This is why you don't get in a conversation while landing an airplane! The two guys in pilot and co-pilot seats are having a grand conversation insteading paying attention to the airplane.
You say always fly with a checklist but here in the UK i was taught to use the checklist for all other stages except the landing, The landing part of the checklist is the only part that has to be remembered as there is just too much going in at that time for a single pilot PPL to do and read the checklist.
I know you said it's easily done but this just proves there is a time to just shut up and concentrate on what your doing, could have been a lot worse.

In all the noise of the ensuing raging argument, a retired US Admiral chimed in with something to the effect of: "I take no sides in the ongoing debate, but before my friends in the military get too full of themselves, I would remind them that there are four documented cases of the Navy launching aircraft with their wings still folded up."
How do we know if they landed like that because they COULDN'T drop the gear? Maybe it got jammed or something. Video starts a bit too late to figure out what was going on besides the warning beep
@toekneef1 If they were not able to get the gear down, they would have attempted a landing on the grass, and there would have been rescue crews waiting in case of fire.
It is a great mistake to think that pilots are generally intelligent, alert or competent. Airplanes have an incredible number of idiot lights and klaxons and the like... but it still doesn't keep the idiots from being idiots.
Dude you are an idiot. Many of the worlds best pilots have landed gear up. Its an accident. Can you say that you've never made any mistake at any time in your car? I've never landed gear up but I'm not going to pass judgement on others (at least until the day I lose my medical).

The mistake this pilot made was forget his downwind checks and final checks (Pitch-fine, gear-down and three greens, flaps to full). Maybe he's new to the aircraft, check his training records and check rides, who knows, hopefully doesn't do it again.

But also, the mistake this pilot made was to not pay proper attention to his aircraft handling. It was to fly unprofessionally, disregarding clear warnings in his immediate environment. The mistake he made was to break the number one rule: don't bend any metal.
The cockpit is not an appropriate place for excuses. When you strap in, you take full responsibility for all that occurs.
No, that's what checklists are for. And two more words: STERILE COCKPIT. No casual conversation during descent, approach and landing. At all. That is what doomed Colgan 3407: once you violate sterile cockpit, you lose situational awareness because of distraction. It makes the difference between a 'controlled crash' and a deadly one.
Well, i have to say that it was the expensive lesson. The plane has to replace the prop, overhaul the engine, fix the fuselage, etc. and recertify the air worthiness before back to service.
The approach was so steep, like they practicing the force landing. But no matter what's going on, NEVER forget the CHECKLISTS! especially landing. And never forget to confirm the "Two Whites, Two Reds, Three Greens, and Landing Light On" on short final.
The heads sets were not the problem. Their ear drums were picking up the sound ok its just their brain was not responding. Interesting lesson in human behavior! To me the approach looked unusual and I think it was this that absorbed 100% of the pilots and crews concentration, leaving no computing power to process the sound of the horn. Like running out of RAM or short term memory It does not take all that much to induce a mistake, particularly when flying and under pressure
Maybe the guy was used to flying a non RG cessna.. Also I wonder, is the annunciator audio fed to the headsets? If not, I reckon it'd be a bit less obnoxious with those cans over your ears.
My time with headsets say they do very little to quiet the outside noise...primary function is just so you can hear other people...that was so damn loud there is no way he could not have heard it, unless he has some AC/DC blasting through his headphones...
Oh man. I've never come close to forgetting to put the gear down, but I've landed and realized I didn't remember doing it. I would sure feel like a dumbass but I'll never call anyone one because of this. It is so easy to focus on one problem and not notice a new one.
at least there didn't wear out the brakes on that landing #positive thinking
