credibility to the story because he reported that Iraq approached Niger about expanding commercial ties. What's the big export of Niger? Uranium and overwhelmingly so.

@MrClaydough Yes, a big part of the problem is, to get nominated in the republican party, you must hold or at least claim some counter factual positions. It, however, is not healthy for a nation to have two main parties where one requires its members to be insane. When you point out the fairly obvious fact that companies only hire employees when the current staff can't serve the customer base and then point out that for most businesses, the rich are not the customers, fingers go in ears.

@cage500 Bush specifically said that he wasn't concerned about bin Laden, and when he was boxed in at Tora Bora, he outsourced the job of sealing off his escape routes to Pakistan. During the 08 campaign Obama specifically said that he would go after bin Laden in Pakistan if need be, and Republicans said he was wrong and slammed him for it, especially John McCain, who said he would definitely not go after him in Pakistan. If Republicans were in charge, bin Laden would still be alive today.

GWB shutdown the CIA taskforce dedicated to finding Usama bin Laden. I think he did that in 2006. Republicans have a hard time overcoming the fact that history shows they're weak in terms of defense. Bush didn't even continue pursuing the nasties who suicide-bombed the USS Cole. At least Clinton launched 20 Tomahawk missiles instead of forgetting about it.

@suburbanblackchick Bush nor Obama never found bin Laden themselves, it was up to the CIA to get the info on him and his location, and it was up to the military to execute the mission. If Bush was in office, he would have done the same thing as Obama (giving the OK to the military to invade bin Laden's compound) if he was told by the CIA that they know where bin Laden is. Bush just wasn't in office at the right time, it takes a long time to gather all the intelligence about bin Laden.

After making that pronouncement, Dub-ya went back to watching football, then a round of golf, officially washing his hands of any further involvement, because that's what "deciders" do.
