I think you get points, for official hold down positions that pin the opponent on his back for over 3 seconds. (thats what we get in judo) I think there were no submissions or chokes because they're too experianced and just countered each other.
unfortunately the scoring was fair according to bjj rules... there are no points for guard, or even for replacing guard.... and knee on belly is worth 5, mount is worth 4, and side control is worth 3 (i believe) so the score, while not necessarily reminiscent of the fight, was technically correct.
the advantage points dont count in the normal point system in bjj... they are only used as a tie breaker in case the points for sweeps and position are the same.
The Brazillian innovation defined itself from Japanese jujitsu (spelled without the "i"), and is therefor called Brazillian Jiu Jitsu to highlight the differences in emphasis. This is similar to the Ryu system in shogunate Japan.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is actually derived from Kodokan and Kosen Judo. I actually believe that Helios Gracie was listed as a 3rd Dan Black Belt by the Kodokan, and was offered by Masahiko Kimura to come and instruct in Japan, but Helios turned him down.
Bullshit, has never been any kosen judo master outside japan, second Helio Gracie hi has non 3rd in Judo Kodokan, 3rd Kimura has never ask Helio Gracie to teach in Japan.
please do your home work better before, you claim somenthing.
if it's boring than dont watch it. this is one of the most effective martial art's on the planet, and whatever martial arts you do cannot compare with this style of fighting.
Wow... sorry, but this is a pretty boring martial art. Maybe 'cause it's because I have no idea how they score... but gosh, do they ever do anything? Or are they REALLY out of shape or something?
well beauch, i a couple years ago i'd have to agree with you, this is one of the most boring martial arts to watch. however, try it sometime, it'll change your opinion very quickly.
Ya if u don't know whats going on its probably kind of boring, cuz it just looks like people grabbing each other. Usually the match ends quick with a submission, but they get points for getting position and threating someone with a armlock. doesnt help the crowd is totaly silent the and comments are in japanese and the fighters stalled a lot.
some sexy jiu jitsu :-)

It's not Brazillian. (Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu is a Brazillian-"flavored" JAPANESE martial art [Jiu-Jitsu].)

22 - 0 for Watanabi... That's just proves all that is wrong about BJJ scoring.
Five5six 5 years ago
I couldn't agree with you more. There should be "aggression" or "attacking" points. Watanabi sandbagged that entire round.

Iminari is great. Very unpredictable.

it's not about the style, it's all about the fighter dude.

Bullshit. A fighter is only worth as much as his instructors, his training partners, his training regimen, and his style of fighting.

It's a chess match. Watch the same thing but without the gi, they go a hell of a lot faster.
